Found some "Gibson" banjo's coming up at a semi local backwoods auction house but have no idea what I'm looking at to know if they are even real or not. I searched around for a bit trying to find one with holes instead of slots which led me here. The one on the far left "paramount banjo" is the only other one with holes I could find in the last hour or so of looking, problem is the one I'm viewing in auction pictures doesn't say paramount on it.... just "Gibson" (in script/ pre war/ if real) with designs (which I also couldn't find a match of).

But why are they so prized and wanted?

Gruhn has an amazing store however the amount of banjo inventory got whacked down to nothing and the picky prejudiced policies of " we only work on Gibsons " is ridiculous marketing implying that we only want the repairs that cost thousands. Not good marketing management and deflates banjo business.
So if you need a banjo worked on dont take it there youll just get an eye roll.
