- Today I'm exploring Shinjuku, one of Tokyo's busiest areas, in the night equipped with a roll of Lomography 800 to practice some street photography on film.

After only watching the first 15 seconds of this video, I've noticed that your videography skills have come a long way. Truly inspiring.
Aww thank you!☺️🫶🏼
@@teocrawfordI can't believe you find photographing back-alleys, "fascinating".
@@mariusmatei2946 Haha why not? They’re so different from back alleys at home and full on interesting little „secrets“. Where do all these places lead to, what kind of people are hidden behind these doors? Lot‘s of questions that entertain my imagination✨
@@teocrawfordha; and yet, you hesitated entering "some shady place".
@@mariusmatei2946 Yeah because that was a biiit too shady, felt like I could get into trouble👀
The photo on the cover is so beautiful. The blur effect produced by the glass on both sides highlights the protagonist in the middle of the photo.
I really appreciate that you take the time to talk about and show the photos that you consider to be a "miss". I'm just starting out with film photography and I've been learning so much from your videos. Thank you for sharing all your amazing work!
Always astounds me that people like the bloke at 13:09 will probably never know the masterpiece they were the front and center of. Really a film still, excellent stuff as always Teo. And don't sweat the GoPro dying, the photos are plenty enough beauty as they are!
Trueee! I wonder at times who these people are and would actually love to know their story…
Thank you for these kind words!🥹🫶🏼
This comment 🤌
@@teocrawford and this too 🤌🤌🤌
Having just visited Tokyo for the purpose of street photography myself. I find it interesting and cool to see how differently two people can cover the same subject. Nicely done.
I found your channel at the start of the year and it's just been so inspirational! Thanks for being so consistent Teo!
That last photo at 13:30 is beautifully framed by the contrast of windows’ texture! Love it!!
great shots! love that you chose to photograph Shinjuku at night, it's got such a specific vibe to it.🌸✨
I love the way to took photos with film cameras! The retro-feeling photos suits with the Tokyo vibe👍🏼
The shot around 12:56 is fantastic.
I loved watching this, it was unlike any other video that I have stumbled upon. Love how you manage to keep us entertained with good pacing!
Beautiful shots! Made me want to shoot photos around this area in Tokyo! I love how some shots feel like Wong Kar Wai films.
You are insanely good! The first photo of Lomo 800 already got me hooked on this video. Love the composition!
I am immensely inspired and so impressed by your photography and videography skills. So grateful for your hard and outstanding work. Immediate subscription. It is one of the very best videos I have seen in 2023.
Man, I love watching these videos. I went to Japan this winter for the first time and now I always feel nostalgic about some of these places. I can't even believe that I was there. Really lived up to the hype, like this awsome vid! :)
Beautiful. I’ve always dreamed of visiting Japan. I really get the vibe from your work. Well done.
4:34 that is such a strong shot! really reminds me of christopher doyle's cinematography in wong kar wai films. great job!
I really enjoyed this particularly your critique of each picture, which I totally agreed with. A really inspiring video so glad I found your channel. Thank you.
i really really loved the vibes of this video it was so interesting to see your pov and the results. also, funny when you said "the first miss" speaking about the bike shoot cause i actually really loved it! different pov ☺
OMG! I really love your photo style. I also like film photography too. Thank you for shooting Japan🇯🇵
Classic emotion in pictures - old school way, love it. - Thanks
Saw 10 seconds of this video and immediately subscribed. Great composition and editing
Great video! Whenever you talked about a picture and what you like about it, i was always like "yesss exactly thats what I am thinking". This was an odd but pleasant feeling, thank you very much.
shinjuku is too beautiful! last week I visited, but only took digital pictures. Your photos are beautiful. congratulations!
Awesome walk around Theo, love your breakdown of the compositions too. Fab pics! 🤓🤟
Aww thank you Scott!🥹🫶🏼

Immediately in love with this video and the opening shots
That feels soooo satisfying 👍
Amazing video, i enjoy it a lot. I like how you described the photos that you shot with details. Also, you really should think about starting a podcast seriously, it would be so great!

Thank You! I lived in Tokyo for 11yrs and now back in the US.
Love the shot at 13:19 (other shots are amazing too of course)! Subbed!
13:34 feels so surreal, its actually such an insane picture. WOW.
You almost clipped into the back rooms in that narrow alley 😂 love how your photos of a highly busy place still seem to have an air of peacefulness to them ❤️ also, lomo 800 is 🔥 definitely a must have film when travelling
Yeah hahaha😅😂😂 Thank you!🫶🏼☺️
Ahhh yeah I’ve kind of fallen for this film again… hadn’t used it in a while, but definitely will be again soon🤩
Such aa great concept! great work man
Aww thank you!🥹🙏🏼
I loved this video! That shot toward the end of the guy in the restaurant was so good! I didn’t realize Lomo 800 had halation. I still haven’t tried any of their regular color negative options lol
Ohhhh you should - especially Lomo 800 is really such a good film🤌🏼
Thank you Reimann, glad you also connect with that shot!🥹🫶🏼
Nice photos! Love the ruminations on them as well. For street, I'd love to see you push yourself to take photos of people from the front, it'll bring another layer of depth to these photos.
I think you fit very well in japanese photography. these are the best photos of japna ive seen on youtube. please stay in japan longer and please take more photos of cities!
Very Nice Video! Appreciate a lot that you analyze composition and discuss the Images, even the ones that are Not - that - well 😊
Thank you, glad you enjoy that!☺️🙏🏼
I think you would have wonderful conversations with Liam Wong! Great video ^^
(@7:41 the other person in focus was literally calling for like one second as well, love the repetition caught at the perfect moment!!)
Ohh you think? I’m afraid I don’t know Liam, but I’ll have to look into that!☺️🙌🏼
Ahhh hahah, thanks!🥹🙌🏼
I really love your street photos, you should do more of it. This might be one of my favorite videos of yours so far!
Im nachhinein hätte ich ja auch auf deutsch schreiben können naja, mach weiter so.
Teo in Tokyo? Amaaaaazing, also to the guy in the comments saying your videography skills have improved, I totaly agree
super cool images!
The best intro ever, amazing job
Great Video. I really like the Fact you took One Photo! In the Style of Henri Cartier Bresson. Also its nice you are shooting Film. I've been a Pro Extreme Sports Photographer for 35 Years with most of my Success coming when I shot Film for Windsurfing Magazines all over the World for 10 years. I had 7 Water Housings at the Time for Swimming in Big Waves to Take Cover Shots. Thanks for sharing your Work and analysis! Its Great to see young Photographers shooting Film again!
Your Videos inspired me of getting a Film Camera and now my Minolta SRT 101b finally arrived and I loaded a Film in it to check if everything is working🙈 I‘m so excited that I almost don‘t know where to start haha😅
DAMN, learning a lot about photography here, imo i actually loved the 9:21 bike shot, it really speaks to me honestly more than some of the other amazing shots in this video.
this reminded me of 'Enter the Void' by Gaspar Noé. Amazing!
Ahhhh Gawx! You here!? What an honour to welcome you in this little corner of CZcams. Thank you so much for the kind comment☺️🙏🏼
I saw potencial photos inside your video, anyway. Great videooo!
Great shots of Shinjuku, Lomo800 の ハレーション きれい!
I know how crowded those places so super surprised that you managed to take great photos in not so easy condition to shoot 😆
あー Wat ありがとう!🥹🫶🏼
混んでて たのしかった☺️
you r so inspiring
Teo shooting street. Love to see it!
Hehe danke David!🥹🫶🏼
I feel like i'm right there in Tokyo. Nice immersive visuals.
Ohhh great, glad the immersion works here!🤩
Thank you for this video
Sure! Thank you for tuning in!☺️🙌🏼
Amazing
Your videos inspired me to dust off my own Pentax K1000. I enjoy photography but unfortunately, my uni course got me so busy that I couldn't pursue my hobbies for a while. What is the app that you use as a light meter? I'm not sure that my light meter is fully working and film can get quite expensive so I want to make sure I'm not wasting it. Thanks for the fantastic video!
10:05 the guy with tan n orange lines standing, with the pink truck in background would be a great shot
really inspirational video. what lens do you use on the k1000? you may have just inspired me to buy one and finally try shooting on film
Very nice night in Tokyo.
What would I do without your videos💛💯
Aww🥹🥹🫶🏼
It's amazing how your videos are both very helpful and relaxing. You make everything very clear, and it's very enjoyable. Thank you for your work ! I just have a simple question, since I'm using the same gear (Pentax K1000), what is you lightmeter app ? Thank you again Teo !
Oops, nevermind, I get my answer in your video about lightmeter apps ... 🙂
Magical
Aww thank you!🥹🫶🏼
Can you please do a tutorial on how you do long exposure on a film camera please? I dont know how to calculate how long i should hold the shutter open to get a properly exposed image. Ive seen a few charts explaining it but I think you have a good way of explaining things. I really dont want to waste more film than I have to. Thanks!
Great photos! I love Tokyo and it's whole vibe. I'm just beginning with Photography a learning a lot from you thanks! Did you shoot this at box speed or push or pull the film?
never in my life did i find it easier to shoot film night shots in japan than during the day. the bright grey skies during the day was really difficult.
If I was walking on the street one day and some how find out u snapped a photo of me id feel honored
chasing the light!
Really inspiring video thank you very much.
You should make tutorial on voice over your voice is really relaxing (;
How do you grade your video? Even your gopro footages look absolutely beautiful and very close to your film photos. How on earth do you do that? You are such an inspiration to a novice like me!
Es fühlt sich ganz anders an jetzt ein Video aus Japan zu schauen, seid ich selbst dort war XD gutes Video und stronge Bilder!!
Ahhhh richtig cool, das freut mich!🥹🫶🏼
Hi, I really like your photos!
I always find it difficult to separate the person I want to photograph from the crowd, my photos sometimes ends up with a mess. But it seems you can solve it easily, like the photos in 7:00 and 8:00, there were so many people on the street but you make audience like me immediately concentrate on the subject you tried to show. May I ask that are there any tips? Thanks!
5:38 @Teo Crawford Do you remember which shutter speed you used to shoot this? Love the blurriness
This Color grade good lord!!✨✨✨✨🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Aww thanks!🥹🫶🏼
Your pictures are very cool
Ahhh thank you!🥹🫶🏼
amazing video! where you shooting waistlevel? if you was doing it its because u have a waistlevelfinder?
Great video! I’m currently planning to go to Japan with my friends. I’m pondering whether I should bring my Nikon FM2 or my Fujifilm X100T, or maybe both?
Thank you! Ohh cool - definitely both!! I‘ve been shooting so much that sometimes I have to shoot digital to not over shoot my film costs😵
Hello Teo, great work, I had a question, is your intro footage filmed using your Sony A7iii?
I really really like these photos! I am a film student and this set of photos really inspired me for cinematography. Could I ask you what camera and lens your shot on, and did you color grade these shots in any way? Is it possible to make movies with similar textures?
Ohhh so cool, thank you🥹🫶🏼
The photography was done with a Pentax K1000 and mostly (if not all, not sure anymore) a Pentax 50mm f/1.7 and a roll of Lomography 800. I wouldn’t say that these shots are particularly colour graded, just corrected to my liking while scanning - it‘s hard to say where correcting ends and grading begins, but basically this was all done within the conversion and correction in Negative Lab Pro in Lightroom👍🏼
Of course! I‘d say lighting and set design is the key. And of course you can help with colour grading and digital grain🙌🏼
love this video. how do you record the POV ? with a gopro on your chest ?
Loving your videos. Just wondering what lens/lenses are you using? A 28 or 50mm?
Subscribed you⭐️
Hi amazing video, what color grading you used for the video ?
niceee
nice
The photo of the man in the restaurant using the frames is astonishing!! Which shutter speeds have you used? I believe the city lights helps a lot to get good exposures, but I think it still needs some practice to do it
Aww thank you so much!🥹🫶🏼
I was mostly shooting somewhere between 1/15 and 1/60, most of the time was probably 1/30 or 1/60🙌🏼 Also I didn’t mind embracing the motion blur so I was ok with going lower, but indeed Tokyo is so bright at night that it’s still quite easy to stay on decently high shutter speeds :D
Nice!!! what camera and lens are you using?
Awesome shot at 13:10. Great composition. Also what camera did you use on this walk?
Thank you!☺️🫶🏼 I was shooting with my Pentax K1000🙌🏼
Hey dude! Unreal video. What is that app you use on your phone to get the exposure settings im assuming?
lghtmtr
Hi! What light meter app do you use? I noticed you used something at 2:35! Amazing vibes and photos btw
It’s called Lghtmtr - I actually made a short video on this topic in case you’re interested in more details🙌🏼
czcams.com/video/sPf7HBdMi0w/video.html
Thank you!🫶🏼
Lightroom tutorial pleaseeeee!
I love your photography. How are you able to focus on the subject so fast during walking? Or is there a nice auto focus for this camera? I know its a stupid question but I kinda struggle with that in my street photography, especially when the moment is so fast...
I focus manually and I think it just comes down to practice - I‘m not very fast, but I do try at times and sometimes it works better sometimes worse🤷🏻♂️ I think I have a pretty good feel for how far I need to turn the focus away from infinity when shooting a subject that is a couple meters away, which also helps🤔
Great vid. Noticed you using an app app to help with exposure settings. Mind telling me which app you use? Cheers.
Ahh sure, it’s called Lghtmtr, I made a short video on the topic of light metering and how I do it, in case you want more details: czcams.com/video/sPf7HBdMi0w/video.html&feature=sharec 🙌🏼
@@teocrawford I will check it out thanks so much!
Hi, what is that app you used to take the picture at 2:35? Thanks
sorry I have a question, since that film photos resolution should be higher than your video resolution 1920*1080. Have you meet a situation that the film photos are losing quality after exporting the video? or do you have some recommendations of putting film photos in video and not losing its quality? Thanks in advanced!!!
