  • As shown in the video, I wasn't able to review their software due to a firmware update issue that bricked the machine. Assuming I can resolve the firmware issue, Part 2 will focus on the software experience.

    Love your detailed reviews. It’s amazing how much these things cost considering it’s size and the poor quality of the motor, materials, and manufacturing.

      I agree. That's why I made the original video, and this followup. Bantam's value proposition is fleeting.

    I'd love to see a tear down of the carvera from Makera

    This is seriously impressive and great to see. Would love to see you do a teardown of the Nomad 3 and see where you'd improve it.

      Thanks. Based on the pictures on Carbide3D's website, the Nomad 3 appears quite similar overall. It's not using ballscrews, has a similar spindle (albeit with a different (probably better) motor). The Nomad 3 does appear to have a better Z linear stage, but the Y and Z are probably on par with Bantam's design. Glad to see that the Nomad 3 at least has some internal skeleton (i.e. it's not entirely reliant on the thin outer enclosure for support). Nomad is probably better than the Bantam and is also $1200 cheaper.

    Are the stepper motors the same as the large machine, is it motor and leadscrew together.
    No matter how good they make it is the limiting factor the plastic nut and its spring?

    • @doppelhub
      @doppelhub  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes, same stepper size and general architecture. The delrin nut is slightly better on the Explorer, but still inferior to an actual ballscrew.

    Do you know a better brand that can be operated with Solidworks CAM software directly?
    Would this machine import G codes or 3D models from Solidworks?

    Hey I have this machine and I was wondering how you were able to connect your laptop and manually code commands… I reached out to Bantam and they just said they couldn’t support that and to just use their designated software which gives you no ability to control individual movements

    This is very similar to the original Othermill. Should cost $1500 in my opinion.

    I think they seriously have to up their game if they have any hope of competing with the Langmuir MR1, why buy this when you can have something 100x better for the same price?

    • @doppelhub
      @doppelhub  Před 9 měsíci +2

      I agree in general, but note the Langmuir is in a different class (even if it starts at the same price). Many people want a true desktop unit, which is where Bantam is competing.

    What a hunk of junk. Thanks for the review!

    Thanks John. These machines are a joke to be honest. Can you review the shariff dmc?

    • @doppelhub
      @doppelhub  Před 3 měsíci

      I haven't personally used the Shariff, but it looks considerably better designed. Note that it's in a different class in both size and cost; I hesitate to call it a 'desktop' machine, and the $3500 price tag is for a DIY Kit that takes ~40 hours to build.

    If you got burned by Bantam tools on a $3600 machine why would you risk another $4000? I appreciate the teardown but seems like you got stuck with moneypits. The Makera Carvera seems to give 10x the value for a desktop CNC.

      No need to worry about the money I spent... both units were purchased specifically for review.

      @@doppelhub well I applaud your contribution. Hopefully it reaches more perspective buyers and they make better cnc choices.

      Agreed... and maybe it also makes Bantam make better choice, too? @@Mitch3D
