  • South Carolina prosecutors for the first time are sharing their theory of motive for why they believe jailed and disbarred former attorney Alex Murdaugh likely murdered his wife and son the night of June 7, 2021.
In a stunning filing Thursday morning, the S.C. Attorney General's office says Murdaugh's motive for allegedly killing his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, was to cause a distraction so Murdaugh could avoid imminent discovery of his multi-million dollar financial fraud schemes.

He has had a lifetime of getting whatever he wants, doing whatever he wants, and avoiding consequences. Why would it be any different this time? And if the shirt evidence is gone, and the testing substandard? He may get away with murder!
I also think the main motive was to get rid of Maggie, as she was tired of his ways, digging into their finances, and getting ready to divorce him. Alex had called her to meet out there. His plan was to murder her and solve the divorce problem - a common motive in spousal murders. I don't think he was expecting the son to be there, and made the snap decision to murder him as well to have no witnesses. Secondarily, it got rid of that nasty lawsuit that was coming up by the dead girl's family

It is almost too much to even comprehend, the family has been prosecutors since the early 1900s in that area and they had a law firm. He grows up with generational wealth which was gone, then steals millions by defrauding a family in a lawsuit where a woman who worked for the family as a cleaning lady died on their property. His son is involved in a boating accident that killed a young woman. When the walls are finally closing in he figures that he will just murder his wife and son for sympathy, to buy a few months time. What a disgusting pig, a gutless piece of vermin. Hope it was worth it, his life is over.

Often times these types will be quick to believe their lies and pretenses soley based on their titles and finances. Meanwhile they use such cloaks to manipulate and hide all the fuckery that they do. It's not hard to believe that he was able to get those that felt pity for him, to ignore the very deeds he was trying to hide. He's use to spinning words for support and gain. I think that would likely be a very logical line of thinking any reasonable person would consider. I imagine this would have enraged Alec because he saw it as an ultimate betrayal and saw her talking to others about their private lives as being the biggest threat to his freedom.
Seems likely the son was just caught in the crossfire or caught up in the struggle…. Possibly protecting his mother. This seems most plausible to me, especially after the most recent revelations. He killed the wife because she was on him about the trouble he put them in financially and he killed the son because the son has always been closer to mom and he felt alone and betrayed by them. He’s a weak, faint hearted individual who will now be judged for his evil.
