I have your lessons on in the background, while I’m working , just to hear you play without the rest of the band(love them too). This is the best Dead “how-to” channel, right down to your thumbnail/logo.
Any fool can see that you are a talented guitar player but I am saying that you are a tremendously talented teacher as well.
This dude made me realize I’ve been playing “Morning Dew” wrong for the past 15 years. His playing is on point…
Thank you for your channel. Great lessons, appreciate the fun you put back into learning.
Something that Jerry does during that jams that I enjoy just as much or even more is incorporating an octave sound with and without the filter. Give it a try especially if you love that Cornell 77' vibe.
Hell yeah! I do that too, but I’m usually rocking that tone on Feel Like a Stranger. Definitely gunna do it more on this tune though. Thanks, brohan
I keep coming back to your lessons for review and refresh. Keep on Truckin. So good.
Coming back for this one, great one to jam on
Davvy, dude you are the man. So glad i found your channel. Been learning and playin dead tunes for the last couple years. I wish i would have found your channel sooner!! love the humor and you always kill it. I haven't delved through all of your videos yet but would love a video on jerry licks and chromatics. I make up loops and shit and jam by myself, would love a "Jerry-isms" video on your thoughts on how he traversed the fret board and your take on it as well. kind of "in the mindset" of how you look at playing over chord progressions. its a broad topic i realize but chromatics and playing changes is difficult for me.
Absolutely love your videos, hilarious so much better to learn w humor. TY
you are an amazing musician and hilarious. love your spirit. thank you
Awesome, thanks for sharing your knowledge; very rad, and easy to follow and understand.
best guitar lesson aha watched this on repeat
love that when you listen to enough of an artist, you'll just naturally do their moves without even trying to learn it intentionally (e.g. with you vibrato on the fire into)
Am a Head who loves you back! TY for sunny sessions🌟
Dude you rule. Best lesson ever.

beautifully done!!
Have always wanted to hear this jammed in Meatstick... Great lesson.
Cheers !!! Thanks for the good information.
Uh oh. I think I just found a new favorite channel! I gotta come back later though. I've been on a George Harrison kick and I have to ride it out and every time I learn some dead stuff I go off few month journey. I've been playing Fire for a long time but I'll see what you have to offer. I shall return!
I’ll be here, homie! I think I have 23 or so GD lessons and I’ll be doing every single one over the years (about 501 tunes). So, I ain’t goin anywhere.
Epicness dude ! Thank you so much for this you rule!
sounds great brotha. during the solos i feel like you do a really good job moving with the band. the solo grooves. think that's so important
Love you Davvy! I always laugh out loud.
Doin' That Rag, Dupree's Diamond Blues, and Cosmic Charlie. Aoxoamoxoa was their best studio album. I can't wait. You rock, dude!
This is awesome dude. I especially like the little cutout video of your face above the guitar because it makes you look like a funny little man with huge hands and a huge guitar.
Great stuff, thanks! Only FOTM guitar video I’ve seen that throws in the E chord… after all that’s why I think the B mixolydian works so well
Davvy is funny as hell and shreds! thank you!
Now that’s how you make “Bass & Apples” sonically interesting!🙏
Thank you for all of your videos. I have been watching a ton of them and I think your style of teaching is super refreshing! Plus, you are a real fan of the Dead. I think this is why I learn more from your channel than the others. I should of subscribed a long time ago!
Welcome to the family! Not sure if you’ve gotten it already, but I also offer a full video course on how I play guitar and the easiest way to view the fretboard for freedom when soloing and playing in general. It’s called the Golden Road course and it has helped a ton of heads get a grip on their playing. If you’re interested, just let me know! Cheers!
You took me to another level with this song. Thank you thank you thank you!
Happy to help John! Leave it to the dead to make a 2 chord song constitute a 25 minute lesson.
@@TobyDavvy question for you... shouldn't that be an A for the 5th note on that scarlet outro rather than a G# that you land on? I'm not trying trying to correct you by any means, but that's seems to be how jerry plays it. yeah it's late and I probably shouldn't be typing now, but wth. hope all's well with ya!
It’s very possible that I’m hitting something different. I’ll have to play with it a bit later and let you know. But regardless, you play what feels right to you, bro bro.
Thanks man!
great great lesson & inspiring - got me stoked! ((?). scarlet- fire one of my favorite songs ever! & btw dig yr playing & you gave me ideas on how to try to stsrt playing solos
Dude the keeley neutrino v2 I just got has some great Jerry auto wah sounds. Highly recommend it
You rock dude, this shit helped so much before practice tonight
the auto wha makes it sound like charlie browns teacher singing haha, and i must say they have a beautiful voice
Love the video man. Any way you could go into some of the Bob stuff he does during the scarlet outro? Haven’t been able to find an explanation on that anywhere.
My new fav channel. Here for the dead songs. How about some jgb. Let it rock. Don’t let go
Dude love your teaching style. I'm learning for a bit over a year now. An I'm 45. Lol
I know maj an minor, 7ths, in open, bar, know power chords on 6th an 5th . Trying to speed up changes between different styles of chords to become more proficient. And to learn rythum. So found you looking on songs I chill/vibe with. Also know a few scale patterns including the blues box house pattern.
But, I feel like I'm at a wall.. for finding rythum I feel like Steve Martin in the jerk where he can't clap to the rythum. Lol
I can do that but when Trying to learn to play songs I can't seem to find/follow a set rythum.
Lol
Thanks for your dead lessons man you do sound great
Do you usually practice with a metronome? If not I definitely would. Also watching some drum tutorials on time sigs, swing, and other rhythmic qualities (of which there are many) can be really helpful
Your too good
🔥
Thank you
I really wish you and me can get together to show me more about this stuff. I am so into this music and wish I could keep it alive. Dream of starting a cover band, but don't know where to start...
There are countless gd tutorials on youtube covering virtually every aspect of this stuff. If you want another channel to check out, stitch method is great
Love you too Davvy
Beavers and Advil........ You are a credit to your species.
Hey Davvy thanks for the great video and weird Cosby cameo. Do you have any lessons anywhere on how to work on the mixolydian scale? I'm a great rhythm player but I've been soloing with the same lame pentatonic blues scale since forever and I want to break out of that. Thanks man.
Hold up hold up.....just 18 seconds in...got my like sub all that...that is like the Les Paul of intros bruh.
Dude holy moly I have a super duper sick song request! If you're interested, I'm thinking "Fly Like an Eagle" - Steve Miller Band

Jesus tapdancing Christ that is one beautiful guitar! Just adding some support to this vid on your channel, and sending you some positivity! My envelope filter is a keeley neutrino, you ever mess around with one of those?
I'm doing well ty
Shout out to the looper! Another classic tutorial by Davvy, Im satisfied.
I’m pretty sure the 5th note of the scarlet outro melody should be an A, not D#
Lovely content by the way
I'm a new player and this might be really dumb, but when I look up a B and E chord it shows a different finger position and being played on the first and second frets. Whats the difference between that and the chords shown in this video?
Nice! Is there any chance a crazy finger, Stella blue, or franklin tower on the way?
Crazy Fingers and Stella Blue are on the docket for 2021. Franklins is being held for a special occasion when I will do a three part series on the whole Help/Slip/Franklins suite.
Heck yeah, stoked to hear crazy fingers is on the way. Looking forward to that one big time!
Qtron +automatic captions = “wow (music) wow”
plz tell me ur qtron settings
I’ve watched this so many times and don’t get the B to E part in the intro. Ike it looks like he’s just hitting the low E string but I don’t get it’. Help me out Davy boy,
Putting your face into your chest really helped me
Without it I couldn’t have been lost in your eyes
Fuck yes!
I feel like a sub par Dead fan for knowing about the other verses until I head Widespread Panic cover it in 2011, wish the Dead had actually sang them.
Did you have any delay going as well? Or just qtron?
No delay, just swimmmmmmmming in reverb. Ya boy likes it wet. Admittedly, when I started editing, I was like, “damn, that may be a bit too wet.”
@@TobyDavvy wet is best 4sho....ty for reply kind sir....yall need to come play little rock when the plague lifts...dont know if yall leave Tennessee much....but were just next door
Hell yeah, what venues around you host dead tributes? I’m in the middle of putting together a JGB project right now, and I definitely want to hit some cities that’ll have us
@@TobyDavvy sweeeeeet....in little rock...sticky fingerz and the rev room...the schwag frequently played the rev room.... they're both owned by the same people..... in Fayetteville (northwest Arkansas)...George's majestic or Dave's on dickson... or the AMP amphitheater
@@TobyDavvy if u ever find yourself in central Arkansas know that yall have a place to stay👍👍👍👍
IDK China Rider is so MF'ing good.
I know it is a super big hassle and stuff but it would be cool if you could tab out some of your solos for Peggy-o, Jackstraw, Fire, etc.... I one of those not so bright people who overpaid for a Mu-tron.......
I’ll think about it. I don’t have the most experience with tabbing out my own solos, any really. And they are all improv, so it kinda seems weird to me. But I am going to try to start giving you guys more specific ideas for solos and I will explain them more thoroughly. And hey, Mutrons are the best and if I could afford one, it’d be on my board.
Can’t find a straight answer on the fingering for some of there chords don’t know who to believe
"Bitches and Aardvarks"!
(~);} just found you today. I’m a drummer, not a musician, but I’m pickin a little. This could help. NFA
Hey Davey- Thanks so much for the toob! - They all look and sound ultra pro. You can tell you put a lot of time in. Question-
Before the chorded intro that you describe, Jer plays a short simple sequence of individual notes w his Mutron- (14:26) czcams.com/video/KVM9uu4mIcw-/video.html this repeats for a few bars before he gets into chords. I think?I can't get the hang of this, Any thoughts? If you get a chance.
Also, can you recommend a simple looper?
Thanks again -
I’ll see what I can do about that guitar line for you, and as far as a simple little looper, here you go LEKATO Electric Guitar Looper Effect Pedal Loop Pedal True Bypass Unlimited Overdubs 5 Minutes Looping Time Loop station with USB Cable www.amazon.com/dp/B07TYW1BD2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_H0MYFbRWEM0RN
“Bitches & Aardvarks”
:))))))))))))))
ahhhh here are the auto wahs envelope filters :)))
*plays an absolutely perfect solo* - "And that's just kind of like a regular lead"... Damn wtf. I think what you meant to say was "That lead just REGULATED"
Bitches and Aardvarks! Hahahahahaha!
Love his sense of humor, too many guitar teachers on CZcams are way too serious and boring
