My favorite part of this figure is seeing that they fully concealed the back wheels in his leg. It's something that felt entirely locked to masterpiece style, so it almost feels unreal to see it in a commander class (even though it's probably very simple).
Yeah, if you notice the silver bits on the side are connected to a panel that definitely has red on it.
I have a feeling that that just rotates around and the wheels flip out.
and that's the one thing i hate about this figure. i hate it when designs hide vehicle stuff.

To play a bit of devil's advocate, a big reason MP-44 has a huge backpack is because he has an electronic sounds box that has to go in there
Still, this looks better than I thought it would from the initial piano image leak. Really surprised there's no battle damage swappable pieces though, considering you could rip 86 Magnus apart if you wanted

We got Titan Master compatibility with Haslab RID Optimus in the fire ladder bucket and now we see it on roller. I really like the dedication to making all Generations toys feel welcome together

That "just one scene in one episode" was cut into the OP for the Japanese broadcast, and Convoy even whips it out in time with the "YOU CAN FIGHT! TRANSFORMER!" lyric at the beginning of the chorus.
It's like asking "Why does the King Loader have engineering to allow Exkizer to haul it in car mode?" Because it's a massively iconic shot from the OP that played in front of every darn episode of the show, as well as a scene or two within one episode (in Exkizer's case it's the one where Dinogeist finally gets out of his cave to personally steal a cruise ship, iirc).
I literally just pre-ordered him right as I got this notification.
It would have been cool to get an extra grill piece to have one with thrusts reflection but good figure overall a lot better then what most people were expecting

Actually, Evan Brooks has a slide show showing some of the transformation. When the hand is flipped into the arm there’s a small peg that the axe will connect onto.

Probably has been commented already, but the only reason MP-44 has that backpack is because Takara seems obsessed with electronics, and that's where they put it on Prime. 3rd party MP scale Primes have next to no backpack with the Magic Square Prime's back being straight up toon accurate.
Yeah, MS-02EX is by far the best OP. And it's faaaar cheaper than official MP-44 at around $120.
This Prime will be a definitive figure for years to come
23:07 I do feel most the backpack is because of the shoehorned in voicebox gimmick. If they didn't have that, the backpack could be FAR cleaner, hello Magic Square Light of Peace.
Okay here's what I noticed:
-The only part of the cab stored in the legs is likely the part behind the wheels. That part is painted red blue plastic, but it might have a but more reaching around it.
-The backpack looks like it has a lot of engineering similar to SS38 and SS102 where the grill and bumper folds up and in on itself to make a back.
-The arms look like they will reverse transform, with the arm rotating at the bicep and having the back of the arm face up in truck mode
-I'd say the likelihood of removable hands is low, with the arms opening up to flip them in in exchange for a peg, like SS86 Hot Rod's Buzzsaw hand
My assumption was the hands would be like the studio series 86 hot rod with how your open the arm and turn them to attach like the saw, but instead for the axe this time

He’s legitimately perfect. He has the articulation. He’s got real chest windows and a real grille. He has the Matrix chamber. He has a functional trailer AND ROLLER. I don’t think there will ever be a need for a Generations G1 show-accurate Optimus again…
… and that’s the problem.
He is so accurate that he makes all the oddities of the other hyper-Sunbow figures from 2020-onward stand out all the more, and I guarantee you that HasTak is going to use this guy, A-Level Bumblebee and next year’s 86 Megatron as an excuse to reset the scale of everything again. All so they can get things even more accurate to a cartoon that couldn’t even be accurate to itself. Granted, Trailbreaker, Cliffjumper, Kup, and the Seekers are all deserving of redos, but things like Springer and Arcee just emphasize how ridiculous this pursuit of perfection have gotten.
There will never be a figure that’s 100% animation accurate, especially not within current budgets. Personally, I’m over the complaints about certain figures (mainly Legacy Bulkhead or Evo Shadow Striker) not being accurate enough. If it’s a good figure, it’s a good figure. PERIOD.
I started collecting during Combiner Wars and Titans Return, so I may be a bit more partial to those weird kinda accurate figures that were more fun as toys. I love the current design team to death, but dang it, it feels like they’re terrified of another “Prime Universe” controversy happening because they tried to make non-traditional designs fit the current Generations aesthetic better. Just because something looks cool onscreen doesn’t mean it’s going to function well as a toy (don’t believe me? Look at every toy made of the AOE/TLK cast; they’re great designs but have STRUGGLED in toy form).
But I feel Prime fans’ pain. It sucks that every RID 2015 figure has been a retool up to this point. It’s time that the rest of the franchise gets the same love that Sunbow’s gotten from 2019 to now, and the best way to do that is to sunset the Sunbow stuff with SS86 Optimus-tier redos that end Hasbro’s need to pursue redoing the 1984-1986 guys in the show style.
From there, the show cast can get fresh reinventions akin to those found in Classics, Universe 2 and pre-2015 Generations. Let the non-Sunbow guys shine for a change. Give the generations who grew up with Beast Wars, Beast Machines, RID 2001, the Unicron Trilogy, Animated, Prime, RID 2015, Rescue Bots, Cyberverse, EarthSpark, and whatever comes next reminders of why they fell in love with these silly robots.
Transformers is a franchise with change at its core. It’s just a shame that Hasbro and Takara refuse to let it move past its first three and a half years.
I thought this prime used a faux grill? At what part of the video was this mentioned? Cause this is great news all around then!
It’s not part of the video, but the grille doesn’t look fake to me- looks the same in both modes, just like the windows. It ain’t doing the Magic Square Light of Freedom thing I wanted this to, but a lack of faux parts is something I welcome.

The thing about the mp44 backpack is that it was proven to be completely unnecessary. It was the size it was to contain the voice electronics.
Which is why the KO mp44s actually have virtually no backpack since they omitted the electronics.

MP-44 has a voice box in its backpack. That's why its so big, but for KO MP-44's without the voice box have the same looking backpack's as ss86 optimus.
I never upgraded from my siege prime, and I held back on earthrise specifically because I KNEW that this would be released one day, a few years later and im honestly so exited, I preordered as soon as possible

There might be a chance that they could release a dead Optimus later on with this mold, either it is going to come with the trailer or his death bed, but more than likely still priced the same.

Got back into transformers a couple years ago when I picked up a core class sound wave just for nostalgia. Got absolutely sucked in and been goin pretty hard ever since. Haven’t gotten any Optimus yet so I’m really REALLY looking forward to this one
I never thought ER Prime was too small until I saw this one, and it just looks so much more right size wise. Hopefully we don’t have to wait to much longer until we see a new Megatron to go with him
The backpack isn't a big deal, and it's technically accurate. Even in the Skybound comics he has a big backpack for a more current comparison.
Yeah the Skybound comics made me realise how big G1 Prime's backpack really is, if anything Earthrise was way too skinny.
fingers crossed for an Ecto-45 Edition release or something because the proportions match Optimus in the GB x TF comic due to that version also being based on the toon model
I've thought about it and had a realization as to why the Energy Ax shows up all the time just makes sense. Remember when we first got it? It was a Takara initiated accessory for a G1 reissue. So why would Takara pick that? Look at the theme song for their dub of G1: They used footage from More Than Meets the Eye for it, so the shot of Optimus and Megatron deploying their energy weapons wasn't a one episode thing in Japan-- it was something they saw every week, every time the show started!
A comparison that really put things into perspective is when talking about 3P. Magic Square and Newage did two wonderful Optimus prime figures +trailer in legends scale for more than 100 buck at release. The commander has pretty much all the same features as them but having 10 times more mass, and it is 90 bucks.
While the trailer might just be a pretty rolling box, the figure itself is doing stuff at an insanely high level, I just can't think of any other figure in CHUG that is this perfect in both modes
So far as looking at him in first glance, I think He's going to be the most up to par Figure thus far as far as Retail goes these day. Literally the only thing I have a gripe with this figure is the Matrix chamber, it's Because its the lack of paint in the chamber and the Lid for closing on the matrix is a dull grey color. But other than that, the figure is amazing.
Thanks for the headsup about the blast effects. I'm storing mine away. There was only a little damage to the barrel of Siege Magnus' gun where some of the paint came off, but it proves the point.
What's sad is that ten years ago you could have got mp10 for the same price

Regarding price, I think it’s very much a question of whether you’re in the market for a new definitive Prime. If you are, you’re going to be hard pressed to find anything better or even equivalent for much less. Particularly now that after-market prices are in full effect for the Earthrise mold; and if you want a proper trailer. If you already have a Prime you’re happy with though….its an easy skip.
Personally I haven’t bought a prime since they first reissued the G1 molds, so I think I might end up getting this one.
Magic Square make a legends scale Optimus Prime that in my opinion looks much better than the 86 version and is cheaper. And if you don't care about the trailer you can get it for even less. $80 for MS-B46A and $45 for MS-B46

This time last year, I was freaking out about Ultra Magnus! Now, I'm freaking out about what could be the best Hasbro Optimus Prime!
My only issue with the bot mode is the 2 cuts on the stomach that does put me off a bit, feel like the grill plate could have been bigger to fill up the space instead of having the gray and red part of the waist being segmented.

Honestly, I feel most commanders and titan boxes should be kept. Just because of the artwork, stats (for the ones with them) and easier to store if you're moving them.
Now I feel bad for customizing my earthrise Optimus. Those legs were such a eyesore

At least it doesn't look like the knees have that gear system that can break under normal use! I htink the VNR Opty still has the best head sculpt, though.
This looks great! Hope they use this mold for Nemesis Prime and the cab of Ultra/Delta Magnus.
I love the size and added articulation, but I will confess that I like the deck and some added details, like the inside of the chest where the matrix is, on the earth rise one.
I do think he’s a good looking Prime…but I just don’t know if he’s really that much better than the Earthrise Prime to necessitate the upgrade. Unlike what a lot of people have been saying lately, I still think ER Prime is a fantastic Prime.
For me the butterfly joints and especially the much cleaner truck bed alone makes this a straight upgrade to me.
I still like ER Prime (the transformation for the upper torso/cab section especially is damn good), but that half-arsed-looking truck bed is still absolutely hideous to look to me, second only to the ROTB SS truck bed in ugliness.
Whether that's a factor for you though, it's all up to you ofc!

Seeing this kind of gives me some thoughts on what they can do with 86 Megatron. Part of the budget will go to making him scale with 86 Optimus, but I do see Hasbro including the energon mace/flail, the laser sword, the gun he used to mortally wound Prime... and a gun mode Megatron accessory that other toys can wield.
Make him a 1:1 recreation of Devastation Megatron and you’ve got a deal. If they’re able to get Optimus this clean-looking at Commander budgets, who’s to say they can’t do a non-G2 tank Megatron who actually pleases the fandom for not having tank kibble hanging off his person at Leader budgets?
@@EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho Maybe not entirely that but close enough to sell it in a year or two as Gamer Edition Devastation Megatron. The new Megatron toy to be used and abused at least as much as Siege Megatron.
All they can do with an S86 Megatron is LIE, because a mass-market gun alt mode will never exist again. I'm fine with Megs having another alt mode, but that's not how he was in the 1986 film so by definition it does not belong in the Studio 86 line.
The hands don't pop off as far as I can tell.
They fold away into the forearm and there's a peg on the other side that the axe plugs into.

i dont wanna defend takara on the backpack, even with the electronics, since magic square did a better rendition, but i do think that the backpack in the new commander class is pretty well done specially at this price point

One accessory I was hoping they were going to include to get that Commander price point was a second, slightly larger Matrix intended for holding. If possible even have some sliding mechanism for it to open. The Matrix we've been getting the last several years looks great and works well for the figures with a chest compartment for it, but it never looks right when you want them to hold it for the "light our darkest hour" pose.
I need good modern versions of the transformers prime versions of Optimus and Megatron. The siege one, is just going to be repurposed for a “Starscream taking over the Decepticons”
Personally, I don't care if they are boxes that dpn't do anything other than serve as storage for other figures, a semi truck without a trailer just looks wrong, so any Optimus that comes with a trailer will automatically be a win for me.

If i were in the market for an animation accurate Prime, I'd be thrilled. This makes me very hopeful for Megatron.
I bet later, they will make a death Prime in this mold.
I think the things that we need to remember that budget only goes so far. If you want all the bells and whistles, go get the MP. It's the same old agrument everytime and I think it's getting silly where its always is it worth 90 dollars? I think all of the Commanders have been so far, or they wouldn't be £91.99 at all. They'd be Leaders or less. Or do we want a price point between Commander and Titan to guarantee all the extras and the perfect look, etc? But isn't that what MP is? The Commanders all have that something extra that elevates them from the norm, but with smaller figures that are boosted up by engineering or accessories, the question is always raised. It's the same with triple changers or any figure that is scaled at one size, but to get what it needs is in the next price point. It's an argument that has really worn on me now. Same with Haslab. Is it worth 250 pounds? If you dont think so, then dont bug it. But for the most part, we get as much as they can do at the price point, and again, if you dont think this is worth it, go MP instead and get the perfection you are chasing.
I don't care about the backpack this figure is perfect I know people are yapping about the backpack but this same people will be gushing over the figure once they get their hand on it because it happen before with ultra magnus
Also the backpack is actually on-model with G1 Prime's bulkiness, I feel too many people forget how chonky G1 Prime's torso actually is supposed to be because of the deathly-thin Earthrise toy.

I just noticed this evening from the pic of the trailer standing up that it has sculpted detail of the command chairs in the g1 Prime trailer. Sneaky Hasbro...lol
It looks great. It just really sucks we will never be able to get a screen accurate Megatron to match it and have to settle for Tankatron.
Hey now, if they’re able to pull off this engineering wizardry with Optimus, I’m excited to see what they’ll do with Megatron. All I ask for is a Devastation-style Megatron in SS86, and this gives me hope they’ll be able to make him as foldy and twisty as he needs to be to hide away the tank parts.

Besides, Megatron should never be designed as if he's ashamed of his alt mode, he should own those tank parts like the Cyber Battalion/amazon Heroes & Villains 2-Pack Megatron.

the thing about the map backpack is that it as batteries and electronics that it has to account for. we’ve seen 3rd part legends class primes that have done away with the massive back pack too. i’m still picking up this figure but it’s always so interesting when 3rd party legends sometimes have better engineering than even some mp figures
If you can't sell that Optimus Prime that is scuffed, I'd like to buy it. I've been wanting to do a Toxitron in that mode.

I'll be getting this Optimus Prime. He'll look so nice next to my other ones. I have nearly 40 (including fast food toys). Though I'm down 2 Primes because someone threw out some of my figures when they were helping clean my room after a natural disaster 🤬. What a great looking figure.

To be honest mp-44 was designed to have a voice box, you will have to go for other third party toys that made masterpiece Optimus with much cleaner an accurate back
I find it cool that the grey on his toes and the grey with lights and tiff on the heals when folded up makes rear bumper

27:55 I feel if there’s a battle damage version of SS86 OP mold? It might exclude the trailer. I’d expect it to be in regular colors rather than full on gray again. That particular iteration’s been done. No one is really clamoring for a new one, insofar as I’m aware.
It would be far more enticing to purchase a colorful battle damaged Optimus Prime for, like, 60 USD. Have only the gun and axe as accessories.
Matrix too, I guess. Feels like they’re treating each release like it’s the only one one might get. If that were the case, I’d be bummed I missed out on a matrix of leadership.

I'm pretty sure you can just use some Bandai Gundam stand, most of them like the action bases and the stage act have the 3mm peg.
The MP is a bit heavy for most of them I guess, But I've used several of these stands for my Generations toys and they hold up fine.

I've preordered this under the assumption that DNA Designs will probably make an upgrade kit for it.
I’m pretty sure you could get that iconic standing outside the shuttle pose to look right just by using the right lens and a slightly different angle. You need to fake the enormous size of the robot on screen and a lot of toy photography fails at this. At least in official product shots.
I'm still debating whether to get this one or MP10-V.
I just need to see some truck mode comparisons and some group shots of both with other Autobot cars.
Only thing I like MP44 more is the longer faceplate and even that is a 'it changes from scene to scene' thing.

The only big problem with this Prime IMHO is that he's boring. It's just a G1 cartoon Prime. Earthrise had all these lines and stuff. It was like a cool update to a classic character, while keeping the elements, which made him the same. This guy is great, but I don't feel like chasing this figure down.
Looks great, does it do enough to warrant commander class price? Hard to say but had to get one now rather than from a scalper later.
