I'm making a mad dash back home to California to stay away from the snow, but I've got to get a couple rides in first.
Today I'm hitting Phil's World in Cortez, Colorado, about 45 minutes outside of Durango. I've heard of this place for a long, long time. It's definitely a flat and pedaly place, but there were some really fun surprises along the way! I'll have to get back to Durango and ride the tough stuff in the summer.

Glad you liked it. Phil's World is my favorite trail system.
Nice!
Don't get bogged down worrying if your fast or slow Brian it's a dark place just ride and enjoy it as it supposed to be
Thanks Paul!
Gotta nominate BKXC for CZcams mountain biker of the year. Not for making any big changes, but for regularly cranking out the same content we all love and enjoy: riding the best trails in the world. Love it and can't wait for another year of riding and adventures!
Thanks so much, glad you're digging it!!
My favorite trail! So cool to see you out there and watch the Phil's video.
That's great!
BKXC in the land of the Tomac’s! Lots of good bits in the remote part of the state!
Learned a bunch about that area from this podcast, too! www.paysonmcelveen.com/podcast/episode/49796dd3/ned-overend-and-john-tomac-mountain-bike-icons
Eli #3's my fave!
I'm not much of a commenter but I just gotta say, I love these videos Brian. Your attitude, realism, so chill and so happy. All of it makes a great video. Keep it up.
I appreciate you leaving the comment! Thanks Bryce
Loved all those rollers and omg those climbs 🤩 can't wait to see you riding back there Brian!
Pretty cool place!
Just did this two days ago. Went from 1000 elevation without acclimating and made the 14 miles in 93 degree heat seem like 20. But it's my favorite trail ever. My brother lives in Durango, and we try to hit it up whenever I'm in town. However, i'm on a hard tail with flats, so it's always just entertaining enough to run a loop, hah!
Stoked to see you back in my home! Enjoy the rockies :D
Sweet! Thanks dude
Thanks for another awesome ride Brian! Long may you ride brutha🤙. Best of the season and Happy holidays to you and yours!✌😻🚵
Thanks so much Kevin!
“Whoop is a fine sponsor of the channel, and I’m so happy to have them” *heart rate spikes*
Interesting
Very cool indeed...love the flow and the techie bits.
Yep, a good combo!
Minor league catcher, major league rider!
Big time!!
That looked like some sweet trails. A good mix of technical challenges (up and down) and fun rollers.
Big time!
Man Brian!! This channel really needs so much more love!! You make such great content and work so hard!!
Thanks so much Blake!
Funny Frisco RoughRiders mention at the beginning. That’s my home team.
Whoop whoop. Keep flowing mate, be the flow. 🤙🏻
Thanks dude!
Such nice trails you're riding today. Enjoyed to watch the edit dude...
Thanks!
Wooow!!! Thanks for sharing the Ride at Phils World!!! That place just made the Bucket List!!!
Sweet!!
Looks like a fun rollercoaster! Then some good tech
It had a bit of everything!
I've ridden in a lot of states and many places , Phil's World is my favorite !
Nice to finally see this network, albeit through your lens. First read about this place in one of my first few I ssues of Dirt Rag Mag some 15 years ago, I think.
Yes! It's something I've always heard of as well.
Hope you enjoy your New Van life in the New year 😜👌 great trails Brian and nice weather there, her in Wales piss it's down lol 😄 ☔🚴 👌
Thanks bud!!
Looks like a sick trail! Flow and some tech.
Definitely a good mix!
Hey Brian...all your videos are life changing lessons for me n very inspiring....wanna ride but have no idea where n how to start..but hoping to meet u one day😊
Glad to hear you dig the vids! First thing is to know if you have a local mountain bike scene. Local bike shops will often do "no drop" rides for beginner folks. Head to a local bike shop and tell them that you're a beginner and don't know where to start. There's probably a local bike club as well, and you could find them on Facebook or wherever they have a presence and also ask them for help as a beginner. Bike clubs are great places because people have used gear that you can utilize instead of spending a ton of money to get started.
Another great video. Really enjoyed the Spain series. Greetings from a cold and rainy Ireland.
Thanks John!
I remember riding this trial back in the 2000's, before it became famous❤️👍👌
So much for taking it easy for a recovery day, sweet trail!
Hahaha yep
That trail deserves a HARDtail!!
Haha yes!
Those trails look like a lot of fun!
Big time!
I love this trail, super cool !!!
It was a good one!
YES! I hit this every time on the way home from Moab.
Nice!
Wow that trail looks so fun!
It was a good one!
Looks soooo good!!
It was sweet!
Looked like a blast.
It was!
This trail really looks like a lot fun!!
It's a great one!
Phils is awesome! Glad I live close ;)
Looks like fun!
Big time!
Phil's World is SOOOOOOO fun! I'm glad you made a video for it! This trail is a hidden gem! Rib cage is amazing! Phil's world is right in between Moab and Durango so it doesn't get enough love. I wish you had more time... when you come back that way you need to ride White Mesa just Northwest of Albuquerque!
PW is in my top 10.
Me too! I used to go back and forth between ABQ and SLC due to work and family. This was always a stop on the way!
@@gnarlee4250 I hear you, I discovered pw this spring riding up and down COs western slope. I will now do pw annually.
Thanks Lee, much appreciated!!
awesome trail!!
Thanks bud!
Don't know who Phil is, but I like his vision! That notch at the 11:20 mark was cool! The rocky parts of that trail looked amazing, and it had major variety with the flow parts as well. Great riding as always, and I know how much those technical climbs take out of you. A mile of that is like 5 miles of flow trail, or maybe even more, so no surprise you were sweating! Thanks again for a great video recap, and that's a trail I would absolutely love to ride at some point on a trip out west. OH...and I'M SHOCkED that you didn't see an Armadillo riding here in Arkansas. Interesting that armadillos didn't show up in Arkansas at all until the late 60's, and then it was the mid 80's before they made it to central Arkansas, and then they weren't here in NWA until the late 90's. They just keep moving a little further north all the time! The reason I'm surprised you didn't see one is that they aren't very skittish. They pretty much ignore their surroundings because they feel protected with their armor. You DO NOT want to hit one on your MTB. It's like hitting a rock, and we've had a few locals hit them on the trails.
The Frisco Roughriders are my local team, wild!
That's great!
Mine too. Why didn't Alex coax Brian into coming to ride the Frisco NW trail instead :) I joke, but it's only a mile from my house and it's 1000X better than road riding, so I can't complain.
I rode Phil's World in July, it was a fun trail and a good mix of everything! I'll definitely go back next time I'm in DRO.
Nice!
Phil's world is what got me into mtb
Awesome!
Yo! Wish I knew you were coming this way! Ive been a Telluride local and now live in Cortez, Phils World Rocks! Sorry to have missed you!
Nice, I've gotta see what Telluride has to offer!
@@bkxc Gotta ride the Prospect trail, lung busting climb up to around 12,000ft then rippin downhill and for craziness do the Wasatch connector trail, climb 2000 then very exposed techy almost 4000ft down hill. Have to be later next summer though!
@@ARsoundsofstillness Agreed, great trails you mentioned here no doubt. Posted a Wasatch trail ride a time back but want to do the Prospect next season. Ride on...
no dude - from Durango ...you drove WEST!
If and when you do come back to the Cortez/Durango area, please have a meet up! I would love to meet you! I'm glad you loved Phil's World-- definitely one of my favorites :)
Hope I can get back there during the summer!!
Oofta, sounds like the creak is back with a vengeance! Beautiful trails, and give yourself some credit, you mashed those climbs, even at 7k ft!!
Just the seat!!
That is probably the best part of Colorado, the San Juans are special even by Colorado standards. Should go back there in summer and hit the mountain trails and Telluride.
Most definitely!
Living the dream man, living the dream.Awesome.
Thanks dude!
Sick trail that’s the stuff I would love to ride
Nice!
Great video I love your stuff wish me luck on finals.
Ps: watching your vid instead of studying.
Hahahaha
That’s my bro
Congrats on the new van!! Hit up New Mexico, SoCal is my home but New Mexico is my favorite place to ride,(helps my brother lives in Silver City) some of the best riding I have ever ridden! And I have the Grudge and Rocky Peak trails to ride every day if I want! Love the channel keep up the amazing content!!

@@bkxc will do for sure!
C'mon Brian! You can camp in the cold... you can do it!
Haha, zero interest!
Was there in september, loved that spot.
Nice!
Fuckin, Phil's world is so dope yo I love ledges loop you're vibin

Thanks Nico!! Good to see you again. Hope you're doing well too!
@@bkxc yeah bro, had been busy with two kids. Lol now its time to go back, subscribing again to patreon my brother!!!
Those trails look just my speed , not to chunky . Another great one thanks !
Yep, they were pretty cool!
nice trail, love it.
Sweet!
Sweet trails
Most definitely!
If you ever go to Utah again try wanes world in cache valley(northern Utah) it's an amazing flow trail with amazing scenery and lots of fun to ride.
Nice, never heard of it!
I do night rides thru Tillie Fowler which is a short 2.5 loop local trail to me in Jacksonville FL and we come across no less then 5 armadillos on our night rides.
Haha that's so cool
I only ever heard about flowy flow there... but this bit of jank makes me want to get down to Phil's World 🤔🤘🏼
Yep, just jank enough!!
Never dissapointed!
Thanks!!
keep pushing Brian
Thanks Mikieson!
The GoPro does not do the Rib Cage justice. It’s so much steeper up and down. The rib cage is where I learned my love for ripping hard and fast.
Love it!
Thanks!
BKXC thanks my uncle always watch your videos on Family TV so I don't have no choice but to love you also Hahahaha
Really cool vid. When ur on those flow trials with the fun drops, wat color degree r those types of trials
Those were blue trails
You're fitness will always hold you back, no matter how fit you are. As someone once said "it never gets easier, you just get faster".
Most definitely!~
Wow nice place , like the place where I'm trail🚴
The brake on the 11:27 seg was nice ...... is like the bike can not stop just slide...... nice trail is prety amazing....!! You need to add on you equipment the Skydio2 .... this drone is amazing... can follow you and you do not need to drive... take a look..
Nice
My friend did some of the trail building here.
Hey Brian, great video. I had a bike question for you. Which do you like better the ripmo or rallon and why?
not very far, and prolly worth the drive from Phx. it's on my radar. looks rad.
Home of the Tomacs
Yup!
I liked that trail. Not too technical and not all downhill!
Yep, a good medium!
4 corner love
Yeah!
Man I see armadillos allllllll the time at Boyette over here in Tampa Florida. Time for a return trip to check that box.
Haha that's great!
Just subd to you last week, love your vids keep up the good work!!! Huge request... anyway you can put things you use in your video discription? example which gopro your using? Thank you
Welcome! I used to and nobody really ever read it, so I gave up. Gopro Hero4 + Karma grip. There ya go!
Consistency, I totally get the struggle. I go for a race or a big trip and come back and do nothing for a week or two. If only I could carry on from the high of a big ride...
Yes!
Intense
Have you done PBR and the the Ribbon Trail in Fruita? I'm dieing to do those trails and would love to see your videos of it.
Don't remember if I did PBR at 18 Road, but if I did the video is here: drive.google.com/open?id=1WkUhuC4cYAPg5iPMfYsKxgaF40Qr_hNy&usp=sharing
You need to come ride BlackRock (brmba) in Oregon!
Nice!
with the OneUp chain breaker, it works better if you loosen the bolt holding the chainbreaker to plastic handle, rotate it 90 degrees and re tighten the bolt, adds a bit more leverage and a lil less funk to use, but it's still a last resort version of the tool.
Interesting!
Damn, last time I went to that path. Is that I actually almost fell off the cliff last time. I crash couple of time, man I ca. That path is a challenger💙💙💙
Holy moly!
@@bkxc I know but, lucky my friend catch in time
So good
Thanks!
Your enthusiasm for riding is awesome.
I was thinking the other day...have you ever looked at overlaying your speed on the riding portions-I think the action cameras make the hard stuff look easy and the easy stuff look hard sometimes. Knowing how fast you are hitting some of these trails would be nice context
Thought about it for sure, but the way I chop up my videos it doesn't make much sense. Others have done it and it's kinda cool, but kinda distracting.
It would be distracting if you did it all the time but on selected sections it would be great to see
You going to spend the winter riding the southwest where it is warm?
Very nice
Thanks!
Nice video
Thanks
Sick🤙🤙
Yup!!
Party on Brian!
Yahooo!
Hi Brian,BKXC, please meet Ned Overend in Durango, he was the first UCI mtb world champion in history in 1990
he is riding on a very high level till today, he is 62 jears old :) THE LEGEND........
Maybe I'll meet him someday! Didn't happen this time.
Would be awesome if you came through El Paso ! We have some proper chunk here lol
Eventually!!
Phil's World rocks! I'm a basic intermediate level MTBer and there I can feel like a "real shredder"!
PS: It's actually 45 miles WEST (not east) of Durango.
PSS: Let us C-Springs folks know next time you're this way!!
PSSS: Check out Osprey HQ while in Cortez near Phil's World.
Nice!!
hi there, after watching your daily videos and got myself motivated to Record videos. here i am asking you for some guide, like how to Record with Hero 8 and which tool should i use for color correction? Thanks
The Loam Ranger has a good how-to videos about GoPro: czcams.com/video/2YEePcJZcFI/video.html
I tell you I wouldn't have guessed this is Colorado. Looks so different from the Denver area.
So much variety in CO!
Minus the altitiude and the lack of oxygen looks like a great trail.
The dappled sun is a killer tho. 🤙🤙
Haha yep, hard to see!
