It’s really sad so many people are posting the chopped versions of some of these great songs. Santana suffers the same fate with their Woodstock performance. Sadly so many versions of many great songs on CZcams are chopped. The viewer is cheating themselves, not finding the full uncut version of these great performances.
Yes, the moment I saw the thumbnail, I cringed, because it is always so hard to watch people react to the chopped version! Makes me wonder if the person who requested the song gave them the link for the vid?
At any rate, they should have been given the "heads up" to find the right version. Anybody interested (and it should NOT be missed) can watch the entire 11+ minute performance by searching on YT for "Woodstock Ten Years After I'm Going HomeLive - CZcams". That is a copy&paste of the title of the vid, rather than posting a link.
As for the uncut Santana performance, the only place I have found the full uncut version is on the site "Daily Motion", easily googled. The person who uploaded it took it directly from the actual movie (director's cut), so it includes the amazing "split-screen" thing, that was one of the most unique things about the way the festival was filmed.

Saw this band several times and collected all their albums back in the day.
Alvin Lee sadly died a few years back, but the bass player - Leo Lyons - is still playing and touring and has his own CZcams channel too. A real gentleman who is so gracious to his fans too.
Ric Lee, the drummer, was considered as a replacement for John Bonham in Led Zeppelin until the remaining members agreed not to continue.
So much material and very varied too - for something very different try out “I’d love to change the world”. They started out quite jazz influenced, as well as blues and rock n roll. Very underrated, even today. Glad you found them, but as others have said this version is heavily cut / a real shame!
“BLUEST BLUES” - by Alvin Lee (leader of Ten Years After) . Fun fact: the slide guitar solo is performed by George Harrison. The outro solo is by Alvin Lee, who shows why he was a phenomenal, yet underrated blues guitarist.

YES!!!! A gorgeous piece. I keep forgetting that Alvin Lee was in TYA.
TYA is a great band to listen to. "50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain" is a song by them that a must listen to also.
Alvin Lee died in March 2013 after a small routine operation went wrong. He was on tour in Spain and had a couple of days off before continuing the tour with gigs in France and went into a Spanish hospital to have the surgery since it was no big deal and he would be out and about hours after. Except, something went wrong during the operation and he died. He was 68 and a true guitar legend. One of the best and fastest blues and rock guitarists ever to grace this Earth.
Alvin was a gift from god. R.I.P. ALVIN.🍉

Alvin Lee passed away in 2013 from surgical complications. I LOVE his solo song "The Bluest Blues" and of course 10 Years After's "I'd Love To Change The World" Great reaction!!
There were some great guitarists at this festival. Not only Alvin Lee but also Santana, Pete Townsend and Jimi Hendrix to name a few.
One of the greatest concerts I attended was Ten Years After. Bluest Blues is another great one by them.

If you want an index into how great a guitar player Alvin Lee was, just listen to the very beginning of this song when he starts playing, without the drums or bass chiming in yet.
There are half a million people in the audience of the Woodstock Festival in 1969. In the couple of lines of music he plays before the drums and bass chime in, you can actually hear in the background the sound of half a million people already clapping in time with the beat that Alvin Lee has established.
And yet he's playing notes so fast that you or I couldn't tell him which ones to emphasize or go easier on, or longer or shorter on, in order to establish the rhythm that this huge crowd instantly sensed and started clapping.
". . . had their own unique style." Exactly! In most cases, you may not have heard the song, but after a few notes you knew exactly who the band was! Thanks! Great to see another generation of music enthusiasts that can appreciate the timeless music a lot of us grew up with.

Yes this version is chopped. This was Woodstock where Alvin Lee Ten Tears After was known as the best performance of Woodstock.
Alvin Lee came up with the name 10 Tears After because it was 10 years after Elvis. If you listen to the song and lyrics you will hear they are Elvis songs.
Ten Years After are a British blues rock band from the 60s-70s. They had some great songs such as "I'd Love To Change The World", "Hear Me Calling", "A Sad Song", "Let The Sky Fall", "Love Like A Man", "Working On The Road" etc.

For me my right or super appreciated one = I could be wrong but I can not be not always Wrong. I don't think I write the title of the song not right but this (Live) is one of my favorite from TYA but even from the rest pf the industry of the rock and roll and blues song. I got to see Ten Years After twice in Miami back i the late 60's andbin around 1970. Always a great show. I also really like Leo Lyons the bass player. I enjoyed watching him play.
the 60's was a time of experimenting/pioneering music, lyrics and instruments , the evolution of Rock and Roll is an amazing journey if that is what you are interested in . Check out the ''roots'' music that eventually blend into Rock ..... like blues, folk, jazz and country ....
At Woodstock '69, every performer was very focused and wanted to make the best impression possible; they all played their souls out! Credit the sound engineers for "recording in the field," through rainstorms, 400,000 to 500,000 folks milling-about the field and equipment, helicopters coming-and-going, etc., and coming up with such great tapes -- video and sound! As others have suggested, search for the full version of Alvin making more funny faces and burning up the strings on his axe. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS GUY AND HIS BAND (10 YEARS AFTER) are not IN THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME???!!! It's an outrage!!! Same can be said about Mountain (and Leslie West), Steppenwolf (and John Kay), and so many more seemingly neglected by the rock & roll "cognoscenti," those folks SUPPOSEDLY "in the know" about the musical genre, but they're amazingly asleep at the wheel at times.
LOL The "rock & roll hall of fame" is a joke. Paul Rodgers, Boston, Mountain, Alvin..The list of non-inductees could blow out the modern "Hits" every day of the week. But hey, Dolly is there....LOL

You're right! All the top tier bands had their own distinct sound. Everything was new and experimental. Just as in cooking, you give ten people the same ingredients and you will come up with ten different results.

There were several great guitar spots that were cut out in this video but still a classic performance. The full performance would be seen in the Woodstock movie.
You are sooo correct. I grew up in this era and there were so many great bands. And no two sounded the same. When a song came on the radio even if it was new, you knew immediately who the artist was. Yes most artists had their own sound and feel. Genre is what they call it now. But for example, Southern rock, whether it was the Allman brothers, lynard skynyrd or Marshall tucker you knew who the band was immediately. And you knew what pink floyd sounded like. Or Carlos Santana. Or the eagles. Or led zeppelin. Or BTO. Or BOC. Alice cooper. Queen. David Bowie. To many to mention. They were all great and it was a smorgasbord of great music. And it was all different and unique. A great time for music.
Edited video - but it does capture his brilliance. Song is from the viewpoint of a soldier on a helicopter in Viet Nam, who has been injured - he knows he is truly "going home."
That is untrue. The helicopter is because of they were flown in to the woodstock concert area by helicopter as all the roads were blocked by traffic.
One of the reasons I saw Woodstock 14 nights in a row at the drive in, I own the 4 cds box set, dvd and several copies of the albums one is on Mexican vinyl. Sadly you just saw the short version. Got to see them in 1971, a riot broke out when they started playing Going Home. Jim
Watt is their best album and "i'm comin on" and "My baby left me" are for me the best of this group
Sadly, he passed in 2013. I was lucky enuf to see him back in the very late 90's. He was known to be the fastest guitarist ever. He was an amazing blues guitarist and is remembered that way by his fans. Check out "Help Me", or any other of his blues records. Thru his music he will live forever

I was probably one of the last people in California who got to meet him play my guitar for him and shake his hand all in about 19 minutes after his show 🎉
The British introduced the Blues to white middle-class Americans. Music that was played for decades "on the other side of the tracks". I'm from Mississippi and this, and other British bands, was my introduction to the blues.
I saw him 1980 when he opened for Kansas. So awesome!
My father used to make me mixtapes of the music he likes when i lived with my mother.. and this song was one of the ones that got burned really deep inside my mind, it uncovers very deep memories some twenty years later..❤

I have a story..back in 1970 something I was a hotel maid in Salt Lake Utah.. went in to clean a room and saw a bunch of musical instruments that said 10 Years After on them..cleaned the room.. knocked on the next room told to come in.. and entire band was in the room..all these long haired gorgeous men just sitting there.. I cleaned up a bit..incredibly nervous..they were nice ask me if i wanted to go to the concert that night and gave me tickets..but I could not get out of there fast enough..always a fan....

I had the luck to see him live in the 70's and 80's, Alvin like Rory Gallagher was a full on performer and just brilliant live, rest in peace Alvin.

The American vibe to me is that it’s very Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley style of 50s guitar rock. Even a little Les Paul buried in there. Always amazes me how EVERY band seemingly had a guitar shredder. He’s rarely mentioned in the top 50 or even 100 but this is one of the best recorded live guitar performances I’ve ever seen and I’ve known it for 40+ years. This is the short version lol. His energy is boundless.

I thought I would suggest another new duet to check out, if interested. "Loggins & Messina -Sittin' In Again Live - Peace Of Mind" (by the channel: Kimske84) --Loggins & Messina was an American pop rock duo who achieved major success in the 1970's. Their gernes covered country-rock, folk-rock, pop-rock, and soft-rock. Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina would go onto to having stellar solo careers as well. So, lots to check out in future.

I'm from USA and and old enough to have been at Woodstock and thought this band was from the US. I don't know when this song was written but it is very much in the style of 50s American rock.

Going home by helicopter was because the traffic was so bad that it was the only way the musicians could arrive and leave. This is the short version. The fastest guitar player in the west. ❤❤❤❤Lee died on 6 March 2013 in Spain. He died from "unforeseen complications following a routine surgical procedure" to correct an atrial arrhythmia. He was 68. His former bandmates lamented his death.

Unfortunately, that's a pretty chopped up version and a lot has been cut out. It should run for over 9 minutes. If you can't find a full cut then look for the version on their Undead album, it's about as long as this version but at least it's coherent and doesn't sound like it was edited by a suit.

Do yourselves a favor and listen to the WHOLE original song from the Woodstock album or movie. These videos are horribly chopped up and shortened. Alvin said one of his mentors was Scotty Moore who played for Elvis Presley. Alvin said he learned everything he needed to know about playing guitar from Scotty. Alvin later went to Tennessee and recorded an Album Alvin Lee in Tennessee. It is a GREAT album. I think Scotty was with him in the studio but unable to play due to hearing issues.
Unfortunately, so many of the videos of these iconic Woodstock performances are truncated, as if the editors are trying to save the listener from some part of the performance they deem unimportant or expendable: the same dynamic is visible in some of the Santana "Soul Sacrifice" cuts and Jimi Hendrix's set, both at Woodstock. It's a shame for modern listeners. Ten Years After's set did for them what The Who's set did as well - it made them overnight superstars and put the late Alvin Lee up there with the other guitar gods of the era: Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Townshend, etc. I hope you get to watch or listen to the whole performance at some point. Love your reactions.

Proper sloppy rock and roll. A vastly underrated band. To my mind this ranks as the second best performance of Woodstock after Santana. Both quality.

Alvin Lee and Rory Gallagher were both fabulous guitarists and I have a soft spot for both of them but Rory had his very own sound and was much more versatile and influential. I saw them both live and both of them gave their "all". Great days! P.S. Listen to Brian May reminisce about R.G.
