I was thinking that, too! They all look way better now and are much more spirited and engaging. Sure, some of it may be the confidence that comes with age, but it's so great to see their beautiful 'real' selves without all that hideously unflattering 'Reality TV' editing.
more people should be like Oliver - you can correct someone's ignorance politely and with kindness. Sam is clearly not transphobic at all and regrets her immature thoughts when she was young and met Isis... idk why people are so quick to judge and "cancel" just because someone may not know the EXACT lgbt vernacular when describing trans individuals.. and i say this as a gay man who has heard a lot of ignorant things in my life. if someone has a good heart and is willing to learn, TEACH them instead of rejecting them - we don't get any allies by LEAVING THE LIVESTREAM (many people threatened to) if someone doesn't use the exact verbiage we want them to...
I hear where you are coming from and especially for the entertainment career Oliver plans on I appreciate how professional Oliver was in this moment. At the same time it should not be our responsibility as folks within the LGBTQI* to push through our triggers in order to make people who are actively harming us feel comfortable. It has been over a decade since Sam was on the show with Isis. If her priority was knowing it’s not appropriate to call trans women men she would have done that work in that time. We all can do better and should be working to get there. Canceling someone is not the same as rightfully acknowledging harm.

I don't understand why some people find Sam unlikable when I found her to be the COMPLETE opposite. Like she said, she was only 17 and I loved her fun, free-spirited, positive vibes back then AND now. Obviously she's still the same which meant she wasn't fake or edited too differently from who she actually is.
personally me I was just upset she sent home some of my favorites like Isis and Marjorie
To me she was just a plain old blonde All American girl during her season. She came off very average, this interview definitely has changed it. I think editing for her was different because this interview showed her in a brand new, more gritty and down to earth view than the “American Girl Next Door” pretty girl archetype.
Honestly, I was an Elina fan (though Elina's comments about Isis have dampened that since) and Sam made it seem like Elina hated her for no reason when the argument show was:
Sam made a slightly racist joke.
Marjorie gave Elina a look.
Sheena starts yelling at Elina.
Like...Sheena hating on Elina made sense. Sam should have been mad at Marjorie if anyone.
Because many times on the show she came off a bit ignorant, but she was very young so it's understandable.

I love Sam! I went to college a few years after this cycle with her. I was on the cheer squad and used to cheer for her team. Me and my friend used to say that she was so pretty! I had no idea she was the same girl from cycle 11. It was difficult to tell from all the wardrobe and makeup and bleached hair from the show. She’s beautiful in person!
This is one of the best interviews Oliver has done. She’s so charismatic and so fun to listen to. Her perspective on the show is fascinating. Whatta trip to finally get the behind the scenes scoop! And she seems the same as she was back then.
Her shoot with Tyra, the black and white shoot, the casual one, is one of my favorite photos in the history of ANTM

Oliver, the way that you corrected her trans terminology was masterful and so kind. That's such a great model for how to talk to others about difficult subjects without being a jerk about it.
Tyra's pizza story is so tired, I could probably recite it. Also, she stated on her talk show that it's only partially the reason she quit high fashion. That was the Naomi episode. Y'all know the rest. 😂😂

Lol production was angry that this season wasnt so dramatic and that was the reason why it was one of the best seasons because it was a fresh twist, besides the cast, the destination abroad was spot on and photoshoots were awesome as well, most of the photoshoots themes aged soooo well and are still in fashion right now.
They were upset too in cycle 5 cause the girls were boring 'til they warned them

When Sheena and Elina "fighted" because Sheena said Elina was being too introspective and serious and also she was mad just cause Elina won a Christmas publication for Seventeen when she isnt christian like lol. Those "fights" were so exagerated and over edited and you could tell they were totally fine the next week after all. 😂😂😂
In defense of the Natural Disaster Shoot! The styling was reflective of the era (Mod 60s) where giant monster movies were at their height! In fact, Attack of the 50 Ft Woman came out in ‘58 and would have still had traction into the 60s. They didn’t do a great job of communicating the influences of the creative, but I thought it was EXQUISITE and so inspired. But I didn’t know people hated that one?

Sam has the absolute best personality. This was such an excellent interview to watch! Admittedly I didn’t really watch her season, but this makes me want to track it down and binge watch it.
I love these interviews and I love how Oliver is able to educate in such a calm manor. You are a saint!
Interesting to note: This cycle I feel like had the tallest girls overall. Seven out of twelve of the girls were 5'11" or 6'0"

Thanks Oliver for doing these! Absolutely loved cycle 11 and the girls. On a side note thanks for helping Sam out with her terminology surrounding Isis' transitioning. I don't think Sam meant any harm, she was just using the wrong words and I appreciate not only you getting it right for those groups, but also not dragging or getting mad at her (as so many people are quick to do the latter these days).

Marjorie actually seemed so out of place in Amsterdam (personality wise, sure she looked European). She actually tried to buy train ticket with US dollars. She shook the designers on go-see by hand instead of kissed them on the cheek like an European. ( Sam actually was the only girl who did. I knew she did that to leave a good impression so she would have a better chance to get booked, but still I was impressed) Even the dutch judge was "like why you so shy and nervous all the time" to Marjorie. And she said she was like that because of her European up-bring. No, maybe because she was home school, maybe it's just her personality. There's nothing to do with her being european.

I know you gotta read your questions, but sometimes it's seems more than needed. No tea, no shade, please don't come for me people. I rarely remember the eleventh cycle, especially since by this time I had pretty much tuned out, however, Sam's interview was so eye-opening and honest, which I do love. Hers is right up there with Shandi and Amanda, and that is that. Not to mention, Sam's hair in this is so much more complimentary to her than the short blonde 'do.

There’s a difference between being shady and genuine; said that, Sam gave us a free class how to spill the T without being mean. Also, she is so so so funny! “Elina fought for animal rights wearing a leather jacket”. OMG LOL
It might have appeared as leather but could've been fake. Pleather can look like the real thing. I have a pleather jacket that looks just like a real leather jacket.
