You could have said the materials have come a long way since 1984, or the budget and time given to the original wasn't enough. Even basic lighting and cameras we have access to is better. They did the best with all the limitations they had. All valid points. but movement? The painted silicone used here could move if armature was built and the sculpt attached. I'd like to see that video made as I'm sure would many other.

If they did it today, they wouldn't use practical effects with any of the materials we have access to today, but CGI, and it would likely look even more fake.
