I usually agree with Bob but his take on early genesis was wacked out. It's about creation and God's desire for man to live in fellowship with Him as Sons of God. Israel does not enter the equation until Genesis 12 after the Fall and Flood. Bob's explanation was painful to watch.
Genesis isn't a parable but rather literal truth and that there is an abundance of scientific and historical evidence that shows the legitimacy of God's word.

I messaged Bob on twitter. All I did was show appreciation and thank him and SOCO films because as a person who was struggling with my faith and had so many questions/doubts but after coming across this channel and watching these videos it helped me learn a lot and made an impact on me that I feel stronger to Christ more then ever but all I got was a “seen” and no response and I felt as if he did not care. Bob has some cognitive dissonance with the way he sees Genesis. Christianity is not based on myth or interesting stories-it is based on real history. There was a real Adam, to whom we are all related. There was a real Garden and Fall, which is why we are all sinners. There was a real Curse, which is why there is death and suffering.
I think he wasn’t saying that Genesis couldn’t be read literally. The Bible is full of references to other parts of scripture and it was cool to hear that perspective of Genesis. I personally disagree that the world was here for millions of years and then God decided to make Earth. I was quite surprised when Bob said that.
I follow Answers in Genesis quite closely and their claims put earth 6-8 thousand years old by the moons distance growing, Grand Canyon, etc.

When debating ultimate questions, everyone must eventually appeal to an ultimate standard. We can’t keep appealing to a higher and higher standard because the stairs must end somewhere.
Even secular logicians recognize this problem. Every philosophical system must start with presuppositions-starting points or assumptions- that cannot be proven from anything more basic, but are accepted up-front as the foundation for all subsequent reasoning.
The Bible claims to be this ultimate standard of truth, the “Word” given by the Almighty Creator God. Most people point to one of three standards: their own personal opinion, public consensus, or great moral literature. But that is not an option if the Bible is true.
And that all conflicts with reality. So you have to believe that God is tricking you, which he can't do in your faith.

This is where Bob goes off track with Genesis. How did sin enter the world if not through one man? (Romans 5:12). Jesus taught that God created one man and one woman (Mark 10:6) and mentions Abel, a son of Adam and Eve in Luke 11:51. This is not a parable or representation of Israel. You are not getting that out of scripture.
Agreed, I take Genesis primarily literally and secondarily as a parable of many interpretations.
And Adam and Eve, the Garden, etc. are not symbolic of Israel as Bob claims. That's one I had not heard before.

Thanks, Bob. Many modern Christians just don't know as much as they should about the faith. BTW, I agree with you that the Genesis Creation account is a parable. The Hebrew names of the main characters (Human, Life, Sword, Fleeting Breath) strongly suggest this. Jesus spoke in parables because God has been speaking to His children in parables since time began.

Bob Can you clarify what you meant when you said Christianity isnt “you, your Bible, and your God”, but rather “you, the body of Christ, and then God?” As i believe it can be interpreted in many ways, and I'm not sure I agree with you as I understand it. If by “you, your Bible and your God”, you mean that it shouldn’t merely be an isolated exercise, but rather a balance of a personal intimate relationship and the aid of community, then I agree.
Of course fellowship and community is important partly but not totally because it serves for instruction and learning, but that’s only after you’ve had first a personal encounter with God, Whether it's through his revealed word, communal discourse, dreams, etc. All of which the holy spirit is behind and responsibIe for. But, I also think the order you suggest seems to ignore the many parts in the Bible that speak about knowing God on a personal level.
I do believe that our relationship with God and scripture shouldn't be in isolation as it can lead to subjective and unfounded tendanoces and views, but in following the order you suggest we run the risk of Placing too much power into the hands of fallible human beings. And, intentional or not, places them in a position of authority before God, a hierarchy that can have catastrophic consequences within the church and breed legalistic and dogmatic and authoritarian tendencies.
I Can Identify with this Young Man, he's a young Christian who has basic knowledge of Christianity from his upbringing and what the Priests teach from the pulpit. However, somethings aren't adding up so he's looking for good answers to defend his stance as a Christian should he be approached about it. Not just "the Bible says so" but Historical and probably scientific evidence. From my experience in Theological College, even they said somethings in the Bible can't be taken literally and some parts of Genesis is one of them.

Bob we are all being indoctrinated from a young age to rationalism and it’s very difficult to de condition our minds. It needs lot of patience and perseverance.

It might help his faith to check out Reasons to Believe, an organization started by astrophysicist Hugh Ross which gives scientific evidence for the truth of the Bible. There truly are no scientific issues in the Bible.

There's a huge variety in Christian exegesis of the early chapters of Genesis. Many of the Church Fathers didn't take these passages literally. Augustine is by far the most well-known example, but there are many more.
