MSFS 40th Anniversary Edition and Sim Update 11 have released for Microsoft Flight Simulator and with it came the H-4 Hercules Spruce Goose!! So naturally, we're going to fly it!

Absolutely stunning! I've visited the real airplane inside the MASSIVE museum hanger in Oregon. It's literally almost impossible to fully comprehend just how large this plane actually is in real-life. This model looks absolutely gorgeous 😍

I visited the Spuce Goose when it was at Long Beach and remember standing and gawking at the cockpit and flight engineer panel and thinking what a privilege it would have been to be a crew member on such a historic of first flight. I had a Boeing 314 for FSX which I enjoyed thoroughly. Would like to see that ported to FS2020.
Fun fact, the tail span is 113 ft 6 inches which is 10 inches wider then the main wings off a 737-600!
Did a test flight on this thing in mfs2020 last night, it was freaking amazing. Microsoft did a really good job on this model.
Haven’t play the MSFS for while and today just selected this Goose in Brisbane air port. She never let me fly and searched this video. Damn. It meant to be on the ocean. Thanks.
I'm thoroughly impressed with this update. It's finally added stuff I want to fly.
I wish I could have experienced the era of the flying boat airliners. So many of those planes were just gorgeous inside and out. I would have loved to have had a chance to see this thing fly, and more like it had they made it to production. On another note, I would have loved to have flown on an honest to God airship as well. Even the Hindenburg. Just not on THAT flight.
Hard to believe it's been 40 years... and I was around for every bit of it! So I'm just sittin' here lappin' up every minute of it and chillin' with pizza and beer. Why oh why does it feel like Christmas...?!?! ;-)

If you're like me, you'd spend the 10 minutes figuring it out and come away with the biggest, proudest smile on your face......and then have another player in a Spruce Goose join you on takeoff! Today was amazing.

I actually saw this plane I believe evergreen museum in oregon. The thought of flying a boat is totally wrong. it is a floating 3 story building. the cargo hold is a gymnasium and their are office desks in the second floof

And entire empennage dang near fell off! If you go visit the Spruce Goose at the museum, you can see where it was repaired/reinforced - but it never flew again after the repairs were made.

You can visit the Hercules in a museum South of Portland or. Not sure if you het to sit in the cockpit but who knows?

Me too such a cool experience. My dad and two of my aunts took a roadtrip to see it. One of the best trips I've taken.
My real life airplane has 89 steps in the preflight....and then another 10 or so in the starting engines checklist until you hit the starter switch. Takes a good 30 minutes minimum to get the first engine running.

Love all the updates. Even though the game is relatively niche, and most people are getting it through gamepass, it will still have money pumped into it. Perks of being owned by a 2 trillion dollar company.

I wish this aircraft had an autopilot. I want to deliver some troops/supplies across the Atlantic to the European theater, but won't hand fly it.
Will she loop or barrel roll ? Can you fly her under a bridge ? What are the stall characteristics like ? You need to show us these now you are the "official" test pilot.

Great video mate. That aircraft is impressive, I'll be flying it shortly for the first time. Lately I been such a flying boat junkie. Ive lost track of how many flights i had with both the Dornier and the Marchetti. Ive flown those two aircraft all over the place and posted i don't even know how many shorts with them. So naturally, this Hercules H4 caught my eye more then once during update previews. Yep you guessed, im going to fly this thing everywhere. 😄

I found the airplane to be rather bare in functionality for a simulator. Since it's such an absolute icon of aviation I was sincerely hoping for a perfect replication, yet we don't even have working guages for the battery or APUs.
I look forward to mods for it

I started downloading at 10am, central this morning, and am only half way through. Painfully slow.
Download went fine but now the servers over here in Europe have been down for hours. :-/
In the US the servers came back on right before I left the house
tbh I should of expected most of the aircraft to be non-functional. This is an asobo aircraft after all, but guess the hype really outshined that.

@@andrewdavey1837 when your on the world map on the bottom click “more” then “open filters” and scroll down to the airports section and disable all of them except for “water runways” and they should pop up on the world map

How does one even attempt to learn how to fly this beast? The three people that ever flew it have been dead for decades, lol.
I keep hearing this term "study-level" and can't help but think it was invented by devs so they could still call it a "simulator" while giving us non-sim garbage. Almost nothing works. This is like bad alpha. Very sad this has become the norm. You seem way too happy that most of the things that make it a sim don't actually work.
It doesn't matter as long as it's fun. You must not be a fan of this game

Hate to be a Noob but how do I set it up to take off from water? When I pick custom over water it has me at 7000ft.

When I land in the water no matter how gentle it tells me I’ve crashed into the water? Playing on PC, any idea what’s going on or experienced this? I don’t have any mods on the game it’s completely stock from Microsoft.
I've found when landing on water shut off engines 2 and 3 then let is ever so slightly glide onto the water it might bounce a few times but for me it's never failed me for water landings
