What Keeps You Skiing? For Me, It's Childhood Memories. Nostalgia.

We all have reasons that we began skiing or snowboarding. Perhaps it was a family activity growing up. Maybe we went for the first time with friends in high school. Or perhaps we got into a relationship with someone who introduced it to us. Whatever the introduction, we love it.
My father is from India and my mother is from Canada. Ironically, he's the one who introduced her to skiing. Sure, like a stereotypical Canadian, she ice skated. In fact, she played hockey with the boys rather than figure skate. But it wasn't until she met my dad that she put on a pair of skis. And when they had my sister and me, they took us on an annual family ski trip.
I loved those trips more than any other vacation. The excitement of boarding a plane to fly across the country rather than driving in a car several hours to a beach. The snow and mountains were more magical to me than a family trip to explore a new city. And the physical sensations, flying through the air on a pair of skis as the sun beat down. As an adult, I realize that a main part of the reason I love skiing is all of the memories with my family. It takes me back and connects me to them and my childhood. So I ski.

I grew up in a tropical country so haven't seen snow for 20 years of my life. Living in Seattle for 10 years, tried skiing once when we moved, but my wife never liked it so we stopped. Then I picked up skiing in again 2020 spring during pandemic and introduced skiing to my daughter in next season when she was 4 yrs old (she took lessons after that). She is my best ski buddy for the last two years and this is such a great bonding time for us! One day we skiied from 10am to 8pm! She loves the activity and your story gives me a hope that she will cherish these memories :)

Love this! 4 is a great age to start and I'm 100% sure that she'll have similar memories about all of the time she spent with you doing it, and the same sense of connection every time she goes skiing as an adult.

I didn't start snowboarding until I was 35 back in 2009.I do it because when up the peaks all the problems in my life disappear.It's just me and the mountain 🏔❤
