    I've been watching your reviews for years now and they are the only ones I can trust on youtube. You do it the right way, just like the rest of us...buy a rod that you're interested in, fish it and talk about it. Without the goal of selling us stuff to make a living. Plus, I find that you pretty much have the same taste that I do. Have you thought about building rods for yourself? It's just dumb easy to do. You can really tailor to your own needs, or at least wrap a hook keeper where you want. There's nothing like having a favorite rod that you built. I still buy store rods that interest me , but it isn't the same.

      Maybe when I have more spare time I'll get into rod building. It does look fun! Thanks for the support.

    I own several P5 rods including the FMJ. I love it and agree that 1/2-5/8 is the sweet spot. When I want to go lighter, I use an X bites! I love that rod too! megabass makes some amazing rods for sure!

    $500 you better have great cork and not have to worry about issues with the lock nut. And as you say, a friggin hook keeper.

      @@tylerblank7565 technically to save weight, but that’s not really the point. The best rods usually just don’t come with hook keepers, whatever the reason is. Most are JDM (and they ARE the best rods anyway).

    Have you tried the FMJ ripping a lipless through grass ? Haven’t found that perfect lipless rod yet as I like one to be sensitive but also stiff enough to rip through the grass but then to have a bit of bend to keep the fish hooked on treebles. This FMJ intrigues me

    Hey Brian, I'm looking for a longer spinning rod just for wacky rigs. I've been thinking of an NRX+ 7'3" 872 or a GLX 7'5"?? Your thoughts & thanks for your channel.

    • @Shawn_Lai
      @Shawn_Lai Před 9 měsíci

      I love my NRX+ 872 but it is hard tossing 1/8. The tip takes some weight to load and cast properly, but I was able to feel a steelhead hit a small ned head on slack line. That was the bite where I would not have felt on another rod.

    In your opinion what is the best rod length for jig fishing on boat and on shore? If I can only get one rod which length would you recommend?

    • @Shawn_Lai
      @Shawn_Lai Před 9 měsíci +1

      7' to 7'3"... 7'5" hits a lot of trees but on the flipside you can bomb casts if your not hacking through a jungle. So would depend on if you're pond fishing or river fishing.

    So essentially: Xbites - 1/4-3/8+plastics, SD - 3/8-1/2+plastics, FMJ - 1/2-5/8+plastics?

    • @jimbo0411
      @jimbo0411 Před rokem +1

      I think megabass offers now a lot of overlap on rods from Xbites, dark sleeper, daemos, Super Destroyer shorter rod , Fmj, BMG. The Xbites to me is good for 3/8 wheelhouse or dragging finesse jig cause its softer tip. I also use for light plastics or light wacky free rigs. Where the FMJ wheelhouse is 1/2,5/8 with trailer plus it's more stout to hammer em. I think if you have any just of the 2 rods cover most jig fishing up to 3/4.
