In today's video, I'm going to show you the process of how I built this Super Cute, Super Modern Pinterest worthy fence with a gate and wood storage.
It's a Fairly long repetitive process but it's simple and very very effective.
A couple of important things that you do not want to miss in this build are: When setting fence posts you need to make sure that the hole is dug 3x the with of a post and 1/3 - 1/2 of the post length deep. this is needed to give the post adequate long-lasting support.
Secondly, each hole took at least 3 bags of concrete each so bears that in mind when purchasing.
Finally, the materials I used for the fence are:
The posts are 6" x 6" wide 10' long pressure-treated fir
The slats are 1" x 6" x 10' tight knot rough cedar which I ripped down to 1 1/4" strips on my table saw.

Looks good but you fixed the gate on the wrong side the bracing is supposed to hold the gate upright against downward forces . Other than that lovely looking work

The black stain with the natural gives a nice chic (Modern) look. I would add solar recessed lighting ground up..would also help with your parking at night. I found your channel looking for "Privacy screening".

Looks great. I looked into some proper 1x cedar and it's surprisingly expensive ($3.20 to $3.50 per foot for 1x6 in SoCal) compared to the cheap 5/8" stuff at the home center. There are tropical hardwoods that costs less.
cedar is easily available here in BC Canada. If I had the choice and budget I would always go with a tropical hardwood.

12:52 I would have used composite decking for the floor of the wood shed. All you need is one or two 16 foot lengths cut down to size, so it wouldn't be very expensive. The best part is that they would never rot away like the strips of plywood will. I really liked the ceder strips you made for the privacy fence. That was a really nice touch. BTW, I am new to your channel and have subscribed as well.

Awesome fence and shed. I think you say its 2.5 ft deep but what is the width of the bottom frame on the decks? Also what is the height of your 4 x 4s for the corners of the shed?

Thank you, Basically I made a door a while back with a similar design. As I was making it I was thinking it would look cool as a gate or a fence. It turned out better than I had thought it would.

Q-if I use the regular fence post, would regular Translucent stain will give same effect or should I buy semi-satin to stain? Benjamin has several types, Translucent, semi-satin, satin...I love the fence color..Thanks
Hmmm I think your best bet would be to get the samples and try that first. My guess would to go the next step up with some added colour.
Before I start the fence, I’m going to have to wait for my two year old to turn three.

Hey yes I used Benjamin Moores "Arborcoat" Natural stain in translucent. works great with cedar.
applying stain prior to the build would be so much easier. AND would save you time.
So sad that every store within driving distance is out of this cedar supply. That looks so clean!
Agreed, unfortunately I was unable to get the stain due to shortage at the time I needed it so I had no choice to stain after the fact, but ye I agree

Looks great. I thinking of copying you but debating whether to increase the gap a little. Maybe a 1/2" to 3/4" instead of 3/8". I think a little more gap would make each piece of wood stand out a little better instead of being more of a solid wall. You like the 3/8"?
My 2 cents, 1/2 gap will nice and modern. And widen the strips from 1 1/4 wide to 1 1/2 wide boards

It’s Benjamin Moore arbour coat in natural. If your bench is weathered maybe try the same but in cedar. It has a little bit more colour. Both are available in samples

Hey would you be able to add the cost?
Roughly $700 CAD for the cedar and 2-300$ cad for the fence posts and concrete.
One of concrete blocks is not exactly at corner. Why is this?
It’s because of the trees root was sticking up from the ground refraining me to get the block level. So I just moved it it slightly, as it wasn’t carrying too much weight I wasn’t too concerned
1/3rd of the height is overkill, 8ft post 18-24” is “code” this design is very cool tho
You may have to take the frost line into consideration. Depending on where you live, that could mean digging as deep as 48". An auger is highly recommended.

No I purchased the cedar from a local saw mill, works out cheaper and they have a better selection than big box stores.

Great video, turned really nice. The only thing in wonder is, why north americans are mostly, at least on youtube, setting the wood posts directly into concrete? Thanks buddy, I’ve never seen those before but there a great idea. Here and back when I was in the Uk it always has seem the norm to set them into concrete. At least in soft ground anyway.
