I was extremely lucky to see prime Raul and Casillas, I have never seen a goalkeeper do the things Casillas did, he was called "The Saint" for a reason. He made impossible save after impossible save. He was not the tallest, and Courtois/Neuer are probably better, but he had such a legendary aura and he won games by himself, let's not forget he won the world cup, UCL, La Liga, European Cup and basically every major title.

I used Nacho and VVD as an extreme example to show where the comparison of trophies can lead when we extrapolate it to the extreme level. If Casillas would be from belgium for example but had the exact same abilities, he wouldn't have many of his trophies. I personally think that Neuer is a little bit ahead of him, because he almost revolutionized the goal keeper position with his style (for example his famous game against algeria).
He is not above Neuer or Buffon for sure, but I understand and totally respect his posture. He is one of the gratest of all time and he has a legion of fans who would put him in first, so he must act like it.

No, his debut was a start at the old San Mames, in Bilbao. The first goal he conceded was by Julen Guerrero, an iconic player in Bilbao. I was behind Iker’s goal in the second half, that’s why I know. :)

In the past decade or so, we have seen the likes of Casillas, Buffon, Neuer and Cech at their peaks, it’s important to say any are better than the others, but I would say Neuer did revolutionise the position, changing the way keepers are expected to play, being the first of his kind to have an effect that monumental

The demands of the position of the modern day keeper changing from traditional keepers came about from his success, had he performed poorly in the new role, I doubt the changes would have happened because clubs only started replicating Neuers responsibilities with their keepers because of his success, not because managers copied Peps tactics before the role was introduced

Neuer impressed visually because of how good he was at coming out of his box and playing as a sweeper, but that's not actually the main thing that separates "modern" from "old school" keepers. It's just being good on the ball, in distribution, and in press-resistance. It's mainly to create a numerical advantage when the opponents press high. One defender moves up, the keeper moves up, and unless the other keeper also marks a man, then it's a 11v10 game, there's always an extra man. That's what teams are looking for, and that's Pep's influence on the modern game. The keepers don't need to be able to "literally play in midfield" like Neuer. Plenty of Barca keepers as well as Van der Sar under LVG in the 90s were already doing the sweeper-keeper thing.
So it's not like Pep invented the thing either, he just made a tactical approach seem much more viable that it was previously thought of. The detail itself would not matter if taken out of the greater context of playing out from the back and playing a positional game.

Manuel Neuer revolutionzied goal keeping with an active play style. He made himself immortal against Algeria in the WC 2014 as the best player on the pitch. This Libero play style is something else. With all due respect to Iker Casillas, but Neuer is different. To me at least he is the goat.

What made Iker special was how much of a shotstopper he was despite being relatively shorter and smaller than a lot of the keepers named. He stands just around 6 ft tall where as most keepers are 6'3 and taller. Smaller frame means a lot more space to cover and movement has to be perfect to make up for the lack of reach.
