A lot cheaper than $50k for a geeeny copy, in 50 years time your guitar will have itsbown magical story to tell. This is a fantastic guitar and a future collectors edition 🤟
Thanks for checking it out! 🫡🫡🫡
I just bought one today after watching your review 👍 i had a bonamassa epiphone lazarus for a week and sold it to me it lacked the quality and veneer top looked false
I turn 50 in 2 months and i just put a deposit down on one of these. There will be a Gibson 50's faded in the house for my 50th birthday, I'm floored about that!! Great in depth video on the Gibson 50's Faded...thank you thank you. Cheers!!
I've got one and it's easily the best guitar I've ever had. The action is just so fast on this thing. Truly a thing of beauty
I wish I got to keep mine!
Just bought one and got it today...really fun to play. Very vintage feel.
Nice! I loved my time with this one. Sadly had to send it back
Great, honest, straight to the point review. I didn’t feel you were trying to push it, and you convinced me that the deal I had in front of me for this guitar was not to be missed and you were right. This has now become my number 1 so thanks for your time and keep up the good work ..
Thanks so much for this comment! I am glad to have helped and hope you enjoy the guitar forever 🤘🤘🤘
Just got myself one. It's so beautiful and amazing in every way. The fact that it looks like Gary Moore's guitar makes it even better as he's my number one favorite. Tone for days.
I love the faded honeyburst finish. Great demo, Steve !
Thanks John! Love the color too
I went to a guitar store a few weeks ago to buy a Marshall SV20h and I picked this guitar off the wall to try the Marshall, holy shit that was the best Gibson LP I've ever played, it sounded KILLER with the Marshall, I told the guy that helped me, dude I'm coming back in two weeks to get this guitar, pls don't sell it, hide this shit lmao
Luckily it's still there and I'm gonna get it tmr after work..
Amazing! Congrats and good luck with it. See if they offer layaway to get it on hold
Did u buy it?
Did you buy it?!?!
@@doc_matter yes I did
Good story….And?!
Just ordered one and got a great deal, can’t wait!
Awesome! Hope you dig it
That sounds Great. For Christmas my wife bought me the new gold top with the soap bar P90 pickups. Hand wired with orange drops also! Great Guitar! 🎸
Oh nice! Thats on my list of needs still 😅🫠
@@SteveSterlacci tone is unbelievable man! It has the 12” radius neck and all!
Hope you and Jess are well. Keep on! Good hearing you!
Thanks for joining the live Nicky! Hope to see ya soon
I had a 2007/2008 Les Paul Faded when they first came out and I loved it. It had the zebra pickups. Like a fool (man I wish I had a dime for every time I said that), I sold it. Was glad to see these reissued. Snatched one up in 2022. Great LP with a vintage vibe.
Gary Moore absolutely played Stripe more than Greeny and was the guitar I fell in love with as a teenager watching him live. He also recorded Still Got The Blues (the actual track not full album) with Stripe and not Greeny as some people say. Glad you found the guitar you wanted! 👍🏻
Got one in the mail. cant wait. Hope it feels as good as it looks...definitely hits all the right boxes. Ive had it a few days. omg..its my best gibby yet
Same here now, did you like it or did you send it back?
I have the 60’s faded, it’s fantastic. I will eventually add this one, it’s on my list.
Just picked up the 60s faded. Great guitar
very cool! Wish I Was able to keep mine
Great demo! I remember dreaming of the Faded Lemon burst back in the day
Thanks! I dreamt of the same ones
I just ordered mine, can't wait for it to arrive.
This beauty looks a lot, also spec wise, like my Traditional 1960 honeyburst of 2011. It’s a limited series in a faded finish. No weight relief, nice weight; 4,1kg. 60’s neck. This new faded series is one of my favourites now. They don’t come along often in Europe.
Wow! Nice!! Where in Europe on tour right now
I recently added this bad girl to my collection! Looks, plays, feels, sounds amazing.
Very nice. If I didn't already have a 50's Les Paul Standard, this would be the one to buy. I love a clean satin look and feel. Mine is played in as I got it when they first came out and it's been my #1 guitar for 3 years! Great guitar. I also clicked on the link to Gibson as well. Keep these great videos coming!
Nice Jim! Same here about the satin look. Nothing like a played in guitar
I love mine although I took the truss rod cover off that had standard on it and found a blank cover that looks just like one they used in the 50's that was blank with the real bell shape with the heavy white trim on it. Took me a while to find one that look like the one they used back then not like the spare blank one they give you with the guitar where you can hardly see the white boarder on the cover and they never hab standard on the covers back in the 50's they were blank
Good call! Prob looks better that way
Beautiful tones! Love the finger tips as the picks. I believe it adds to the warmth.
Thanks Mark!
My first guitar (I still have it) was an Ibanez RS1000. Also known as “the Gary Moore model”. I’ve only see one video of him playing it live & he’d switch back over to his Gibson. Haha
Sounds excellent. Really nice pickup sounds and looks good. Such sustain. Just played a slash victoria and it was awesome too
Thanks! I demoed one of those too and was so impressed
I just bought the 50’s faded. Ihad been looking for a standard Standard for while but I really didn’t connect with any. I really didn’t know about this faded series until I saw mine in a store. It was a B-stock with tiny ding in the body so it was discounted. I tried it and bought it immediately. The Sarin finished neck fits to my hand like a glove, it’s very well balanced and for a Les Paul very light weight. I like it’s sort of understated look, I won’t look out of it’s place anywhere, it can be played on a punk rock gig or a Blues gig with a suit on.
The unique guitar that has a unique sound. Congratulations !
Thanks for checking it out!
Just ordered mine. Can't wait!
Lucky u
congrats! Hope you love it
For the ABR 1 bridge. If they really do follow the original vintage specs, it will pull sales away from the Gibson Custom Shop Historic collection which is why I think Gibson USA chose this modern approach. Though I didn't get to touch a true ABR 1 bridge setup to feel it but this setup still plays well.
Always loved the faded models and I do own one myself. A special run for Ishibashi Music Japan in the early 2019 (Pre JC), the only diff? Its just a plain maple cap for mine, still pretty to me though.
You can really feel the wood throughout the guitar in comparison to the gloss-up bling buffed les paul. Thankful Gibson USA now did this as a release.
Though I hope that more colour options in the near future if its well received. Alot is disliking it due to the high price...but once you get hands on a faded. It's hard to go back to the glossy boys.
“ gloss-up bling buffed les paul” indeed, makes a huge difference... that VOS evokes that antique Stradivarius beauty that only really suits a Les Paul; it’s a massive edge for Gibson. The 61 Custom shop SG also has a beautiful VOS finish, mind
You can still feel the wood through the lacquer. As soft as they are they will also age very quickly.
Just got one of these, took it to a luthier that I know and had it polished a little bit, as one of the flaws I found is the more you play on these you get an uneven shine on the guitar that looks unnatural, so I evened it out and i couldn’t be happier with the result!
Very nice! Its a great axe
I have a 2008 honey burst faded nitro as you mentioned …. Best LP I have ever owned
Great video! They should let you keep it after this review!
They did not 🫣
I would have just bought it if I were him! Wow what a guitar. The best I’ve heard him play.
Yes, this is definitely the right guitar. I chose this one among all the models and now I am holding a 2023 model in my hands. I think this guitar has not been fully discovered yet. I think it is the most beautiful guitar of the standard 50s. As you said, this guitar resembles Gary Moor's guitar and It looks like Slash's Jessica guitar. But I didn't like Jessica's glossy varnish. My previous guitar was a 2019 Studio Tangerine Burst. It is also a beautiful guitar and I still love its tones. But the fact that the back of the neck of the 50 has a satin-like matte and slippery varnish makes it incredibly easy to play. And yes, it is definitely a price-performance monster guitar. I'm glad I bought it.
gary s your favorite player of all time!!! we can definitely be friends!!
indeed!
Agree about the faded finish... hmmm tempted
Its so good lookin!
Nice guitar! The top looks great! I’m glad they brought these back, they were / are my favorite.
Thanks Ben! I definitely am glad as well
I can tell where I rest my arm and fingers on it. It’s starting to get a nice sheen to it. Such a cool guitar!!
I love that!
Those cheap guitars are great and all, but c'mon this one blows them all away. There's something in the nuances of the notes, you can hear it even on youtube. I can tell from the way you are playing it, you can feel it!
Thanks! Of course this is absolutely true. Its a completely different animal. That extra bit that just has "it"! Cheapos are fun to mess with, but the real deal is the real deal
That thing looks and sounds Amazing!
I prefer Gloss but it still looks solid
Wanted one for a long time
So I bought this one😊
Congrats!!! Hope you're digging it
A les paul that truly looks vastly different from every angle of view, A Gibson Swamp ash! I have a 2013 Gary Moore signature as well. So as nice as your's may be, I simply can not justify. Still the video is entertaining, thanks. If I can ever can get a 80's Gibson custom natural wood les paul, that it!
Great choices! Id love a GM signature. Hes my fav
bought a new 2022 faded 60's neck about 1 year ago. I agree it is a nicely made, very good looking guitar. It came set up perfect from the factroy, no cosmetic issues. Gibson nailed it. Now that I have been playing it for a year, I have two things to whine about, but these are purely personal preferences. First, the heritage cherry sunburst finish, really isn't. It has more orange in the red than normal and has a "peach" coloring. I wish they had not messed with the normal heritage cherry sunburst. Second is I absolutley hate the "61" pickups it comes with. I find them tinny and shrill. I replaced them with a set of Bare Knuckles "the mule" pickups and now this guitar absolutely roars. Definetly a long term keeper!
One more thing buyers should be aware of. These "faded" LPs get marked up very very easily. The slightest bump leaves a mark in the finish because you don't have the protective clear coat.
I happened to touch the Greeny/Moore LP at a guitar convention. Hoping it would give me more mojo. I really hope u can figure out a way to keep this. It’s a beauty. Maybe a few trades? Just a suggestion. Only issue is the chunky neck. You know what I like lately? When neck pup is nickel covered and bridge pup is not. I think it looks cool. Still looks cool though uncovered.
How awesome is that ! I wish i could've touched it too. I unfortunately already had to send it back. But maybe the next loaner will be even better 😄 thanks for watching and commenting on all the vids! I typically don't go for mismatched looking pups, but i do have an uncovered zebra ive been wanting to put somewhere
Love the guitar. What reverb have you got… oh. You just said we’ll get to that. I should finish the vid before asking questions 😁
I can spoil the secret 🤣😅 i am plugged into the quad cortex
Great review and playing Steve! I've got a 2005 faded tobacco burst. I'm a fingerpicker so where I rest my fingers is worn down to the wood. Actually looks a bit like Greenies wear beside the back pickup, so im digging it lol. I gotta try one of these new ones now, see how they compare!
The finish Gibson satin finished guitars always wears off quickly where fingers make contact. Some like the "reliced" look it leaves, but to me, I find it to be more of a "that's not great" sort of thing.
@@markde9904 That’s fair. I don’t understand the hype with guitars new off the shelf looking like they’ve been gigged daily for 30 years. If it’s natural wear and tear I don’t really mind it.
Sounds great. My 2022 faded 50 has a silk screened Gibson logo on the headstock, I can't get Gibson to comment about it
Not really sure. Their CS wont respond?
Possibly a counterfeit? Gibson can verify the guitar model by serial number if you email their cs.
Is it me or are the revamped 50s Standards sounding more like 40-50 year old Gibsons? These tones are fantastic. 🤘🏼
awesome guitar and playing!!!
Thanks Janice
Thx for the video. It helped me make a decision and buy one of these. I got a great deal on one from the Gibson Demo Shop.
I had a 2005 faded it sounded really good but the neck went south .then i got a Corsa killer
As a Gibson hater through and through I'll admit these are nice looking..
I'd like to see them with a nice deep 50's style carve top and some flitch matched tops, also some other color options would be cool..
I'd never buy one or use one just because it's a Gibson, even if it was free of charge I wouldn't use it 🤷
But it is very cool looking...
After researching, a “True ABR-1” is not a “World of difference” when you hear post to wood conversation comparison. The Nashville ABR-1 was done for stability & Gibson probably knows best since they built the damn thing. I’m new to Gibson & just got my first 2022 Standard Gibson (holy shit-wow), I’ve been missing out. Standards sound freakin awesome to begin with, but i have to kinda laugh when we start splitting hairs on the true ABR-1 topic. The average audience member doesn’t give a damn, & can’t tell the difference anyway. Great jams. Peace🤘🏼
I took my standard truss rod cover off and replaced it with a truss rod cover they used in the 50's to make it look more authentic due to fact they didn't have a pickgaurd in the 50's that had standard on it, they were blank. Absolutely love mine.
nice! this one had both options in the case candy
So did mine. It's cool but I did buy the type they used in the 50's with the heavy white trim and it has much more of a bell shape but the blank one in the case is cool atleast they give that option for people who have OCD but is to the point where I had to have the one they used in the 50's. It's painful to be that OCD about it let me tell ya.
@@thomasbowlin6787 I am sorry you have to go through that!
Yes I have it my whole life but it does have some benefits. I have a masters in music and 2 other degrees and when I was doing cover songs, boy did I ever nail them down but I am now 61 and have had a 34 straight run from 1978 until 2012 playing in small venues to very large ones opening up for national acts in front on thousands to playing in bars from New York to California and Texas where I live and have my own studio so although it may be painful to the point where I can't sleep for days do to OCD it did do me great in some areas in my life. You should check out some of videos although to some I am outdated and a dinosaur to others they live it.
@Thomas Bowlin thats awesome man! Hope to run into you out there sometime. I'll check them out
Sounds terrific!!
Interesting how this one really shows what a honey burst would alude to. A good contrast between the yellow on the center and brown along the contours. All the ones I’ve seen are yellow and I can’t see the burst gradient. Maybe you had a good lighting work on this video.
Yeah this one was a great example!
Nice I have a standard faded 2005 production #13 of the série =)
Looks beautiful 👌
Beautiful top, great tones and great playing. Does the paper work inside the case mention that the guitar was Plek'd ? Thank you
Thank you for checking it out! I would double check the link in the description but I don't recall it being mentioned
All the Gibson line up are plek’d from factory. They spend more time on them once you get to the standard lineup and custom shop👍🏼
Had a L&M import to Canada. They would bring in a couple hundred each year...the one that got away..."sigh"
I hate stories like that. Throw caution to the wind next time!
Lovely looking guitar, I'm a big fan of satin finishes, and really enjoyed your playing, which was the perfect 'fit' for this one. Hoping one turns up in HK - would be seriously interested, more so than the 3K 'Greeny' that's getting a lot of press right now.
Great color, but if it only had a cherry back!
That would be nice! I do appreciate a dark back
after the war and still got the blues les paul
Help Steve! I tried this model out at GC and wondered if it was wired 50s style. I know you mentioned that it is. With all due respect to you, are you certain? Perhaps it just has lower value capacitors and audio taper pots? On Gibson's info page they don't mention the wiring style except to say hand wired, audio taper pots and orange drop caps. When I tried it out the volumes and tones seem to behave as if they were 50s style. I didn't want to take the back plate off and of course their tech said the 50s and 60s only refer to the neck shape. I was wondering if you took the opportunity to remove the back plate and inspect the wiring?
If you tried it and liked how it rolled off, why stress about what it says on paper? I know as much as I say in the vid and believe it is 50s. I did not go in and check
Amazing instruments
Wish they let me keep it!

Nice video and great playing, how heavy was it? Does it have a long tennon? Thank you so much.
no long tenon unfortunately, but really cant tell a difference

Would be funny if it was a coffee stain. Worker spills coffee on it before finished lol.
Definitely would be! And im the dummy that liked it 😅
Does anyone know if the rare runs of 2010-2011-2012 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Faded Honeyburst are solid bodies or weight relief?
Should have my faded honey burst thursday
Stripe was a 1959, SN “9 2227”. It’s the “Still Got the Blues” guitar.
What is the difference of the new vs. “Real” ABR1? The tailpiece is Cast aluminum & reads “ABR1”. So what is different or misleading?

I wish I could afford one of these, but at 2500.00 I can't do it anytime soon.
Do i get similar flame maple? Cause im afraid there are no flames when i saw these models online. Pls help someday 😢
You would have to ask the shop. If you use sweetwater, they send pics
Im thinking to buy this or 60s but Im a bit concerned of this faded satin like finish. Does it break/ get scratches easier than gloss finish and does the paint disappear easily? I know its cheaper since gloss finish takes time to produce.
"its gonna fall off" .. the paint is gonna fall off?? That sounds scary o.O
This guitar looks really good but is it too fragile I dont know?
Fragile? No. But it will buff if you play it a lot and potentially relic faster than a gloss finish. I personally like the character that would come. I'd skip it if you want it to always look shiny and new
Thanks Steve. Im not sure what you mean by "buff", cant find a decent word for it in my language. Do you mean get shiny or something?
Anyway I did it. I ordered this exact guitar today. I should get in two weeks, my first Gibson ever. This looks really good and maybe even better when older, and they say it these faded ones sounds better than gloss finished ones, no idea if that is true thou. @@SteveSterlacci
@teemuylikulju6935 congratulations! Yes I do mean it will get shiny in the spots you naturally rub against. Enjoy it 😁
Thanks man!!@@SteveSterlacci
What model pickups does it have?
Burstbuckers. I do mention it in the video and the link in description will take you to all the details i missed
What's the neck like size-wise?
Thick! Def 50s style
She looks like Slash’s Jessica.
I can see that!
Unfortunately with the newer nitro finishes they have so many plasticizers that it will still look great 30 years from now. Some colors can fade (nothing like the old nitro finishes did), and obviously chip and dent if hit hard enough. But even most colors won't finish check all that much. I know regulations have changed and they can't use the same old processes, but sometimes I wonder if they make their new finishes so that you basically have to buy a Murphy Lab to get a classic, authentic "relic" look.
I think the primary goal is a guitar that will last. Then for those that want the old way, theres a higher price tag for more advanced work
There’s no clear coat. Pick one up & you’ll understand
Don’t notice the difference at all on the ABR.
Maybe there is, maybe there isnt. Who ever knows?!

@@SteveSterlacci thanks
I haven't followed you long enough to know if you are joking. Perhaps this is your Chinese copy with just a few more upgrades..and in need of a few more? I didnt like some of the shrill highs (e.g. 5:29) out of that at all...ugghh horrible. But maybe it was just your amp settings/ preferences and of course, its a free world, each to their own. You could make a nice Gary Moore tribute out of that guitar LOL! He is also one of my favourite players, especially during the Lizzy and Victims of the Future work. Once you rewind that neck PAF with 42 Heavy Formvar and maybe flip the magnet, give me a yell ;) Hahah,, Right now l dont think it sounds fantastic, whether its a cheap copy or not. I made a cheap guitar out of an ammo box that actually sounds less harsh.. in parts. Nice if you could PLEASE do an audio comparison with the China copy!! (Once you put some Seymour or Dimarzios in it). But perhaps that would test the patience of the good folk at Gibson too much. Its truly excellent that they sent you this guitar for review, given you have recently been upgrading a 'competing' unlicensed Chinese copy. That in itself shows confidence in their brand.
Hey man! This is indeed a real one lol its stock from the factory. If I were to keep it, i think the burst buckers would be first to go. The tone you're alluding to I was going for a tele on steroids sound using my Z Wreck (mainly a tele amp) so I could see where its not for everyone. As for my copy, its already got gibson custombuckers in it with the magnet flipped and new wiring going in next. Part 3 will be epic! Its cool they loaned me this, but its not like im being paid or get to keep it. I'm cool speaking freely. Thanks for checking it out!
@@SteveSterlacci Thanks for the response and explanation, I really was wondering. Its a beautiful looking guitar, good on Gibson for letting you review it. If I was loaded I would consider one, that would be mildly modified (pickups). I have 3 Gibsons already (like you inc. a 70s custom), but have room for another. Hey, I really look forward to Part 3 of the Greeny copy with Custombuckers!
@MRTHUDTV thanks again for checking it out! If you havent done so, can you click the bitly link to the gibson site? No need to do anything just click it and check out the guitar. They are tracking those links so it looks better for me 😅🤣. Now, back to my counterfeit....

That top is smoking. Doesnt look like a AA top......Interesting. Unfortunatley, more times than not, you only get tops like that from Gibson if you are reviewing there guitars or a dealer who is in Gibsons good old boy club.
I did have to catch the angle just right. In most pics it looked plain
I don't like the uncovered humbucker look. My Gibson LP Classic in honeyburst has uncovered pickups and it just irritates the hell out of me.
Id def put covered on if i kept it
