But or Rent - Shrek Forever After - • Shrek Forever After
Long-settled into married life and fully domesticated, Shrek (Mike Myers) begins to long for the days when he felt like a real ogre. Duped into signing a contract with devious Rumpelstiltskin, he finds himself in an alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin rules, and he and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) have never met. Shrek must find a way out of the contract to restore his world and reclaim his true love.

    Amazing analysis. Exceptional.
I don't entirely mean of the film, but of the condition of transitioning to being a husband and father.
I usually can see what is going on in people, more than other most folks do, but I have to admit I never really considered the extremeness of change for someone moving from single life to married to family. It seems obvious, but the emotional reality is greater than I previously appreciated, and your description was very eloquent and deep.
Biology is more immediate for woman, at least the ramifications of the reproductive end of it. Pregnancy is not something women can duck; they have 9 months of increasing demand to adjust or opt out, but they also have years of indoctrination and expectation laid on them from their earliest memory. They grow up with certain assumptions and a role that's demanding and demanded of them, so transition to mother (even though considerable) is literally more organic and natural (aided by hormones).
But for men, it's all psychological and therefore far more miraculous. That men can make that transition based more on faith, love, and wisdom is far more amazing than for women, who are prepped for this their entire lives, aided by biology, and exacted by societal demand and reprimand. The judgement absent or uncooperative fathers suffer is NOTHING to what women face if they neglect or abandon their children or spouse. (Not saying men get off scot-free, but it's definitely not as severe as what is thought of women.)
In my own case, I not only had the miracle of a father who stepped in and became mother to me when my natural mother abandoned us, but he wasn't even my biological father, having married my mother when I was 3 yrs old. I have very little memory of my mom being a mom; all my parenting modeling was done by a caring [step]father.
I always wanted a partner in life like Dad: someone who understood how a better and richer life comes of having a partner to build it with. Someone who understood that a great life and a great love doesn't 'just happen', but needs to be cultivated intentionally. Someone who has faith that it will only get more wonderful, and the commitment to make it so. It's shocking how many men don't make that leap of...faith? Confidence? Maturity? It's always seemed basic logic to me, but I never met anyone that smart. But I always believed such men existed, because my Dad was one of them. You confirm my faith, which reassures me, though I may never have someone like that in my life.
Shrek tells Fiona that he didn't rescue her, but she rescued him; he says it with absolute and unquestioning conviction. I believe that sentiment is what makes the strongest, happiest marriages. If a man truly believes he is lucky to have his woman, not only is he best disposed to find ways to work with her over differences, but she will do anything for him; you can't find a stronger bond in the universe.
Anyway, I wanted to thank you for the depth of your discussion. These animations are mostly seen as entertainment, as amusement, as distraction. The best of them have depth. But you brought a perspective that deepened even that. THIS is what brings me back to your channel. Clever is nice, turn of phrase is enjoyable, but DEEP INSIGHT is what I hunger for most, and you deliver that. Thank you.

even though I'm a mom and my kids are 6 and 3 now, I definitely went through this as well. It's a year to year feeling, comes and goes. the important thing to remember is to stay mindful, and grateful. that dirty kitchen isn't dirty, it's Lived in. those toys aren't a mess, they are a reminder that they had fun today. so on and so forth.. this movie does justice not for the kids, but for the parents. it's validation that feeling stuck is normal, and that you can change the way you feel, by changing the way you see the world. always find time for yourself, even if it's 20 minutes.

I agree with the comments here saying you would enjoy Cobra Kai a lot more after watching the Karate Kid movies(definitely 1 and 2...and 3 haha). I'm glad you all enjoyed your vacation, and I completely understand the decision to now wait until the little ones are a bit older. Haha But yes, Cobra Kai is great, and I think you'd enjoy it/it would be entertaining to watch you watch it! Also, a very fun and genuine reaction to a Shrek film I've also always found loving. Stay well!

Btw bro dont forget PUSS IN BOOTS movie is great, and so T_T , btw Am I the only one who actually think that didnt make that much sense, the thing where "ah if shrek never existed he would never save the princess and she would never being saved and stuffs" but what about Prince Charming? We saw in Shrek 2 he ws supposed to save the princess so, if shrek didnt exist then Charming would be the the one who would save Fiona right? Anyway
    Love this movie
