When word came down that a new Propain Tyee was in the pipeline, we began to wonder what exactly it would look like, what improvements would be made, and how much more we’d like it than the outgoing version. And if you’re wondering how much we liked that last version, check out the review here. Now, as much as we liked the last Tyee, demand from athletes, consumers and of course the competitive nature from within Propain’s design team meant that an evolution was inevitable. With some clever updates and modifications to the new Tyee, Propain’s flagship enduro bike line should have aggressive riders of all budgets looking hard. With models starting from $2,999, a choice of alloy or carbon frames with any combination of 29” and 27.5” wheels, plus a custom bike builder to fine tune the spec, the new Propain Tyee offers a lot of options so there will surely be a configuration to please just about every rider. In this Dissected feature we’ll dive into the details of what Propain have changed, why they changed it, and of course, hit the trails with some of Propain’s North American staff to see just how it performs where it matters most.

I'm just glad they've kept ports on the side so you don't have to live with the stupid headset cable routing if you don't want too !!

@@hambo76 If these people you talk about want to maintain their own bikes, then either learn how to work on the system or don’t buy the bike. Pretty simple. Im assuming the majority of the one’s complaining are seeing this as becoming standardized? Maybe those ones might eventually find a new hobby, if this is so ludacris haha.
I have had a propain rage 10 from 2011, and the rage AL from 2019 and my son has the rage carbon from 2022. For downhill, rage all the way. Love the propain bikes.

I recently demoed the Tyee for three shuttle runs at this trail network. I was really impressed. Great blend of stability and agility. The suspension was so smooth. Great traction but still poppy enough to boost off features when I wanted to. I also noticed how quiet it rode. I’m 180 pounds and the wheels felt really nice for me. I could tell they were more compliant which personally worked for me.

What is your height and what size was bike?
The tucked away brake is clever, but is it easy to work on while (inevitably) realignment?

Rob, i have a '22 Tyee, and i'm pretty darn surprised at the climbing skill of this machine. i went in skeptical since that long 170 fork (42mm offset) might not wiggle thru the baby heads so good as a smaller, trail bike. i was wrong tho, i have been keeping up my normal pace on local trails at dang near the same times as my ryve 115 (the world class climbing champ DC bike) i mean, just LOOK at that STA!!
on top of that, running a jade x out back was plenty fun at Summit. it really does do a lot of good stuff in one package, so much fun!

I feel like the Tyee Medium would be too big for me at 5’6.5”. Anybody can confirm? Can you sit on the seat and reach the ground?
How will the tyee hold up with maybe a week or two of bike park a year
Even my yt jeffsy rips bikeparks. So won't be scared of that.
Any idea how beefy that alloy build was in a size large? 35lbs?
Just a touch over 35lbs yes.
My large Tyee AL came out around 37lbs. Only 1.5lbs heavier than the medium GT Force Carbon it replaced in my quiver.
Love having aluminum as a option prefer it on frames

I would have preferred if they just kept the same frame design and just fixed the cable routing issue. The new design don’t look as good as the old one…

Robert chose the large at 189cm / 6’2”, but has a preference for shorter bikes.
Annnddd, the 55mm shock stroke means no coil if you're much over 200lbs :( You'd think with coils getting more popular that they'd run coil friendly leverage ratios. Also funny that they're based in Vancouver, WA. I have family there so am out there a couple times a year and might need to demo a Propain while visiting haha. I know Yacolt Burn pretty well and Thrillium is an absolute beast of a trail :)
Robert at 220lbs was running a 550lb spring, so still some room for heavier riders.
I weight 205 and run 550lb coil 😉

Sorry but is it better to mount the coil shock on the tyee or the air shock? Because the latter is 400grams lighter
So good looking bike, but shortening the seat tube and reducing the already low insertion depth is sooo stupid and covered by marketing bullshit . Same with saving on lamination of the Carbon by letting out the ports
How tall are you? How much travel does your dropper post have?
189cm with long legs proportionally, on a large with 185mm dropper.

I wanted a Propain(Hugene) last year actually when I was in the market for a new bike because of the steep seat tube angle as well as the suspension performance for pedaling uphill. Sadly they did not have much variety to offer(probably because of the supply chain issues) where I wanted Shimano that was just a no go, and no brakes I liked either, and wheels was a bit off too. If you wanted the 150mm fork that was in the color orange, or orange or... orange. I checked their website right now and it is still like that sadly. The paint was also not all that interesting to me(dull colors), and the final thing was that I wouldn't really save all that much from choosing this brand when all was paid for in shipping and taxes.
Sadly it was just too many downsides for me and I don't want to pay all that money and having to compromize on so many things. That's just a no no to me.
I ended up with a Pivot Switchblade instead and got a full Shimano lineup(I actually prefer Shimano because it just works) even the brakes. It did cost an arm and a leg, but I haven't changed anything on it besides mounting a fender and a bashguard. So many bikes I see that may be properly good bikes, I just see so many things I'd have to swop. Then you will have to pay even more after having spent a fair bit on the bike itself.
Even the seat and grips I really like, and I've never had a bike before where the stock seat suited me at all.
Propain doesn't offer any Shimano parts, that has nothing to do with the supply chain. I don't know why exactly but it's always been like that. Magura breaks are pretty close tho, you can switch the crappy levers for Shimano as well.
@@petesahad3028 If you're going to offer a somewhat custom experience I'll just have to say that it is unwise to offer only 1 of the 2 major brands on something as important as drivetrain. I've heard too much bs on the magura brakes, so I'm going to pass on those. I got the M8120 XT four pot brakes from Shimano on my bike and I'm more than satisfied. Still haven't had any noise issues, but if it happens I'll just try some other pads(maybe the GRAPHENpads, we'll see...)
I also considered Canyon bicycles which I know offer Shimano, yet they did struggle to deliver lots of their offerings(due to supple chain issues) so I made a pass on them as well.
I checked out several other brands as well, but it was just hard to even get a bike at all so I just did not want to make a perfect opportunity pass me by when a shop nearby had my bike just sitting there all ready to go.
