Babe wake up, new Ultimate Persona Compendium video just dropped
i think making the female protagonist more bubbly was a bold and honestly genius choice. it firstly reflects how two different people can have different perspectives of the same world. secondly, mortality and death are universal concepts. it's not something that "happy" people are magically excluded from.
17:20 him being so drunk that he thinks of you as his son, man or woman, seems pretty reasonable in both cases. That's probably why they kept it like that and just acknowledged how confused he was after
One thing to note about Kotones general demeanor early on is that it at least for me is a lot more relatable.
Not everyone becomes an edgelord when confronted with the idea of their own mortality. Some people just kinda start... drifting. On the outside there's not much wrong or stressful at first, but on the inside it can really eat away at you and while it seems like youre a social butterfly, a lot of exchanges can still feel very transactional and without deeper meaning. P3Ps femc route does handle that arc of actually getting deep bonds quite well in my opinion.
Makoto isn’t an edgelord he’s just apathetic and doesn’t understand why people are afraid to die, this changes during the game and he sacrifices himself to pay them back for what they’ve given him essentially. I haven’t played Kotones route but I assume she changes to stop hiding her true self or something similar
This came out so much faster than I had ever imagined. I love this series and I'm so excited for this analysis video
Even with the presentational downgrades and the upcoming Reload looking to blow Portable out of the water, P3P holds a lot of nostalgia for me. It is probably the game I put the most time into on my PSP. It felt really cozy for me to play between college classes, so I kinda associate this version of the game with that part of my life. As a female fan of the series, I also really appreciated the option to play as a female character since, as dumb as it sounds, it helped me connect to the world and the story a bit more. While I am super excited for Reload, this version will always hold a special place in my heart for those reasons.
I had once read that the two protagonists represent different aspects of The Fool.
With "Makoto" being 0 and "Kotone" being XXII. It can be seen deliberately in the design of the female protagonist, with her barrettes forming the Roman numeral XXII.
Is there any significance in this difference of The Fool between the two?
Perhaps in a meta sense, Kotone having The Fool card at the end of the deck represents that every ending is also a new beginning. Since players will probably play her route on their second playthrow (or after already playing Persona 3/ Persona 3 FES).
Portable has a lot of mirrored/flipped aestethics in regards to the two protagonists. Them being on opposite ends of the fools journey is also a theme for their different starting and end points.
Im not that versed on tarot symbolism to go any deeper, but maybe this sheds some insight.
I believe it also states this at the beginning of P3P when you select Kotone, that it is intended for people who have already played Persona 3 previously, essentially meaning that she is meant as your second playthrough and not your first.
It's so ironic that Ken's social link is the "Justice" arcana in the female route in particular...
Come on, you can't expect me to not shed a tear when Shinjiro says “I'm glad I met you”.
snickety you amazing man. i finished all the episodes yesterday and thought i would have to wait a while, and then boom, you dropped. thank you 🙏🏾
P3P was my entry to the series and it have many flaws, but the more streamlined experience definitely help eased my _"never played a real JRPG before in my life"_ self back then immersed in the story and the dungeon crawling + life sim hybrid mechanics wrapped around my head easier.
Also I just really like FeMC's design, music, color theme in the UI, and especially her character interactions.
I was so excited for this! I enjoy your videos so much!
The one and only Mr. SnicketySlice has uploaded another legendary video. Thank you, sir!
No way i just finished watching all the others and the next is uploaded within the hour, thats some epic timing
Great video! I love Theo's reaction to Mara :D.
dude, what you say at 16:48 was so good, never would had thought of that fact. Made me feel "Damn so cool" feels :)
I aprecieate you making those
So many people dying on the ground!
Thank you once again for these~
Please keep it up ^^
Just finished watching this well made video
OMG IT'S HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LET'S GOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Atlus really doesn’t want you to move on to P4 huh?
Are you planning on giving Reload a go before moving to P4?
FINNALLY A NEW VIDEO IN THE PERSONA COMPENDIUM SERIES WHAT TOOK SO LONG!!!!!!
@@SnicketySlice but like before those 2 months you didn’t post one for a long time right?
I do hope we get a version of storyline somehow someday on a more easily accessible port.
Always thought it would have been better if this was a vita game but what we have is……..interesting
lets go dude
My prayers are answered! Ultimate persona compendium just dropped!
Apperently the reason we got a port of Portable instead of the original FES was because the files for FES used an older PS2 Engine that's not supported anymore (I forgot it's name, but you can probably find it if you look it up). So even if they wanted to, they wouldn't be able to port it like they did with Persona 4 Golden. 😔
On the cusp of a new version haha. The cycle never ends it seems
The recent ("recent" since it's been a year and a half now) hate for this game has always baffled me, because back when I played the game, people were generally pretty civil about both games.
As it is, P3P obviously has its flaws but it's still a pretty solid edition of the game that has its own unique strengths as well. Just my two cents though as someone who has played both FES and Portable :)
I’m guessing it’s due to it being the only way to play the old version of the game on current gen systems. Why would they let the handheld port be the only one available? Now people are bashing it unfairly because of it.
@@kaylemathewcomendador6964 Persona 3 FES wouldn't be able to be ported without a ton of effort anyways. It's no secret that Renderware is a dead engine, and the PS2 had unique hardware that does not reflect the direction that modern hardware developed in.
Besides, Persona 3 Reload is out anyways. At this point, if you don't like either game, you're already going to have the knowledge to emulate Persona 3 FES anyways.
@@_ace_defective_ Yeah, but I think P3P was ported to modern systems a decent while before Reload was announced which might explain the extra backlash at the time. I encountered a let’s player saying in a video before Reload was announced saying he had to resort to emulating FES due to P3P being the only one available at the time.
Reload looks like it's going to be really awesome, the one thing that has me kind of disappointed is that the Female route won't be included.
Watch them release a second edition or DLC. It's the Atlus Megaten method. Gotta release those Maniax editions.
Thankfully they've decided to focus on additions that actually look good and are not just half-baked fanservice.
Agreed. I like Minako WAY better as a protag. Her story is more interesting to me. Especially because Minato was already clearly depressed. Him willing to die for his friends felt predictable. But Minako keeps the depression inside (as many girls do) so her willingness to die is more stark and bittersweet. But that's my opinion.
@@IceQueen975Nice head canon, but she is just a cutesy avatar and a poor representation of the game's themes. Plus the color pink sucks for P3.
@@crithitjaceNah, they wouldn't do that for a game that's already a fourth attempt. They'll just make it DLC.
It sucks Kotone is stuck in P3P. Unless she's in a special edition of Reload, it still sucks especially when they made such a big deal over how much she mattered in Q2.
I kinda hope in P6 or a future persona game we get the ability to have multiple different people represent an arcana. So maybe it could be like a choice like in Persona 4 for the Sun, which could honestly make the games feel even more individualized for each playthrough
Or
Maybe we go back to the first persona evolution for party members being triggered by a story event and then you have the option of either maxing out their social link for their ultimate later on at the end of the game or choosing a different non party member social link that gives you crazy benefits
Ngl I’m kinda glad I decided not to play Portable when it released on Xbox Game Pass. I would have a much better first-time experience when the remake comes out.
I haven't watched this video yet as I plan on watching the UPC series from the very beginning (for like the 4th time lol) so I don't know if this has been answered, but are you planning on delaying the Persona 4 video until you play P3 Reload and make an analysis video on it or will that come at a later date?
Just in time for the remake to come out. I have never played P3 so i can definetly say it will be an experience and i really wonder how much or how little they have changed. Or if its a carbon copy of the journey.
Does this mean you're delaying the next part until you can play through the new remake, or rushing out Persona 4 before you need to review it?
If they make a latest version of Reload
As in Portable
Once the protagonist has been chosen, the other is a Sees member with new personas and exclusive confidant or Hanged Man and Temperance or alternative versions of other Arcana
I would have given you rhythmic or artistic gymnastics as a third sport, if He is in a bathing suit for the pool, She in a leotard?
Note that He always has Portable confidants
or two versions like the Pokémon games
What’s the name of the song you use in the intro?
Will the remake or persona 4 be next?
How the hell did I miss this
Oh, are you going to do P3RE first? Or move on to P4?
Also, I do wish Ken was not romancable. Remove that and his social link is fine, showing a more familial brother-sister bond which is very sweet.
Regarding the difficulty: Pretty much all lambasts toward the difficulty in this video are all additions of current-gen ports of the P3P. Actual PSP version did not allow switching or customizing difficulty, you picked it at the start and that's it, Maniac also took away any NG+ benefits you had too. No infinite retries of the same battle, naturally, you still had limited number of Plumes of Dusk on Easy and Beginner (and I had a friend that ran out of them on Beginner due to completely neglecting grinding and using Plumes as a crutch, which bit him in the ass when he saved himself into an impossible situation, being around level 30 up against Hanged Man). Notably, the one Plume you got from Elizabeth's request was cut. Restart from the floor you died wasn't present in any way even on Beginner, if you died without Plumes, you got booted straight to the main menu as you usually would.
Mind you, the ability to resume Tartarus exploration from the highest floor you reached WAS in the PSP version, as were the near axing of Fatigue (good riddance, it'd say) and changes to gameplay to make it more P4-like. Fusion Spell changes I'm pretty sure were made to nuke Armageddon/Victory Cry combo from orbit, it snapped what was left of the game except for Elizabeth in half.
5:15 😂 I dunno why it made me laugh so hard.
An unexpected entry, but not unwelcomed! I got an hour to burn so LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Boy do i wonder how long it would take for you to catch up this series lol
Persona 6 might already be out by then 😂
Surprised there aren't any portraits of someone dying on the ground while holding a gun /lh
MY DAUGHTER HAS ARRIVED!!!!!
15 second gang. I happened to be staring at my screen lol
The only thing I can say about P3P is that I am really glad I got to play P3FES. I am curious about the extra stuff in P3P, but I honestly don't feel like playing it just for that, and as you mentioned it doesn't feel like a definitive version of the game either.
All I wanted was a proper port of FES, but they made Reload instead... and I have really mixed feelings about it. Not to mention that I can't even see it on steam because they outright blocked my region (LATAM) for whatever reason.
Oh hey 👋
Yeah, but we got Way of life out of it.
i always interpreted femc as bi curious which is why i hated how her hermit SL ended
honestly, it would've been much better if P3P just ran on P2P's engine.
I don't have high expectations for Reload, but I'd be happy if it can pleasantly surprise in some aspects.
Yeah, i was wondering the same thing at the beginning of this video, as you presented at the end, how in the hell are you going to handle the new remake :P
So the PSP remake... Yeah with it's release on PC, i pass from "Oh this is cute, i prefer the original PS2 version outside of gameplay still, but cute" to "I hate you, why are you taken as the definitive version of this game, you were suppose to be the fun, cute one, not the definitive version of this game". And now with the remake, im still, the same, because suppose that i don't like the remake (A few stuff i have seen left me mixed), now i can't officially support Atlas PS2 version of this game, no, im force to use the pirate route... See this is why im more in the mentally of pirate something first, if it's good throw it money... Because Companies first screw on you and then hope you just give them the money now days.
First comment
Another video down, another step closer to Persona 5
My most hated thing about the male route is the forced relationships. Ew. What were they thinking taking away a player's choice like that.
Femc is one of the most useless additions to the game. Almost every single aspect of the game is worse on her route. Aside from the downgrades from moving to psp from console.
She's gassed up for being "different" and yet she ends up making the story and message of the game worse. I'm glad she's not in Reload
It's all good. Her route brought great music, better social links, and just a different way to experience p3. Male MC's canon route isn't affected by any means (Fem MC's just a what if).
My interpretation of the two protagonists having such different personalities is that they each learned to cope with the loss of their family in opposite ways. Makoto became emotionally distant and closed out the rest of the world, whereas Kotone puts on a cheerful, bubbly facade while secretly bottling up all of her sadness and grief.
Exactly this.
Yeah i have the same interpretation. But Makoto being emotionally distant and not caring about life is because of Death being inside of him influencing him... As the game goes on it becomes the opposite where Makoto influences Death instead
