    ►Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (ストリートファイターⅢ サードストライク Sutorīto Faitā Ⅲ Sādo Sutoraiku?) is the third installment of the Street Fighter III series, released in 1999. A sequel to Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact, it continues the series' use of the parry system, command grabs, and overhead attacks. At Comic Con 2010, a new downloadable online version entitled Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition was announced.[1] It was released on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in August 2011. The arcade version of the game was also re-released in the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection in 2018.

    I like how the turbo/speed element in SF games up to this point was set aside for a different experience, and the emphasis was on rhythm and timing with smooth animation where you could "feel" the weight of the character as they threw their weight and momentum around on the screen. It's very satisfying to execute a combo on an opponent that feels like a smooth and graceful swing of a bat dinging a clean homerun out of the park.

    The problem is, I don't know how to time a parry lol. I can parry projectiles but when it comes to attacks like neutrals or EX's I'm lost. Sometimes I do it by accident so I miss my chance to punish. It's not like soul calibur where you can actually see your character do a parry motion and once you do you nullify your opponent's attack completely but with 3rd strike the attacks keep coming not to mention the myriad of timing of each character's attacks and once you miss you're done lol. Like you said it's not smart to parry everything but if you're always blocking it's like you're missing the fun factor of this game.

    • @ghostfrom3rdstrike
      @ghostfrom3rdstrike  Před 2 lety +33

      So since Parrying is more of a read, you gotta just get used to what you should do once the Parry lands. Now timing Parry with attacks come with time and muscle memory. I suggest, depending on your version of 3rd Strike, to record dummy to do certain physical moves and practice your punishes once you parry

    • @ghostfrom3rdstrike
      @ghostfrom3rdstrike  Před 2 lety +24

      It's easier to Parry moves like jump ins, sweeps and specials. It's harder to Parry fast normals that can be canceled into other normals. I recommend parrying low MK (medium kick) and some specific normals characters may have. Trying to Parry Lights are kind of not worth it

      Definitely get the online edition if you can, It has a parry trial mode that goes through common and then even expert parry challenges you can run through over and over to get the timing down. Just remember that when parrying moves that have multiple hits (usually specials like Ken's EX DP for example), You are going to follow parry much slower than the attack looks when it hits you raw after you parry the initial hit. Also I don't know if this is correct but I noticed the speed in which you do a "combo-parry" I'll call it, The speed is the same for every consecutive hit, it won't switch up the timing on you unless it's a super move. Hope this helps anyone 🤙

    Third Strike, at least to anything before it, feels more complicated to me. You have a ton of moves, dashing, multiple specials per character and the parrying system is do or die. Some people just absorb anything you throw at them, projectiles or even melee and raise their special bar quicker or punish you for attempting to attack. Not trying to play like that will get you done for and attempting, but not accomplishing the parries, will also be your downfall.

  • @zendiz6168
    @zendiz6168 Před 5 měsíci

    People get into this for different reasons, but having fun is the most important.I used to compete profiessionally ten years ago, then I took it really serios to be the best. Nowadays I play to slowly improve and have fun. It's really the greatest fighting game ever. It' s about the mindgame/parries that makes this game so intruiging. If you can soulread your opponent you will almost always win, regardless of chara. This is an aspect that other SF games doesn't quite have, or at last not to that extent. This game is so deep that red parries is the standard. Parrying is normal now in high level play, as well as reversal everything. And people are finding new stuff everyday. New stuff every day to. 25 year old game. It's quite amazing that 25 years after It's release it still have a broad gamerbase and is still played competitivly.
    Just a few months ago I figured out a 100 procent way to parry Chuns cr mk into super. Parry the low forward, don't wait to see if she uses super or no, just press cr LP, then cr mk. If Chun activates she will get hit by your cr lp into dp/super. If she doesn't activate ken will first thorow out cr LP then the cr mk will connect into super. Also not many people know this but Akuma can karagrab you and throw you backwards. Oh,and Elena, if she ever does Rhino horn. Doo't block, just holding down, not downback, just down and she will land infront of you free to get punished. I have so many bits and pieces that even high level players don't know about as i'm sure they do me since they beat mw haha, but it's all fun anyways. Love finding new things. Think i'm gonna put some effort into mechanics and oractice my execution. Because that's the biggest gap between me and the top ken players. They use all the confirm. And they all kara srk eveeytime.

    Akuma's taunt increases his damage/stun output for the next move. Also, third strike is not veryveryveryvery strict with inputs. You just need to get used to inputting the correct motions.
    Also, my personal tip: Learn how to perform mixups with ANY character. It can make for a strong offense.

    @GazettiSF Před 2 lety +3

    I feel like 3s has some fairly lenient inputs. I play a lot of ST though so idk. Maybe it’s redundant because this seems to be targeted at people who know fighting games a bit, but I’d still add watching replays and learning from mistakes.

    • @blossom357
      @blossom357 Před 2 lety +1

      As someone who doesn't even have the patience to learn combos, and just does one tier above button mashing for now: 3s does feel lenient compared to Alpha 2. A2's inputs make me feel like an idiot. Ditto for a couple other games I've tried like Rage of the Dragons and Galaxy Fighter, also that game's sequel: Waku Waku 7. I simply cannot do DP in WW7, somehow. By comparison with these other games with stricter inputs, 3s and Vampire Savior feel like I know how to do these moves.

    edit: and if anyone knows how to do a crouching normal into a shoryuken then can you reply please? from sf4 onwards you can do down-forward, down then down-forward and punch to do a dp but that isn't in the older games? is there a special technique, or do i just have to do the dp input *really* quickly?

    First tip:
    Dont parry Everything
    I cant even Parry anything. 😭
    I think this guide is for 3rd Strike beginners. Not for ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS.
    Should I lab this game more? I cant even beat the Arcade mode. I cant even perform even the most basic 3 hit combos consistently.
    Any tips for absolute noobs like me?
    I'm playing Ryu as I have in Alpha 3 should I be switching to Ken? I dont plan on playing competitively as there is no Third Strike scene in our country. But I wanna enjoy the game in any way I can.
    Constantly getting my ass kicked by the AI is no fun at all.

    1:27 this is very true. Parry bait is a big deal and should be taken seriously. However, had this ken not missed the third parry, he could have parried the kick as well. This is a fairly common combo, and often players will not do it fast enough to make it unreactable. If done correctly, you can wait for akuma players to throw out this combo, parry it, then follow up, especially with super.

    5:37 this is straight up factually wrong. 3rd strike is easily the worst good fighting game to start with. Small community, not enough tutorials, all players have been playing for years and will kick your ass like you will lose 50 games in a row with maybe taking a few rounds if you run into another noob. Inputs are insanely hard and infuriating because it feels like you do the same input but get 5 different outcomes. Other players don't understand how you have a problem with simple things because they have been doing them for so long they can't remember a time where they couldn't do it so they just tell you to get good and practice like your doing school work and not playing a video game. As a new player with 8 hours in online matches (and god know how many in the lab practicing inputing a dp and linking 3 hits together as Akuma) I would never recommend this to any of my casual friends except if they already love another fighting game and have a desire to play it.
