Very cool to see The Networks so high.
We first played it in a little game cafe in NYC. I was opening up the game and a man walked over and said:
"I can teach you this if you'd like."
"Oh cool! You already know how to play?"
"Well, I designed the game so..."
Moral of the story: Gil Hova is a great guy.
the game is great, i've played it a ton and yep its such a great teach - its a tv show with ads and actors... you use money, you can buy viewers, get what you want as soon as you can. It's always been well received even by people that don't usually like that type of game. The art and punny names grabs me.
that would be great to play with Gil!
Just watched your video with Tim a Chuon and the other guys. Such an amazing video. Thank you all so much for your time and commitment to the board game community. I am always so excited to see your new content. I haven’t played Burncycle but Turing Machine is so fun. I cannot wait to get my hands on Wonderlands War! Thank you again.
"We like Lord of the Rings - we're nerds, if you hadn't pieced that together." -- It would take some serious denial for someone to make it 85 games into your 4th(ish?) time doing a Top 100 BOARD GAMES of all time without having considered that nerdlery might be running rampant in these parts.
We are bonkers for Planet Unkown, soooo good. Also it is great seeing some underdogs slide in here like Networks.
Agreed! The underdogs make it feel like a personal list instead of a popularity list.
I REALLY gotta play this soon. I have the Ks edition but it’s not made it to the table yet, mostly because I’ve been focusing on playing games on on the fence about keeping, which has led to some culling!
Ughhh I need to try Planet Unknown. It sounds so good! 😊👏🏻 I’ve been really enjoying your top 100 brothers! Can’t believe there is only the top 10 to go! Great job! 🎉
Congrats on reaching the donations goal. I respect and like all the games mentioned in this video.
I've been kicking myself for not picking up Planet Unknown at my FLGS when I saw it there a month ago. Thanks for inspiring me to kick harder. Loving this top 100! Can't wait for the finale!
All games in your top 20 are either ones I can nod approvingly at, or something I would like to play. Good stuff
Planet unknown is fantastic and is also really good solo! So glad I backed it!
Love that purple t-shirt 😍 great list, guys!
Got my games from Tabletop Alliance! Super amazing! 👏 We're so grateful 🙏
Wow, the art in Hallertau looks amazing! One of the best of the Rosenberg games it seems
I have so many of the games you've mentioned unplayed in my collection. I need to get playing!
I really enjoy Planet Unknown too. I don’t play as many of the other pure euros (esp about building cities/farms) but overall I enjoy many of the games on your lists so far….waiting for the Rajas to land (also one of my favourites!). Thanks for the videos! Love your enthusiasm!
Good to see Uwe going strong! Man I've heard so much about Planet Unknown I gotta try it!
Top 20 represent! It’s so great to see people talking about games they’re passionate about.
As for games I want to replay:
20. PORT ROYAL (+5). Such a classic! My students really like it and they’re not much in the way of gamers.
19. WHISTLE MOUNTAIN (NEW). This game has some super cool mechanics and I really enjoyed my first play. Excited to get it back to the table!
18. GOLEM (NEW). This was a huge surprise because I thought I’d hate this game based on the garish box and spooky theme. But the theme is actually interesting and respectfully applied, and the engine building and action selection are just cool.
17. BLACK ANGEL (NEW). This game has a lot going on but it’s neat, and I like how even though it’s crunchy it also has a race-against-the-clock component to the game.
16. GANZ SCHÖN CLEVER (-7). Still in my top 20. No other roll-and-write compares. The interesting decision space, the luck mitigation, and-of course-the delicious action combos make it irresistible. Another game my students seem to like!
15. PULSAR 2849 (NEW). I am such a Suchy fan, and this one intrigued me upon my first play. Excited to play it again!
14. THE GALLERIST (NEW). I finally have played a Lacerda! Excited to try more, if this is the kind of game I can expect!
13. SMARTPHONE INC. (NEW). Played this in Paris with a gamer I met online, and it was such a fun experience. Bought myself a copy when I got home but haven’t managed to get it to the table yet.
12. NEWTON (NEW). Watched the playthrough on Before You Play and knew I had to try this. Played with my friends and very quickly confirmed what I’d suspected. Great fun!
11. TRICKERION: LEGENDS OF ILLUSION (NEW). According to BGG, this is the second-crunchiest game I’ve ever played (spoiler, my number 10 is the most), but it didn’t seem that bad to me. I liked it a lot! I do wish there were other ways to get points besides performances, but thematically I can see why that wouldn’t work. Neat game.
-TO BE CONTINUED-
Ooh, can’t wait to see what you’ve picked! Thanks for the vid!
Excelent video! your comments on each game are so cool, i learned so much. Your fan from Argentina here. Not many cow in the capital, but a few minutes in car and is only plains full of cows. I wish some day i can send you my game "Héroes y Dados" to try.
hey Diego! Thank you for the kind words! Email us about your game! thebrothersmurph@gmail.com
Cartographers is one of my favorite games of all time. I have the lovely large collectors box with Heroes. The scoring system which Isle of Skye also uses I think should be in many more games as it’s very dynamic and exciting.
I remember seeing Through the Ages II in-person and seeing the back cover exclaim "Over 250 cubes included!" ... and I just put the game back. The digital game IS great, but the rules leave my brain so quickly. My top 100 continued!
20. Horizons of Spirit Island - I love Spirit Island, but it can be such a daunting game to play and teach. The new target edition REALLY makes the game easier. The gods are so much more basic but it's awesome. Reinvigorated my love for the game (because other people will now play and don't need my friend hovering over them telling them how to play)
19. The Quest for El Dorado - Whenever I teach this game, I always play immediately again. I have loved this game since it came out and it is such a smooth gameplay experience.
18. The Castles of Burgundy - Or the castles of Borkendorf as we call it is such a good game of stealing exactly what your neighbor needs.
17. Unmatched - I would bring Star Wars Epic Duels to inside recess days at elementary school, and my friends and I played it so much we memorized most of the cards. When it came back even better, I was overjoyed. What an amazing game.
16. Carnegie - Another game that requires you to pay attention to your neighbors. This game does such a good job of feeling like you are managing a workforce. How you allocate the workers and how you integrate them back into your board is such a cool mechanism.
15. Wingspan - A really casual and fun game. My friends and I always read the bird facts and latin names to each other. It is required when you play the bird into your sanctuary.
14. Great Western Trail (TRUE CROSSOVER) - I have yet to play Argentina but this game is just flat out fun.
13. Res Arcana - Tom Lehmann gave a talk on magic versus race for the galaxy, but this game is like the peak expression of his thesis there. Cards are resources. Play them out or turn them into resources to turn them into points. Do it as fast as possible. I love this game.
12. Food Chain Magnate - The art is bad. I used to be an apologist for the art because it really does reinforce the theme, but they re-used an art asset in the expansion and that made the whole thing seem cheap. BUT THE GAME IS SO GOOD. Another great game about managing a workforce and watching your opponents like a hawk.
11. Eclipse: Second Dawn for the Galaxy - The game that got my game group into the hobby. It got us into DnD as well. I love this big dumb game and it's best at its higher player counts.
i'm so overdue for playing your 16!!! it looks so good with those minis (did you paint those?!); 10-1 HYPE
Love most of them. Heavy euros not so much. Great video. Greetings from Colombia

14. Air, Land, and Sea
15. Akrotiri
16. The Manhattan Project
17. Container

With all the types of games you guys like im surprised you don’t like Lacerda games more. Great list!
We honestly just need to try them all again. I(Nick) have always been pretty lukewarm on them
so happy you guys finally got around to grand austria hotel, it's soooo good.. i wonder why it hasn't shown up between 11-100 for me? weird! =P

You should look around for playmats of terraforming mars that combines every expansion on one neat playmat. Got a model off Etsy a few years ago and got it printed and it's seriously a godsend
I've wanted to try a feast for Odin for a while but I'm too afraid😂 Great video!
A lot of the options are just upgraded versions of each other. It's not a million worker placement variations, it's more like 20 with different strengths. Don't be intimidated! It's got a great sense of possibility - so many ways to pursue points.
@@imaginedlandscapes Thanks for your reply. I really should try it, especially since I mostly play solo and I heard it's a good game for that.

Great video guys, might want to add a blur in the CZcams editor on the top right corner of the Cartographers example sheet 😜
Love to see Rajas and Grand Austria so high, two of my favorites. You mention that all dice values are very strong in Rajas, which is something I love; however, I feel the '2' action is a clear runway from strongest action. Have you come across that? Also, I am glad to hear Argentina is so good, I was bummed to have to upgrade my GWT 1st edition (because 2nd edition is just better), but now I can just keep my 1st edition and get Argentina for 2E.
In terms of the dice value specific actions yes 2 is by far the most used. It’s so good! We were speaking more to how all values of dice can be used in the game for good not just the high value.
And heck yeah GWT Argentina is rad
LOVE the efficiency puzzle that Underwater Cities presents! For Arnak, Expedition Leaders is one of the best expansions I have played. It just straight makes the game WAY better. The char that makes it easier to explore is my fav, close 2nd is the Baron. Feast is my favorite Uwe game easily, especially with Norwegians. Does The Networks play well at 2? Seems like its between print runs atm too x.x. I AM AWFUL at Hallertau. I rarely get points from my community center lmao. The field mini-game and the constantly changing worker placement spots are really fun though. Play with everything TM except Turmoil every game and we adore it :p.
WotR is perfect, period lol. The theme and game play is so flawlessly strong, even the RNG works in its favor as it keeps you on your toes the entire game. Really wish we had the collectors edition but joined the hobby to late(. Speaking of Praga, Did you know a important ingredient for the bridges in Gondor was egg shells ;)? Will not play Viticulture without world now. GAH is lovely but is another game I am really bad at. I prefer Lorenzo for its more open ended nature. Sam the AI of GWT is a monster, especially if he goes with builder specialization.. you guys championed Rajas for me and I thank you for it, no other channel preaches about it like you do. The modules are all great, love me some monkey tiles.
Quite enjoy Cartographers but it takes forever for us because we cant help but use colored pencils in this house lol. So we generally will lean towards other R&W choices like Fleet, Three Sisters or Hadrian's Wall. I have read that the asymmetric powers of Planet Unknown concerning the planet/corp combos have pretty bad balance, is that true? Very interested in that game if balance isn't a problem. Ok, now that all the straight trash games have been covered. lets get to that top 10, LETS GO!!
I bought Through the Ages app over the weekend and I just looked up from some efficient upgrades and it's Thursday. What have you done, Mike!
11 Viticulture Essential Edition
12 Beyond the Sun
13 The Red Cathedral
14 Terraforming Mars
15 Star Wars: Rebellion
16 Barrage
17 Targi
18 The Search for Planet X
19 Messina 1347
20 Coffee Traders
@@TheBrothersMurph it's on TTS. I would teach it to you ... just saying!
Grand Austria Hotel - Theme wise, my understanding was that the people in the cafe already knew they were gonna stay there. They just needed a snack before going up to their room. Anyway, no big whoop, but it's strudel not streusel. Come to think of it, some streusel on top of strudel sounds really good right about now😋
I don't really ever vibe with all the Uwe and Shem Phillips games. However when it comes to mid-weight and family weight games, we always seem to be on the same wavelength. Especially with games from PWH (Praise Be!) or Brookles Catookles or *gasp* Well I John De-clare!
That said, your high praise for Planet Unknown makes me think that needs to be my next purchase. Y'all definitely didn't steer me wrong with Space Base.
It continues:
20--Roll Player (Keith Matejka)
19--Marvel United (Andrea Chiarvesio, Eric Lang)
18--Smartphone Inc. (Ivan Lashin)
17--Bargain Quest (Jonathan Ying)
16--Ethnos (Paolo Mori)
15--Cockroach Poker (Jacques Zeimet)
14--Specter Ops (Emerson Matsuuchi)
13--Istanbul (Rüdiger Dorn)
12--Tiny Towns (Peter Mcpherson)
11--BattleCON (D. Brad Talton, Jr)
You have got the play Underwater Cities with the expansion. It makes it a lot better. It is comparable to Prelude for TM.
Yeah we wanna get it for sure just haven’t pulled the trigger because it’s pricey
Looking forward to finally seeing games that aren't TRASH next time.
Though you did hit 2 of my top 10 this time. (Ark Nova and Ares Expedition) HOW DARE, sirs. How. Dare.
I want to play Viticulture so bad too but I cannot seem to selly gaming group on the concept.
A great list gents. I would love to try Great Western Trail: Argentina. Love Lost Ruins as you will see by my list here.
11. Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape
12. Lost Ruins of Arnak
13. Star Wars: Rebellion
14. Arcadia Quest
15. Descent: Journey's in the Dark
16. Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion
17. Zombicide (All Iterations)
18. Near and Far
19. Arcadia Quest
20. Wingspan
We really need to try Star Wars Rebellion. We've heard such good things
Hey guys love your lists I’m getting great info for my next purchases. I don’t agree however when you say you will play a game on the app only that it should be rated here. If a board game is that much of a slog that you won’t play it physically it doesn’t belong here. Cheers luv you guys.
Through the ages transcends so I’m good with it but appreciate that not everyone likes digital games. Glad you’re liking the lists!
You guys tried Joan of Arc: Orléans Draw & Write? I saw lots of people playing it in PAX, but I didn't get a chance to play it myself :(
Another solid list!! You guys think GWT: Argentina is good for mostly solo? I have the original 1st edition and thought about replacing it so I can solo. Also I accidentally bought it in German 😂😂😂😭 I can play it still but had to download a rulebook haha
We haven’t played this one solo but have played GWT 2nd ed solo and really liked it. It seems to keep the same core together here for solo so it should be solid as well
11. Crokinole 12.Five Tribes 13. Cascadia 14. Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small 15. Raptor 16. RA 17. Nanga Parbat 18. Azul 19. Sonora 20. DI: Rawr and Write
Whoever did the art for Hallertau (guess it’s Lukas Siegmon) should do more Uwe games. It looks goooood.
I love Planet Unknown! Such a brilliant game- you guys also sold me on Great Western Trail. I will have to try it out maybe even with you guys at Dice Tower West. You guys are going to that correct?
@@TheBrothersMurph oh that is bittersweet. Thanks for the reply and heads up
I don't recall Carnegie being mentioned yet. I wonder where it falls for these bing bongs. Will it be number 1? It's sooooooo goooooooooddd.
Fantastic list! I'm glad to see Rajas of the Ganges and Hallertau get some love. Controversial opinion: Uwe is the world's greatest designer, and Hallertau is his greatest game. Speaking of hot takes, Grand Austria Hotel is an amazing game... But Lorenzo il Magnifico is a little bit better!
20. Cascadia
19. The Networks
18. Paladins of the West Kingdom
17. Fields of Arle
16. Ora et Labora
15. The Pursuit of Happiness
14. Meadow
13. Mansions of Madness
12. Viticulture
11. Everdell
There is something about Lost Ruins of Arnak that I just don't get. Everyone loves it, but I can't get into it. It's beautiful and I love the theme. But I just never wanna pull it off the shelf. I must be broken. :/
Great video though guys! :)
Wonderland's War really, really shocked me. I despise war games in general. I think because you can easily interpret the "war" to be a bloodless one (as I do), I don't mind that part. Also, the bag building is incredibly addictive, like opening a can of Pringles and "Once you pop, you can't stop!"
Nick really sold me on The Networks and now it’s on my short list.
20. Fantastic Factories
19. Jaipur
18. Living Forest
17. Cascadia
16. Blue Lagoon
15. Mariposas
14. Calico
13. Bohnanza
12. SCOUT
11. Dice Miner
Did I miss something, or did Pulsar 2849 not come up yet on either lists? With call these Suchy games, I’m assuming it’s here somewhere?!
Nooooooo. It’s like my favorite dice drafter. Still pretty trashy but a more polished, better smelling, composted trash.
Random, but I think the artist for Faiyum would do a great job with Splotter games. Indonesia, Zimbabwe, Roads and Boats, Antiquity.. Are you guys familiar with their games? It's wild to me not to have Food Chain or Bus in a top 100 list.
Mike has played food chain magnate but that’s it from their games so far
Viticulture is a game that I expected to be just fine, but i like it more then I think I would.
Please teach me (Jeff) War of the Ring! I also am a LOTR nerd, that big boys been on my list for a long time.
Just got Lost Ruins of Arnak.
I found Ark Nova is OK but it takes so long. Looking forward to the expansion.
I refuse to play Ark Nova with four people. I like it with two or three very much.
Mike and i have the exact same #20, but nick and i have the same #17 and #21, bizarre :)
So Terraforming Mars was in my top 100 but Ares delivered last week and I’ve played it twice solo. I can’t say it’s better cuz I haven’t played with other people… but it’s better.
20. Five Tribes
19. Ankh: Gods of Egypt
18. Rajas of the Ganges
17. Go
16. Decrypto
15. Carcassonne (w/ expansions 1 and 2)

18 Dale of Merchants 3: The Grand Continental Railway
19 Carcassonne:
20 Mysterium
At 53:45 when you’re showing the dice in Rajas, what happened to that purple die on the top? Is it a 2 is it a 3? Did it melt? Lol. That guy has seen better days and needs to be retired from its life of rolling.
GWT New Zealand? Will hobbits be guiding sheep to the shire? LOTR and GWT might break into your top 10 though!
We can only hope the rondel is a path from the shire to Mordor. We will accept nothing less
Almost the good games! These ones are still pretty alright. My 20-11:
11) Mansions of Madness
12) Cascadia
13) Art Decko
14) Just One
15) Pandemic Legacy: Season 1

15: dune imperium
14: clank!: acquisitions Inc
13: Concordia
12: ra
11: praga caput regni
Sooooo goooood
Dune is good need to play it more. I have only played it three times it’s at 106 and should rise after more games
I’m impatiently waiting for the new version of Ra to deliver next year. I want
to try it out so badly
@@Fatcat1010 heck yeA! I spent 100 on the original version and 50 on custom plastic tiles.. love it so much. 2 of my gaming group backed the new one, too!
@@dr3putt62 it's great.. it was in my top 10 last year but slipping towards 20s.. maybe I've played it too much! Lol
👍👍😄
The level of trashiness is getting better here. Not totally garbage and good enough to play once and leave to collect dust on the shelf.
Ares expedition is way better I'll fight with you XD
Great video. I really dislike when digitals apps are added to top board game lists. The reason behind this is most gamers when asked to play the "board game" version will say no I only play it digitally. So you don't like the board game??? Specifically Through the Ages is a game that a lot of gamers love, but only digitally version because the board game is too long. Okay then you don't like the board game...correct?
This is an issues of semantics. Sure I prefer to play through the ages digitally for all the reasons I laid out (the bookkeeping etc) but everything that was created for the physical board game is present in this version so I see no difference. Thought the ages digital doesn’t exist without the original game so let’s say this is a 2nd ed. How we choose to interact with games is 100% a question of taste and I’m really glad to have through the ages in my life and especially this version which has 0 headache and everything else is intact.
@@TheBrothersMurph I guess what I’m saying is the experience is very different. Also I know gamers that do not like the board game because it’s too long and the upkeep is to much but love the app.
That’s true and I do appreciate that we all like board games probably in part because we want to get away from screens and such so it’s totally alright to not want digital apps to be considered the same. Your feelings are valid for sure
@@TheBrothersMurph At the end of the day I really enjoy you sharing your list with us viewers. Keep up the great work and as long as someone is enjoying the game digital or not its a good thing. Also this conversation is just about a list, its not a big deal. Merry Christmas and look forward to watching the rest of the videos.
The great games begin.......next list, games that are so powerful they can cure cancer.
What does Jason Bourne have to do with Arnak? Did you mean Nathan Drake? Haven't watched your channel too much so maybe I'm missing a joke here.
I’m sure we said Jason Bourne intentionally as a joke but honestly, even I don’t get it
How you gonna talk about Grand Austria Hotel with absolutely ZERO mention or display of Cokey McCokerson??? Best start designing another new logo, cause your brand is basically dunzo after a move like that.
Dang we dropped the ball aka big bag of cocaine that we confiscated from Cokerson
Mister Sir Bing Bong and Brother Sire Bing Bong made a list of almost good games. But alas, these are TRASH!
I had a girlfriend when I was 19
@@TheBrothersMurph look, it was a major accomplishment in my life at that point
I'm so thankful to have found The Brothers Murph. I really enjoy the differences in tastes. If I only watched The Dice Tower, I would have missed out on some games you two mentioned that I actually love now, so thanks!
You got it!
They are my fave content creators 👍 I also love TDT (obviously), Before You Play, Thinker Themer, Quackalope, BoardGameCo, Watch It Played, Rahdo Runs Through, and Shut Up & Sit Down 😊 all great!
