アーケード版としては2作目となる横スクロールアクションゲーム「ゴールデンアックス」の続編。前2作からキャラクターが一新され、レバーとボタンの組み合わせで出せる必殺技が「回転アタック」「ダッシュアタック」そして同時プレイ時に可能となる「サイクロンアタック」と増え、「システム32」の性能により魔法のビジュアルも大幅に強化されている。また最大4人までの同時プレイが可能となり、ステージ途中には進行コースに分岐点が登場。全5ステージで、分岐を含めると総計7ステージとなる。
ストーリー:
剣と魔法で邪悪なモンスターと闘ったマジカルファンタジー「ゴールデン アックス」。その物語が伝説になった時代に、またもや不気味なモンスターたちが地上を支配しようとしていた。スタンブレード、ドーラ、ゴア、リトル･トリックスの4人の戦士は、人々を苦境の中から救うために、新たなるヒーローとして闘いに挑もうとしていた。彼らの活躍で、再び世界は平和を取り戻せるか。

Like it's legendary prequel, 1989's "Golden Axe"; 'Revenge' is sideways scrolling beat-em-up set in a traditional fantasy world, in which the evil 'Death Adder' has arisen to take over the lands. The game supports simultaneous four-player gameplay, with each player taking on one of the game's characters. The four available characters are 'Sternblade' (a barbarian warrior), 'Dora' (a female centaurian), 'Goah' (a giant with a dwarf sitting atop his shoulders) and 'Little Trix' (an agile, oriental-style warrior).

It's a shame Sega never tried to port this to the Sega Saturn. It's a great game and the Saturn REALLY needed stuff like this in the US.

Great playing of a game I loved back in the days of simple yet fun games. They never had a chance dealing with you.
This game is just like the combination of “Red Sonja” and “Jason and the Argonauts.”
best Golden axe during childhood
I noticed some of these sound effects were from Rambo First Blood.
1. Enemy Death scream (1:42 )= Rambo stabbing Mitch in the forest.
2. Death Adders fall ( 33:50 )= Galt falling out of the helicopter.
Yes most of them are from movies. Most from Conan The Barbarian & Conan The Destroyer. Where the woman screeches Yaaaaaaaaaa that is Grace Jones character in Conan The Destroyer where she tries to fight Wilt Chamberlain's Bombata character.
Pitchfork guy stabbing the barbarian in the junk and elbowing the giant in the junk at the same time, while the bottomless centaur girl is cheering. CLASSIC.
Always remebered that ride on skeleton dragon being very OP, point proven again :)

Here is something you didn't know, you can walk across the broken bridge when riding one of those beast, you can walk on the high cliff straight when riding the beast, don't bring the joystick down you will fall over😂 no really you will, you can walk across the dungeon holds when riding the beast, you however cannot walk across the chop down tree in the forest cliff nor the squid pop up in the ship with any beast😨

If you play the full game you can get the top rank. I have gotten the top rank on a 1cc run with Trix on an actual arcade machine.

Tbh, the arcade was way better and slightly more difficult. The game is too easy, the bosses don't even put up a fight. You can easily avoid the charge, and then they're vulnerable....too easy.
The only thing I don't like about this game is not being able to play as Gilius and Tyris. I mean, get off of this guy's back and fight by youself, damn dwarf! X D
