I actually did know this thanks to a Mythbusters episode I watch a while back.
+TheAzzholeSoFar It's true. They built a boat prototype out of it in WWII, and it took three hot summers to melt. The man who proposed this idea was proving the materials' strength to his comrades by shooting it. The bullet shot a nearby officer due to the ricochet of the bullet.

During WW2 the allies named it "pykrete" and planned on building an enormous aircraft carrier out of it to park in the north Pacific to launch heavy bombers against Japan. It would have been impervious to torpedoes or aerial bombardment. The project was abandoned after the unexpected success of the "Island Hopping" campaign got B-29s withing striking distance from the pacific islands.

Statistically it is more accurate than a text book due to the continual vetting process. It only provides an superficial overview, though. If something interests you or it is an important topic, the old library still reigns supreme.

Wood Pulp mixed with Water and frozen is called *Pykrete* and is stronger then normal ice. I remember an episode of Mythbusters where they made a piece an inch or less thick, it was strong enough to hold Adam several feet off the ground, even while he was jumping on it. I was honestly shocked you were able to bite into it without breaking your teeth!
AngelMuggleAngel They probably used a different ratio of wood pulp to water. If they had used the same ratio as Adam and Jamie did, well let's just say I would hope they had a good dental plan.

As a note, sawdust mixed with water and then frozen can have a similar strength as concrete. Called "Pykrete", the substance was considered by the English during WWII for the construction of a battleship in the cold northern waters.
I recall Mythbusters found it was even stronger in sheet form as it retained the long fiber strength.
