He is using the jester's priviledge. In the court of the king, he would have the right to mock without punishment.
Because his job was to entertain.
Not always, though. Some especially bad monarchs still punished jesters.
Ye i wouldnt insult the king or his family 😂
Ok fuckin Gandalf
He is an absolute genius ahead of his time, relentless, laughing out loud all the way through as haven't for a while.
Makes me proud to be British and myst have helped u guys love UK comedy ❤ and realise it can be fab
I once got into trouble at work for describing a black customer as black, my HR manager said you can't say that, and then a whole in depth conversation ensued about what descriptive term I should have used...🤦🏻♂️🙄. The world has gone nuts with all this PC bullsh*t.
Great reaction guys. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
So what descriptive term should you have used?
@@dracula5487
Apparently I should have said African or Dark skinned gentleman......🤦🏻♂️
@@paulallaker8450 You can't say either of those as he may not have been African and could have been trans so back to HR you go....................😜
Tell your HR manager that he is talking out of his arse! It seems that this ignoramus is getting offended on someone else's behalf. I have a lot of black friends and the term is perfectly sound. The term they don't like (amongst others) is 'coloured'.
H R are limp wristed wankers who steal a wage, they are the real problem
Many people are deeply offended with Ricky, but he is extremely intelligent and a very deep thinker. Yes, he is very funny......even a genius, but look beyond his 'offensive' words and you see that all he is doing is showing how stupidly sensitive this modern world has become. He is very clever when you look below the surface. As he says........'Words evolve'.
love the dynamic you two have, great watch guys. keep up the videos
Watching ya'll laugh is just as much fun as the jokes. Ricky is so funny sometimes.
All the time ❤️
Love this channel. The chemistry, the set up looks great, love the selection of reactions, and above all, the reactions. 😂
Thank you
Reading out the definition of mong was making me laugh
Ricky is amazing 😂
If only they knew where that word really came from! "Mong" is short for "Mongoloid" and was used to describe people with Down Syndrome because some people think they have Asian-looking eyes. So, not only is it ableist, it's also racist!
@@MatthewTheWandererfunny tho
@@MatthewTheWandererI’ve been saying it since I was about 12 us Brits aren’t soft like everyone else
@@connorpennington2670 Yes, it is funny.
@@connorpennington2670 You shouldn't make such assumptions about other peoples being soft, lol.
I like Ricky he says it how it is like it or not. And he ain’t wrong at all.
He says it as he sees fit for the people that would like to say is as they see fit, if you get my meaning.
Great reaction guys, really enjoyed it 😊😊
Mong is short for Mongloid. Mongloid is derived from Mongolian.
Because Mongols the race, are similar in looks to Mongols, people with Downs Syndrome, I'd venture, which is how the word came to be used and shortened.
Ricky Gervais has an honours degree in Philosophy. He's a deep thinker who puts into words what we struggle to.
Mong is a shortening of Mongoloid which was used to describe the appearance of people with Down Syndrome. (Because of a perceived similarity with people from Mongolia. They described them as 'mongoloid' features.)
Sad but I believe true
True, but now it just means an idiot
Yeah you're right used a lot in 1960s 1970s.
Correct, so not only is that word ableist, it is also racist!
@@MatthewTheWanderer it's actually intellectual evolution that best describes ancestral traits as not being 'politically correct ', but history cannot be changed, no matter how much some wish to.
@@user-qj7et4wv3q That's true.
The more the world tries to censor him the louder he gets, and thank you Ricky. To use Chappelle ‘s word - Brittle ! Society is become brittle and it’s dangerous. It’s one thing to say no to abuse it’s another to lie in wait for anything you don’t want to hear or to try and make yourself big by destroying others .Censorship is a tool of tyranny
Brilliant thanks x
Sadly society has become too sensitive to many descriptions, many years ago I was in the lobby of a restaurant waiting to be seated. The staff write notes in the "appointments book" so they can recognise which customer they are referring to. IE they might write "check shirt", I am good at reading fast even upside down text and saw myself listed as "big belly", I thought it was funny but the staff member dug a bigger hole by apologising profusely. In retrospect I should have shamed them into giving me more food...
Good job you didn't, next time you ate there the description would have been 'Even bigger belly'.
Did they say, "Sorry about your wait (weight)?"
Mong is something we British would say if you do something stupid just like don't be a spasistic if your clumsy but these days everyone is so literal
Oh you mean like those religious nutters, the 'Moore Mons'
Like in America, retard is considered offensive now, with some people even calling it the "r-word".
ken dodd was a comedian from my homewtown of liverpool, was in the business for over 60 years.
With us Brits, we are somewhat ruthless in the way we talk about people and also the names we call people. Even our close friends/best friends are not without monikers that you guys would deem really, really offensive. For us it's not just a term of endearment but also a judgement call on how a person reacts to being called the name we give them. If they become offended by it, then we switch from offensive names to 'piss taking offensive' names and they don't become part of our circle of friends.
If you walked into a pub in the UK and listened to conversations, you would probably think we all hated one another and be shocked at the discussions when in fact the opposite would be true.
Ricky's description of Susan Boyle is pretty tame.
I'm fat and I have to laugh at this. And yes, he generalises a lot but I laugh because it's funny and I don't take it personally.
Yep that's the point innit, there's nowt personal
This isn't on BGT, it's Ricky's own show!
Yes they know. It doesn't mean he is on the show BGT but that he is talking about BGT hence Ricky Gervais on [about the show] BGT.
@@rambledogs2012 I thought that afterwards, but the question marks make it doubly ambiguous.
@@Dr.Ian-Plect It does, that's right. I did a double take but then, like yourself, realised it wasn't Ricky actually on BGT 🙂
@@rambledogs2012 indeed 👍
@@Dr.Ian-Plect Yeah, now that you point it out, the question marks in the title make no sense
Oh you two are so innocent compared to us 🇬🇧 🥰 We have grown up with it though and been subjected to this sort of humour for decades. Many of the 60s & 70s shows they daren't show on the main channels now.
Even the US Married With Children, which is hilarious, hasn't been shown for years, I had to buy the box set.
as someone i love said it ... Life's tough get a helmet
Savage, but bloody brilliant for it.
People cannot tell me what to say
Ricky's a legend along with karl pilkington........give those a review
Ever since I first saw Suebo I said the same thing, if she's been slim and pretty she wouldn't have won the show. Love Ricky.
Two Americans totally confused 😂
Ken Dodd was a legend and yes he would be on stage for hours
@jangraham7647 I never found Ken Dodd funny, and it was the same with Tommy Cooper, clever but not funny.
The 'R' word. Rotoscope? : D
The Murican grammar fascism never ceases to amaze.
I say what i think and don't give a shit
If you think ricky is savage you should react to Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr roasting their audiences
This is from his special Out of Britain.
No, Science.
i’m from england and i had no idea mong derived from that, i thought it was just another slang term
Have you been under a rock
@@user-qx9fy8gu1w evidently lmao
Yea but that is only one school of thought, it could also derive from mongrel, just as like the breed of dog.
It’s ok to laugh…..otherwise like would be so boring 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Why should people have a filter?
I'd argue that mong is even more offensive than the "r" word, just based off of it's origins. the "r" word can be used to just mean slow. For example, when someone says to "r" word the timing of a car, it just means to slow it down. That's why it's used for people with Down Syndrome, cause they're being called slow. The British slang is worse, and it can be looked up, so I don't need to repeat it here.
Look in the Oxford dictionary and count how many words start with m.o.n.g, just for starters mongrel.
Yep, I have even seen the phrase "to retard spoilage" on food ingredient lists. And the origin of "mong" is racist.
Ricky Gervais. The man who punches down.
Cry about it. That makes it even funnier.
How else are you supposed to hit a midget?
mdkramster, the man who uses made up, nonsensical terms in place of an argument.
in Australia we say mongA. Same $ht different smell
You can't say mong...oh shit I just did!
Ricky Gervais is correct about Susan Boyle - her voice is reasonable, but not objectively good. Most pop/rock/RnB etc singers really don’t have a good singing voice and so in comparison it’s conceivable for someone such as Susan Boyle to be thought as having a great voice.
Ricky is an "Equal Opportunities" offender. He's on full blast and nobody gets a pass which, somewhat surprisingly means he can't be accused of being a bigot as he insults absolutely everyone.
Mong has never been associated with Down's Syndrome. This has been said recently (in retrospect) but it's just not true. The person/people saying that it were the only ones that were using it thinking of people with Down's. It is synonymous with "idiot" but even more light-hearted.
It is a shortened version of "Mongoloid" which is what people with Downs Syndrome used to be called
True
Mong has always been associated with Down's Syndrome lol
That's not correct, back in the early 80's we used to call other kids Mongs, which was an abbreviation for mongoloid as in the features of someone with DS. We knew that back then.
You are absolutely wrong. I'm old enough to know that people with Downs Syndrome were generally referred to as mongols, at least by working class people.
The whole world needs funny comedy stop cancelling laughter
Mongolian... Mongole... etc
He does have a filter...It wouldn't work if he didn't
Ricky G was never on bgt.
Bruhhhh
I'm generally a fan of RG, but I didn't think much of his comments about Susan Boyle, who looks as she does because that's how nature has shaped her, not through some bizarre personal choice.
Yea but that's cause she was obese at the time, have you seen her when she lost w8.
@@user-qj7et4wv3q I've also noticed that she looks a lot better with makeup, stylish hair, and stylish clothes. Plus, even back when she first became famous, she was a lot older than most other newly famous people (being in her mid-40s).
Comedy would not be funny if you tip toe around, get a life!
@@user-qj7et4wv3q Do you use w8 because you can't spell weight?
Not much hilarity to be heard on with the Susan Boyle material. Never mind poor taste, it was poor material.
yeah this is blatantly obvious this is going all over your head.
Mongrel…that’s what’s mong is short for…
No it isn't. It's short for 'mongoloid'.
Love Ricky buts he’s wrong about being fat
Are you referring to the mythical subgroup that gets and stays fat without over-consuming calories? I'd like to see a study that longterm counts calories and exercise in this subgroup, because it violates the laws of thermodynamics. Are you saying these people can't land on a caloric intake and exercise regime that supports a healthier and thinner existence? That whatever they eat they stay fat, and if they take a wafer thin morsel less, they'll starve to death? Is it a physical issue that keeps them from stopping over-eating, or is mental?
nope he is 100% right
Explain how he's wrong? My guess is that you can't.
No not for me, don’t find him funny at all
Are you fat?
Ken Dodd was way funnier than ricky
@nigelcrawshaw6132, I never found Ken Dodd funny, and it was the same with Tommy Cooper, clever but not funny.
Ricky's last two gigs have been basically the same thing.
Lazy comedy, generally only kicks down.
His first four specials were awesome.
So, he hurt you in the last two.
@@user-ws3ce5bn6f , he hurt my wallet, I paid to watch the same jokes twice.
He's always punched down. You only care now because you're the target.
@@josey6231 , how am I the target?
@josey6231 , I'm what they call a "cis white male", again, how am I the target?
Get back under your rock, just because something is offensive, doesn't make it funny the third time you paid to hear it.
First time it was hilarious.
This isnt britains got talent
These are real soldiers who have been serving in Afghanistan and Iraq and there weapons are loaded.
And
A different view to others who comment. I think Ricky is a horrible person! Not funny - all ego!
Usually love RG but I just didn’t think this was funny. I’m not offended just not amused. 😕
