- In honor of Phil winning his 17th #wsop Bracelet, we revisit this EPIC comeback where Phil was down to just 2.5 Big Blinds before channeling what he calls "White Magic" to help mount a massive run against poker-savant, Dan "JungleMan" Cates in his pursuit of $200,000 and the King of the Hill Belt.

Phil took his soul with that bluff
The fold made absolutely no sense whatsoever. No straights or flushes were rivered and Hellmuth only wins with better trips+. And if he's wrong he's still very, very much in it at that point. It's downright shocking that Cates didn't make that call there.
@@nihilozero The river put a 3rd diamond on the board. Still an odd fold, given the insane pot odds.
@@nihilozero diamonds flush got there, he beats only bluffs with his trips, it's basically A high
@@sdmit2000 yes, but only because of ICM properties. In cash that is an insane fold.
17 and counting. Phil is the goat.
And it's not even close. GOAT
Poker tournament GOAT. God bless this incredibly talented man-child.
@@CMichael2276 awe somebody is jealous... cute.
Trip 10s heads up fold with massive chip lead? I'm no pro but that's an insta call.
Raise $19k. River comes. Bet $9k fold??????
horrendous fold i know.
Folds for 10k with trips heads up 😂😂😂😂😂 man that's poor
That's why Jungleman is where he is in the game
the possible hands Phil could have had were all weaker or draws yeh he wasn't thinking it out.
See? Phil's a nice, personable guy...when he wins.
Phil can still play well against jungle man. He's a good heads up player.
The most difficult thing to overcome is losing a won game. That was brutal and will haunt him for the rest of his life.
Harrowing
Haunt him? Um, no. He might not nap well the next day, but that’s about it.
You got to admit it was dumb
I don't care what anyone says about Phil's play here. He played very good heads up here.
I'm glad to see PH doing so well this year, again.
Maybe Hellmuth actually performs a form of magic. He got his opponent to fold trips. Only cost 10k to win a 60k pot and end the game.
Comments don't know Jungleman. This dude was an online crusher and high stakes crusher for years. One of the legends of the game. Why he folded the trip 10's is confusing and can only be explained to a gut read that was way off. But I've noticed that it takes good players to make crazy folds that people don't understand. So, you would have to ask him. But he could outplay most of you, no doubt.
Well said.
doesn't matter. still a horrendous fold getting 6-1 on the river and with a chip lead
Defending one of the worst folds in poker history lmao
@@chumoss2215 I've seen so many worse, folds. Do you even play the game? Heads up rules are 4d chess. Get over yourself.
Chatpros always know best mate
3:39 they should have added the "a few moments later" accent voice from the memes
Haha yes!
Jungle had trips. Also I enjoyed the Pace salsa commercial refrence.
Is Jungleman not considered a top heads ups player? But yet look what Phil did to him, he absolutely crushed him judging by this video.
it is idiotic to call with KQo against the shove. We all know phil would only do that with some Ax. the polarized part of his range would either slow play, or lose as few chips as possible as 3:1 chip leader.
@@derekluna7700it’s different heads up tho, K Q is a strong hand to call with heads up
@@Charlton2010 we aren’t talking GTO land are we. We are talking 2 humans and their play styles which deviate from GTO as well as emotions involved from previous hands. He knows he’s behind just an emotional call. And funny thing is you reverse the roles and I bet Phil doesn’t call shove with a weak ace. So perhaps it would have been fine if betting was reversed
What a blunder! If you don´t push trips on the turn when Phil has almost nothing behind then only because you think he is drawing DEAD and you obviously will call ANY river.
"Phil asking what his biggest regret was tonight "😅😅😂😂😂
Wow, the kind of play that you won't forget.
You have to admit that Phil is a very gracious winner and never rubs it in to his opponent. Terrible loser, but good winner.
I prefer someone who is a bad loser over a bad winner. Losing sucks, we all feel bad when we lose, Im fine with someone letting off some steam, its usually entertaining. But, when you win, have some grace, say nice hand and collect your chips.
Unbelievable! You see that!? He folded with trip 10s hunny!!
He folded 10 trips on that board?!…that dude is a professional? Unbelievable
One of the craziest reads of all time. Hard to believe.
He probably was convinced he had the flush.
@@20eyesmisfit maybe but why would phil raise the turn with the draw?
Cates has two WSOP bracelets, both won against very small fields. He is rarely mentioned as a star of the game. He seems to be something of a Stu Ungar type, very erratic.
@@Pokernight Not sure, maybe to represent two pair with a flush draw. Or a total blowup lol
The check raise on the turn convinced Cates Hellmuth had a bigger ten. He didn't shove on the turn, even though that meant he had less to shove with on the river. It looked like Hellmuth was trying to make it so he had to call.
Should have been a snap call from cates. Ridiculous to lay that down, especially with a huge lead like that. What was there to lose as opposed to what there was to win. Seriously, what did he think Phil has, A 10?
He is beat by any AdXd, and any suited diamonds, he's also beat by pretty much any ten, as his kicker sucks, and he is losing to pocket 2s, 3s and 9s. All of which would have plausibly taken the exact line Phil took. That's a whole lot of hands he's losing to and he is only beating 1 pair hands and bluffs.
It's actually a pretty reasonable lay down.
@@bipolarminddroppings ok, and there's already 60k in the pot and you don't call 9k more to potentially end it? With a very nice hand?? With 140k chips in reserve if you're beat??? Yikes.
lol that was so awesome. The ONE time that Jungleman went on "Hunch" instead of math.. And he might regret it for years.. OH THE EGO HIT.. hahaha
Trip 10’s I’m all in! WTF. The was Phil snatched those chips told you he had nothing!
Yeah.. Phil is different, while jungle man is just.. indifferent.
The check after the flop. Wow. Smooth.
Chip and a chair 💯
I love Phil but what the hell was Jungleman thinking with that trip tens hand? I didnt see anything Phil could have had to beat a set.
Probably thinking flush or a better ten
To be fair to Dan Cates there is almost no hand Phil has that plays like this that he beats. I genuinely believe when he called the turn raise he was folding the river unless he filled up. If PH has 2 pair, he just calls turn, even with AA.
Also, The one 2 pair hand he would likely raise the turn with is 99.
he can have 2 diamonds ya know.
Possible flush scared him.😂
What a weird fold....
Was this a heads up tourny?
No
Yes
Can anyone explain the trip 10s fold to me? Was the guy just nervous? I don't know enough about poker yet.
He was playing to hit quads and when he didn't hit the one outer he felt like a loser.
@@sanjeevsaini3192 LMAO
Jungleman thinks Phil doesn't have enough turn raises as a pure bluff. Diamonds came in, so Phil can have a flush or a couple of boats, for him to have a bluff by the river he needs to have raised the turn with air, or a hand like the one he has which blocks combos of Tx but is still air. Jungleman folds because for it to be a winning call, Phil has to have *too many* bluffs in this spot (if he has just the right amount then jungleman is indifferent) and he thinks Phil has too few, or is a nit basically.
@@hymnofashes Nice! thanks. Jungleman goes absolutely WAXXED there.
Its hardly a bluff when someone has that few chips and because the diamond hit the river dan put him on a flush. Thats also why he didnt go all in on the turn because phill wouldnt fold a draw with the s.p.r. so he called looking for a diamondless river. Phills all in was really advanced. He knew dan was good enough player to fold trips. Also dan has a lot of nothing in that spot most of the time.
Would have been 100 times better if you hadn't had the spoiler at the beginning of the video.
It’s about the journey.
@@Pokernight and the algorithm :-) am i right !!!!!!
Stupid fold on trip tens was his demise, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jungle owes money to Phil, the rest is pretty self explanatory
had to have misread his cards
Would someone pls explain how, i mean how, trip 10s cld have lost? What was phil representing?
He was repping a better 10 on the turn and continued with that by the all in on the river.
@@Eadweard76 hi Edward thanks for your patience. The dude had 2 tens in his hand, with one on the board for trips. Even if Phil had a ten in his hand, that only gives him a pair vs trips. Thanks again
@@Eadweard76Or flush
That is the easiest call ever for 10k chips. Almost looks staged - like Phil paid him off to lose so he could get the bracelet
If you think about it for more than 3 seconds, you will realise Cates is losing to any suited diamond, pocket 2s,3s and 9s and is losing to pretty much any ten except T4 (which Hellmuth wouldn't be playing). And all of those hands would have taken a line like Phil's.
All he beats is 1 pair and bluffs.
There is a reason Cates is playing for millions and you are a losing player at micro stakes.
@@bipolarminddroppingssounds like someone is projecting…..
@@bipolarminddroppings LMAO there is NO way to defend that fold, he had to put in 10k in a 50k pot. The worst fold I've ever seen.
after seeing this - he bought this bracelet LOL
Lol c’mon
@@Pokernight I just dont want to believe jungleman folded that set.
@@gislo he didn’t fold a set :P
@@Pokernight pretty sure u know what i meant...
Such a stupid move. It was only $9900 more to call with trip 10s and 97% of the chips. Unreal.
so if phill helmuth has the flush he double up ...
@@gomriria2197he pretty much did double up hahaha
This is a textbook example of collusion and fixing the match
Lol if that were a possibility, why would they choose the most unexplainable moment to “collude”?
WTF. Danny 😮 😮 😮 😂 😂 😂
I don't care how well PH plays. When I see him all I think is, "there's the biggest asshole in the history of poker."
probably figure full house
No probably thought he made the flush at the end.
How did he not call with trips and make the final table.
Did Jungle misread his hand?
“Kind of a read I have on him. Really enjoys three of a kind. Also likes flops” - how much coke did the commentator have?
cmonnnnn this fold is patetic
Jungle must have put him on 22 or 33.
NICE
That's what happens when you envoke Jesus. Jungle man got what he deserves!!!
Still the worst fold in the history of poker
folding trip tens...
Wow
What a horrible play lmao. He got what he deserved. That was comedy
Sometimes you get lost in the leveling...and just get leveled. If you've never done this then you haven't played enough poker. Besides this kind of misstep, there's also the misread of the cards every so often. Neither of these blunders are gawk-worthy. It's endemic to human poker. IOW, no one plays a lot of poker all robotic like.
R U KIDDING? EVEN A DONKEY COULDVE READ THAT & KNOWN HELMUTH WAS BLUFFING!! PLUS HIS TELL IS HE PUTS HIS FINGERS TO HIS MOUTH!!🤣 NO WAY PHIL COULD BEAT ME HEADS UP !! NO DAMN WAY!!
nonsense- he just didnt read the board- he didnt have the ultimate nuts like a royal flush but he had the board nuts- phil could not possibly beat him so- yeah bad fold
GG
Was Cates drunk?
Worst fold of all time
Nothing beats commentators getting their ass handed to them after being smug and pretending to know anything
Well, when you are playing against a coward its easy to do. There is no way on Earth you fold trips in a heads up game with that kind of board out there.
Getting 6 to 1 with a set and he folds? He deserves to lose.
Got to be the worst fold this year by anybody on earth, its such a no brainer when it was for 1/14th of his stack.
100% BS
10k?
Against a bad player, easy win!!
Jungle charged hellmuth $1mil to throw this game. Feeling bad for him he agreed to dress up as a lion for him at wsop to sweeten the pot. Not one fuck was given in the entire 10,000+ field.
Phil must really like that belt
this video is OLD......
