I think a lot of people are misunderstanding me when it comes to my opinion on Thieves. I'm not shit talking them. I'm saying (at this current moment in the game) that they aren't the greatest choice because while they can be very engaging, they require too much for so little. A class doesn't need to be good for it to be fun, that is true. But there's a correlation between rewarding your play and enjoying the class. This video is about what class you SHOULD play. I don't think it's a good idea to play thief, that doesn't mean you CAN'T play thief. Remember what I said at the beginning of the video: play what you find fun. I made this video to talk about each class that I think is worth playing. This is meant to introduce you to the classes, not to tell you what you can and can't main. It's not like I'm the boss of you. I can't decide what you can and can't play :P

I really wanted to play thief seeing as I'm a huge rogue player, I just enjoy the class style, I switched to runeblade. Thief felt like a handicap for no real reward interms of dps.
I am really disturbed by the fact that magic guard is no longer a thing. Are you completely sure that there isn't any skill similar to magic guard where a proportion of the damage goes to the mp?

OK.. so you do not play Thief and yet somehow claim it is not fun?! Thief is hella fun, well at least the hybrid one shot PvP build I run, also you are terribly mistaken on thieves defense. while you dont have any source of healing, you have a 12s shield which reduces 26- 70% of damage u take (depends on skill level) on 1min cooldown. you also have your incredibly strong dodge passive, which on max level will make you dodge about 20-30% of enemy attacks ;)
CORRECTION: Rune Blader DOES have a party buff (which is really strong) but still not a very good party class. I also believe my description of Wizard was a bit premature. But I still stand by it as being a very strong backline DPS.
I'm tired of all these people who don't even main thief cyber-bullying us :,( No but in all seriousness, we do have ONE build that CAN output dps, but we're wayy too hard to play. Also, the poison build isn't the highest dps. Not by a long shot.
I suggest looking at maple weeb's guide to thieves to see that we aren't useless, just nearly. (Also I output dps similar to archers/mages etc, but no where near assassins, and I'm not a good thief)
I don't normally like healers and usually prefer tanky classes but I've been having a lot of fun with priest. The dps so far (I'm currently level 39) is terrible but I've managed to solo pretty well due to being nearly invincible with my healing. Your damage doesn't really matter if the enemy can't kill you.
I have one level 54 and the damage really is bad against bosses and such but if you fight against mobs you just have to group them all up together hit them with celestial light and spam your holy blast. Once you get Sanctuary you can add that just before spamming holy blast and even further you can get angelic ray. It gives you really good wave clear and for dungeon bosses you just have to team up with others.
As a berserker main, I can attest the usefulness of a priest. Dungeons and raids (the ones I've done, anyway) can definitely be done without a priest, but it requires actual game play mechanics, some knowledge in your class, not fat-fingering buttons, and not lagging (particularly raids). With a priest, you're pretty much set. If the priest is doing his job, you will not die. Like, you have to want to die, or have to be extremely stupid in order to die with a priest in your party. On that note, I wish there were more types of healers but with a different theme. Priest should always be the full support type. There should be other healers like ones that focus more on buffs and debuffs while still able to put out decent healing. Or a healer that deals more damage than it can do in healing.
That's a tough call. Right now, especially because skill-point reallocation is free, Priests are able to both solo dungeons and play as full supports on the same character. This allows players to level their Priest characters without having to depend on having a party at all times, but still allows them to return to their traditional role whenever needed. As a Priest main myself, I think this flexibility is really good, and locking Priests into full support will make it far less pleasant to grind.
There's a class coming out in December that does some healing (soulbinder or something) but I don't think it'll replace priests because of their holy symbol
I went into the game blind for more fun and ended up with thief. Got halfway through and started looking for builds. Turns out they are incredibly mechanically intensive. Have to string combos together like no other, but has insane mobility, so once you master that, you won't be getting hit very often. Since it is my first class, i brought it to level 60 and will show it love, but I agree that it could use some damage boosting. Also the luck vs crit rate argument is huge in thief discussions. No one really knows the best build.
I have tried both at level 50, and still can't figure out which one is better, so I just go with which ever one I have more unused puns for at the time since I play with friends.
Are there any other ways at procing Cunning other than Double Slash and the Active for it? Thief fits my playstyle the most out of the classes and I enjoy it a lot, but the stuff around Cunning are mildly frustrating. :c
For me wizard is the easiest class to play mechanically (compared to my zerker and sin), you just macro flame wave and swipes, then spam the tornado off cooldown...their dash is unfairly good too (again, just comparing to my sin and zerker) as you can dash through the boss. This is HUGE. Can't tell you how many times I get hit by mobs/bosses on sin because I get body blocked
Wizards take an insane amount of damage though, and no matter how good of a player you are, it requires a huge amount of skill to use the dash skill since you honestly will die in a few hits without it. I agree though, the dash is very very good.

I said all I needed to say, thieves have too high a skill floor just to be viable and even higher of a skill ceiling to reach. You can accomplish everything a thief can on a different class for half the work. In what part of the video am I "trolling"? I made this entire video with serious intent.
You have to understand that people aren't seeing your video to know what's the best at dps cause if so a simple google would answer it fast they came to see the class it self what it does how it plays out Which you did with all except thief, that you just went around and kinda said this is trash don't bother and even if that may be right it's not all you have to say about it, because the class itself creates a challenge and it's viable because the game ain't that hard but perfectionists will always kick them it is also truth You said what needed to be said but you could've used other words cause it's 2k18 and everything triggers everyone i guess Much love
Saint he simply said play what you found fun and just gave his opinion of it at the end with thief. He also said if you like it then sure try it but it will be hard, he never said “don’t even touch this class it’s absolute trash and should be deleted off the game” . I swear people bitch and moan about anything these days that probably were wrong about too... either way this video was pretty good to me, whose trying to get into the game.
Thief is like the opening segment of Kingdom Hearts. But instead of picking a sword, wand, or shield, you say fuggit and rip one of the podiums out of the ground.
Also they have a single ability to just kick things. It reminds me of the pirate from the first game. Shame I could never get to play as brawler because I had to focus on school.

Fun little video, thanks! I main archer myself, and have been going back and forth between Wizard and Runeblader. While I totally see where you're coming from with thief. Even so, I'm really enjoying the class and find that for a game as easy (or at the very least, casual) as MS2, big DeePS aren't super crucial. Any other melee can do thief's job - a damage role - better, sure. But games that are this simple make being non-optimal more... approachable, I guess? Thief's awakening also offers a LOT more to their kit. An extra layer of "this class is hard, open wide" can be refrefreshing. I dunno. Like you said, "Play what you find fun." P.S. its just becaus most thiefs arent good and just lack dps if you know what you are doing on thief you can easy do high dps my friend mains assasin but i still out dps him even tho he has beter gear but i do need to work like twice as hard for it
woah woah, Nobody hates dragoons, It's just a meme because titan made dragoons go sploosh. Dragoons are one of the best raid dps's. Nobody will deny a good dragoon on their team, i'm a professional pole dancer.

It's really unfortunate since the class fantasy of Berserker really resonates with me (super tanky, selfish, and high dps) but my problem with it is that I just don't enjoy the class mechanically. Spinning to 10 stacks and spamming ground breaker gives me no satisfaction because of how mechanically easy it is. Knights have the opposite problem where I feel like at least I have some cooldowns, sp, and support skills to micromanage but the idea of being the team's support/tank just isn't appealing to me. So I guess what I want to ask you is from a pure gameplay perspective, what do you think is the most engaging/fun class in GMS2?
Well I personally like to play Heavy Gunner it's my 2nd character, and the reason why I choose him is that he has high Single target and AoE dps. Oh and he basically has a BFG :D
I feel quite the same way! I played Berserker/Slayer in Tera and I'm feeling dissapointed in MS2's Berserker. Currently leveling a runeblader at this moment, for its versatility.
I picked priest because it fits my playstyle as a cleric and now my in-game friends are saying like "oh, you chosed Priest because it's meta" -.-' Good video btw! A few misconceptions about some classes, but overall very instructive. ^^ I'm gonna go ahead and make a Knight alt now that i'm lvl 60.
@@Zenislav If i go damage build, with a plain epic lvl 50 weapon, i'm dealing 40k damage with Angelic Ray (Our nuke), that's with 2.1k gear score. Now imagine when i upgrade it. So yeah, it increases drastically.
Wizard doesn't struggle with sp and has little to no comboing, its highest dps is just spamming fire tornado off cooldown and flame wave which isn't super heavy.
If played with combos then yeah no problem. But the average so cost is pretty high. Spamming fire tornado is yeah a flame wave is like meh in my case. Don't really like it but it's useful when using it with an micro key for the animation cancelling.
I found that Fire/Ice holds more sustained damage for raids but Fire/Lightning is better for mobbing. As far as I know, lighting is high in dps but it has a high cast time + uses a lot of sp. fire has a lot of animation canceling and good dps with low sp cost. ice doesnt have an much dps and some of the cast times imo are kinda high but it can freeze... but its a nice thing to have. (and if i messed up explaining any of these feel free to correct me).
Being a thief main myself, i can say in the truly potent hands, a thief can be a scary class to play. The posion damage, management of abilites, and extra mobility is a playstyle I think people can enjoy. You say that its a video that what you think people SHOULD play, yet, by not acknowledging a character before truly understanding why it shines just as bright as other classes, makes your video an opinion and less informative . I completely respect that said opinion but for those people that truly yearn for that challenge the thief will bring to the table like players such as me, you should at least try to put yourself in the shoes of people woth different interests. Props to the vid tho. Well explained about everything else

Great video, but it looks like you mixed up the terms "Ranger" and "Archer", as "Archer" is the specific class while "Ranger" is the class type which includes Heavy Gunner.
There are some things I think you missed / I disagree with: - Range con: the dash uses more than half your stamina. They get a second dash (a jump back) but it's not very good at avoiding damage. - Heavy Gunner pro: They do not have any ranged SP regen attacks. They only get 1 self buff that gives SP. - Mage: Mages are not too hard to play efficiently. They have a varied kit, but you'll end up using 2 skills throughout your life. This is one of the most beginner friendly classes because it has a triple teleport, great AoE and very few mechanics to keep in mind. as far as thieves are concerned: Pros: - very fast animations - Good party buff (haste is great, it buffs attack speed) Cons: - To RNG reliant for a lot of it (cunning proc on their first ability) - Their mobility is not straight forward (multiple dashes, but they all have a cooldown of 3s or more) - Squishy, which is detrimental to a melee class - very short range. When compared to the Runeblader, who fills essentially the same role, their range is abysmally small. I do hope they'll improve the thief though, she's my cutest character :(
RB have the highest DPS in my opninion when it come to melee class and yes they're OP if you know how to control it movement with skill and know to get it secret SP build. I was able to solo Tronix Bunker dungeon in 5 min (SOLO). Recommend: 2.5k GS Lighting buff: weak but stronger then Fire buff and has the highest DPS Ice buff: strongest out of all 3 buff but slow and 2nd highest DPS Fire buff: weak and have the lowest DPS but can be usefull
Wish I watched your video first, I chose thief first and leveled it into it's 50's where now if I lag even a frame during a boss fight I'm usually dead.
As someone who's been playing thief since the free release, I can safely say that with the right builds I'm putting out maybe 10% less damage than my berserker teammate. Sure, they may be the undisputed king of wave clearing but there's a lot of ways for thieves to stay on track with dps. The abilities they have at hand may not seem great at first, but when combining them in specific forms they're able to output a pretty respectable dps. I'm running a blade dance build and despite it's large consumption of sp, adding some normal attacks in between allows you to constantly do multiple attacks and the odd somersault kick here and there that has pretty big boost in damage. Throw on your haste ability and the process is speeds up even more. If we're going to use an example, let's use the popular Tronix Bunker dungeon. On an average run, me and my friends usually seem to beat it pretty easily considering we don't have a priest yet in our party. We run Wizard, Thief, Assassin and Berserker. Our runeblade is currently still leveling so we can't bring him into play yet. As it stands, our berserker is usually the one coming out with the highest dps on the boss around 70% of the time (as it tends to show on the victory screen after the boss is defeated), the other 30% generally sees the damage split evenly between us other three. I understand thief is a difficult class to play and many people diss it because it really isn't "beginner friendly". This isn't a post to say "Hey! Play thief, it's a great class!" This is a post to clear up a lot of misconception. Thieves can be great, but you need to be able to adapt to their playstyle. I'd definitely advise starting out as a thief if you haven't played any similar classes before in other MMO RPGs. Get used to the assassin first and then if you're willing to try, go give thief a shot and see how they play and whether you like it or not. I love the class and it can be very beneficial in the right scenarios. They're flexible but not easy to use which is good because maybe you don't want something that's extremely beginner friendly and carries you through the entire game. They provide a challenge and that's what's great about them. \ My opinion on the class may differ from a lot of people's, but don't knock the class until you try and see how you can play it. If anybody else mains thief and wants to give their opinion, I'm happy to hear it and speak about it. *Also thieves have an ability where we have to pay 770 mesos to summon a shield. We are the epitome of p2w* - this is just a joke, don't take it seriously. But that has got to be the most jokes ability in the game.
Does Runeblader have any dodge skills that can phase thro enemies? cuz there dodge skill cant phase thro enemies like other classes can and thats a big no for me

Oh... I literally went to sleep yesterday thinking what should I make my alt, and I'm still kinda lost tbh :D. Honestly thiefs aren't that bad, they are just hard, but they are the best dps class on kms2, so once we get awakenings and lvl 70 thiefs are gonna become one of the best classes.
The heal of the Heavy gunner is so usefull in hard fight without the need of a healer. Like the Balrog when he do his aoe stun wave just when he start his animation but before the stun everyone can stay in front of him and with the delay of the Med kit everyone can survive with 50% hp ( but with its long cooldown you can only heal like that for the 1st and 3rd aoe so the 2nd need to be tank without healing ). Or you have 2 HG and Balrog can be done with only DPS ^^
me and my friend want to play the game but im not sure if i want a class that only heals allies and tickles enemies. my friend chose berserker so i think we should synergize. any suggestions?
thief is my third class, and I can say this: thief early game is very unforgiving, but personally I find it very thrilling, especially in boss battles.
Choose a class you have fun with... Heavy Gunner, i love her english voice and her crazy character XD, and i love well... gun makes things go boom lmao, although I do also like being able to heal the tank a bit x3. (only play sometimes with another"^^, but it all counts)
Wizard #1!!! Well, I’ve played Wizard for a LONG time, and as far as I’m concerned, Flame Burst is used to mob in a wide area/debuff, Flame Tornado is a huge DPS skill, Ice Spear is faster than Flame Burst, Ice Strike is good for stunning as well as some good damage. Electrical skills are more of a burst, as Chain Lightning can only be maintained for a few seconds before running out of Spirit. Thunderbolt is also a good skill for damage dealing and has properties from Chain Lightning. Teleport is good for maneuvering around the map and is excellent for dodging, however if you react too late the presumed attack will still activate on you, so you have to learn to dodge accurately. Phantom Claw is also a pretty strong skill, so it shouldn’t be neglected as it can fill in pretty well when you don’t have enough Spirit for your skills. Focus Seal is an ok support skill, and Magic Armor provides a short duration shield that protects you from damage. However, because it has a short duration you have to micromanage by using it at the right time. Arcane Blast is an ok skill, not very good but not terrible. On the other hand, Mana Claw is a terrible skill. Do NOT spend any SP on it, it is absolutely terrible. (It might be ok now, I only did tests during CBT1.)
He’s right if you wanna play thieves you gotta put in the effort. The best way I find it work is doing the combos with the poison skills and then being able to do somersault kick to add in the extra damage and then use blade dance for fast dps
Almost every end game mage guide has said that going pure fire is the ONLY way to go or else you lose out on 10k or so DPS (which sounds like alot). If that is the case, it makes wizards less dynamic than they appear. Would you say that pure fire is the only viable way to go if you want even comparable dps?
Is there a strategy into assigning AP, like how it was during the early years of MS1, or do you pour all you AP into your main stats like how it is with the current MS1?
I went into this game blind but I studied the descriptions of each character to find the hardest one or one I enjoy by past RPG experience. Couldn't find the hardest one due to lack of information so I went for fun. Well, in most RPG and hank-in-slash, anytime I see "Thief" class, BABY I GO STRAIGHT FOR IT :D. I like to dodge to stay alive for the thrill and watch my enemies die as I cut them with poison, resulting in a slow and painful death >:). Or to take the time to enjoy and praise the developers for making a game with such beautiful graphics and an amazing art-style :3
I'll say Thief is a good choice if you have good mechs, else take another class. Thief is fun but isn't the best moment to play that class, just wait for awakening and try any build ;). Tip: Lvl up a thief and learn how to play now and improve ur mech as ALT CLASS. Pick another class for MAIN. Thx for read and sorry for my englando.
For rune blade, the different elements give you different play styles. The fire is more consistent dps, Ice does less hits but does more damage per hit and the lightning is good at burst and mobbing and on some skills they have a reduced cooldown. And also while in lightning mode i think you have increased crit damage. I noticed this when using echoing blade the damage per hit in fire mode is higher but the damage when getting a crit was lower when compared to lightning mode.
Wait, berserkers have a passive heal?? Wtf where? Bc I main one and I only have one ACTIVE heal which sucks bc if I miss it, I’m boned until it comes back up from 5 sec cool down.
Anyone that is dissuaded from playing thief because this shit thinks its too hard or not rewarding enough needs to listen to what I have to say. Thief is harder than the other classes yes, but with enough practice the rotations that are "hard" become second nature and really isn't that difficult to do. Thieves do no dps for newer players because they haven't honed their rotations or care enough to look up the best abilities to cycle or build to use. I constantly out dps other classes when I do cdev and we are somewhat equally geared. Thief isn't bad. If you are looking to be a thief main I suggest you first look up the best builds and guides from the best thieves. "Friend" and "MrShiny" are both good thieves to learn from and they both play different styles of thieves.
Except for bdo this is my first mmo where my first character wasn't priest or healer. Tho the only reason was that gunner looked really steampunk and i think priest will still be my main....
I kinda wished you showed gameplay for each individual class in the background during their gameplay. An important part of picking a favourite is game-feel, which is hard to get an idea of just from descriptions, which is why having gameplay video in the background would’ve helped. As it is, only some classes have their gameplay, and it isn’t stated which ones. Apart from that, really great guide. Plenty of detail and explanation
pve fire, earth blow that bitch then spam flame blades and autoattack when mana low. the mass cutting blades look cool and have good dps but won't allow a decent rotation + will drain the mana you need for stronger skill. also use the skill that casts 5 blades on you as a low cost side dps. you wanna spec down the first 2 brances for dps and pick up that critt aura in lategame
I feel that every player should roll a Zerk alongside their main class even if they want to main something else. While it's arguably a bit overtuned, I'd prefer to look at it as a standard PVE grinding alt. Netflix and spin and all that and save your real fun time for a more challenging class if you prefer.
I just chose Runeblader cuz even though I have friends that play, I’m usually the one behind so I just went solo all the time. So far I’m not regretting it
I recently downloaded this game, i've still got less than an hour played (i chose the knight), but i could see me getting really into this game. A lot of games aren't fun in the beginning but it seemed different, it seemed good. The graphics i love and overall from what i played its good. (Now remember i have less than an hour played so don't take what i said too seriously)
Wizards aren’t hard to play effectively, the best dps build only requires using flame wave/tornado on a macro which allows them to hold a direction to cast flame wave faster than normal, then use claw when out of sp. I’m fairly sure wizards dps is almost right next to assassins because of this. Another thing is that I believe wizards have the best dash in he game since it’s an instant blink, allowing you to go through mobs AND cancel any animation of yours AND it can be used up to 3 times in quick succession.
Awesome video man. If only more priests understood their role in a party.. life would be great But no, gotta get more priests trying to DPS in a hard dungeon than actual support priests.
potentially thieves have the highest dps in the game, the problem being is that to get there you have to overcome a really high skill cap and are by far the most difficult class in the game to play well, due to their spammy nature and the difficulty in getting their combos off while being in melee range all the time while doing it.
ive played WOW and Guild Wars 2 but then i started playing maplestory 2 and i dont know why but i just love this game, my first character was a Priest but since im smart after i made it to level 24 i decided to start a heavy gunner so when we dont need the priest i can be a main dps so im more diverse, im thinking once i get both characters to about level 50 im gonna make a beserker class, can anyone who has played this game have any advice on what i should do all advice is needed since i just started playing and only have about 7-8 hours in the game.
Go the poison route. If you like thief, it's probably because it is complex and is the only class that has a enhancing proccing skill. So why not go the most complex route. With poison it's not just "Oh the procc happened let's use viscious cuts". Nono, when you go the poison route you have to do it like this "Oh I got my procc, Well how many seconds are there on my poisons? If it's low lets reapply poison blow. If it's high let's first use poison vial and suprise attack."
even MrShiny64 doesnt suggest rolling a thief.. he said it take multiple times more work to get the same dmg output as other classes when I asked him on stream
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around this game. I've played most traditional MMOs. Never played ms1. In ms2 I love the look but I feel like there's so much going on. I'm almost level 20 and I still have no idea what's happening. There's so much going on on the screen. I also wish the controls were more similar to Diablo 3. I've been playing with an Xbox controller which is fine but further distances me from the MMOs feeling. I'm gonna keep playing and hope things start to make more sense.

OK.. so you do not play Thief and yet somehow claim it is not fun?! Thief is hella fun, well at least the hybrid one shot PvP build I run, also you are terribly mistaken on thieves defense. while you dont have any source of healing, you have a 12s shield which reduces 26- 70% of damage u take (depends on skill level) on 1min cooldown. you also have your incredibly strong dodge passive, which on max level will make you dodge about 20-30% of enemy attacks ;)

I don't normally like healers and usually prefer tanky classes but I've been having a lot of fun with priest. The dps so far (I'm currently level 39) is terrible but I've managed to solo pretty well due to being nearly invincible with my healing. Your damage doesn't really matter if the enemy can't kill you.
I have one level 54 and the damage really is bad against bosses and such but if you fight against mobs you just have to group them all up together hit them with celestial light and spam your holy blast. Once you get Sanctuary you can add that just before spamming holy blast and even further you can get angelic ray. It gives you really good wave clear and for dungeon bosses you just have to team up with others.

As a berserker main, I can attest the usefulness of a priest. Dungeons and raids (the ones I've done, anyway) can definitely be done without a priest, but it requires actual game play mechanics, some knowledge in your class, not fat-fingering buttons, and not lagging (particularly raids). With a priest, you're pretty much set. If the priest is doing his job, you will not die. Like, you have to want to die, or have to be extremely stupid in order to die with a priest in your party.
On that note, I wish there were more types of healers but with a different theme. Priest should always be the full support type. There should be other healers like ones that focus more on buffs and debuffs while still able to put out decent healing. Or a healer that deals more damage than it can do in healing.
How does "bard" as an extra heal/support class sound ?
Bards were never traditionally healers of any type, but sure, why not? They're very well known for their strong party buffs.
That's a tough call. Right now, especially because skill-point reallocation is free, Priests are able to both solo dungeons and play as full supports on the same character. This allows players to level their Priest characters without having to depend on having a party at all times, but still allows them to return to their traditional role whenever needed. As a Priest main myself, I think this flexibility is really good, and locking Priests into full support will make it far less pleasant to grind.

I went into the game blind for more fun and ended up with thief. Got halfway through and started looking for builds. Turns out they are incredibly mechanically intensive. Have to string combos together like no other, but has insane mobility, so once you master that, you won't be getting hit very often. Since it is my first class, i brought it to level 60 and will show it love, but I agree that it could use some damage boosting. Also the luck vs crit rate argument is huge in thief discussions. No one really knows the best build.
I have tried both at level 50, and still can't figure out which one is better, so I just go with which ever one I have more unused puns for at the time since I play with friends.

I run the poison only build, it gets rough at times especially when theyre poison resistant enemies, but it's pretty good tbh

Thief fits my playstyle the most out of the classes and I enjoy it a lot, but the stuff around Cunning are mildly frustrating. :c
For me wizard is the easiest class to play mechanically (compared to my zerker and sin), you just macro flame wave and swipes, then spam the tornado off cooldown...their dash is unfairly good too (again, just comparing to my sin and zerker) as you can dash through the boss. This is HUGE. Can't tell you how many times I get hit by mobs/bosses on sin because I get body blocked
Wizards take an insane amount of damage though, and no matter how good of a player you are, it requires a huge amount of skill to use the dash skill since you honestly will die in a few hits without it. I agree though, the dash is very very good.

I said all I needed to say, thieves have too high a skill floor just to be viable and even higher of a skill ceiling to reach. You can accomplish everything a thief can on a different class for half the work.

I main archer myself, and have been going back and forth between Wizard and Runeblader. While I totally see where you're coming from with thief. Even so, I'm really enjoying the class and find that for a game as easy (or at the very least, casual) as MS2, big DeePS aren't super crucial. Any other melee can do thief's job - a damage role - better, sure. But games that are this simple make being non-optimal more... approachable, I guess? Thief's awakening also offers a LOT more to their kit. An extra layer of "this class is hard, open wide" can be refrefreshing.

After playing berserker for a while, I have decided that the only worthwhile attack is the spin.
It's really unfortunate since the class fantasy of Berserker really resonates with me (super tanky, selfish, and high dps) but my problem with it is that I just don't enjoy the class mechanically. Spinning to 10 stacks and spamming ground breaker gives me no satisfaction because of how mechanically easy it is. Knights have the opposite problem where I feel like at least I have some cooldowns, sp, and support skills to micromanage but the idea of being the team's support/tank just isn't appealing to me. So I guess what I want to ask you is from a pure gameplay perspective, what do you think is the most engaging/fun class in GMS2?
Thief, but isn't recommended omegalul. Still gonna play it though. Cuz after it gets buffed well I'll be the one thief with gear xD

Well I personally like to play Heavy Gunner it's my 2nd character, and the reason why I choose him is that he has high Single target and AoE dps. Oh and he basically has a BFG :D

@@Zenislav If i go damage build, with a plain epic lvl 50 weapon, i'm dealing 40k damage with Angelic Ray (Our nuke), that's with 2.1k gear score. Now imagine when i upgrade it. So yeah, it increases drastically.

Wizard doesn't struggle with sp and has little to no comboing, its highest dps is just spamming fire tornado off cooldown and flame wave which isn't super heavy.

If played with combos then yeah no problem. But the average so cost is pretty high. Spamming fire tornado is yeah a flame wave is like meh in my case. Don't really like it but it's useful when using it with an micro key for the animation cancelling.

I found that Fire/Ice holds more sustained damage for raids but Fire/Lightning is better for mobbing. As far as I know, lighting is high in dps but it has a high cast time + uses a lot of sp. fire has a lot of animation canceling and good dps with low sp cost. ice doesnt have an much dps and some of the cast times imo are kinda high but it can freeze... but its a nice thing to have. (and if i messed up explaining any of these feel free to correct me).

Being a thief main myself, i can say in the truly potent hands, a thief can be a scary class to play. The posion damage, management of abilites, and extra mobility is a playstyle I think people can enjoy. You say that its a video that what you think people SHOULD play, yet, by not acknowledging a character before truly understanding why it shines just as bright as other classes, makes your video an opinion and less informative . I completely respect that said opinion but for those people that truly yearn for that challenge the thief will bring to the table like players such as me, you should at least try to put yourself in the shoes of people woth different interests. Props to the vid tho. Well explained about everything else

Great video, but it looks like you mixed up the terms "Ranger" and "Archer", as "Archer" is the specific class while "Ranger" is the class type which includes Heavy Gunner.
There are some things I think you missed / I disagree with:
- Range con: the dash uses more than half your stamina. They get a second dash (a jump back) but it's not very good at avoiding damage.
- Heavy Gunner pro: They do not have any ranged SP regen attacks. They only get 1 self buff that gives SP.
- Mage: Mages are not too hard to play efficiently. They have a varied kit, but you'll end up using 2 skills throughout your life. This is one of the most beginner friendly classes because it has a triple teleport, great AoE and very few mechanics to keep in mind.
as far as thieves are concerned:
Pros:
- very fast animations
- Good party buff (haste is great, it buffs attack speed)
Cons:
- To RNG reliant for a lot of it (cunning proc on their first ability)
- Their mobility is not straight forward (multiple dashes, but they all have a cooldown of 3s or more)
- Squishy, which is detrimental to a melee class
- very short range. When compared to the Runeblader, who fills essentially the same role, their range is abysmally small.
I do hope they'll improve the thief though, she's my cutest character :(

RB have the highest DPS in my opninion when it come to melee class and yes they're OP if you know how to control it movement with skill and know to get it secret SP build. I was able to solo Tronix Bunker dungeon in 5 min (SOLO).
Recommend: 2.5k GS
Lighting buff: weak but stronger then Fire buff and has the highest DPS
Ice buff: strongest out of all 3 buff but slow and 2nd highest DPS
Fire buff: weak and have the lowest DPS but can be usefull

Wish I watched your video first, I chose thief first and leveled it into it's 50's where now if I lag even a frame during a boss fight I'm usually dead.
As someone who's been playing thief since the free release, I can safely say that with the right builds I'm putting out maybe 10% less damage than my berserker teammate. Sure, they may be the undisputed king of wave clearing but there's a lot of ways for thieves to stay on track with dps. The abilities they have at hand may not seem great at first, but when combining them in specific forms they're able to output a pretty respectable dps. I'm running a blade dance build and despite it's large consumption of sp, adding some normal attacks in between allows you to constantly do multiple attacks and the odd somersault kick here and there that has pretty big boost in damage. Throw on your haste ability and the process is speeds up even more. If we're going to use an example, let's use the popular Tronix Bunker dungeon. On an average run, me and my friends usually seem to beat it pretty easily considering we don't have a priest yet in our party. We run Wizard, Thief, Assassin and Berserker. Our runeblade is currently still leveling so we can't bring him into play yet. As it stands, our berserker is usually the one coming out with the highest dps on the boss around 70% of the time (as it tends to show on the victory screen after the boss is defeated), the other 30% generally sees the damage split evenly between us other three. I understand thief is a difficult class to play and many people diss it because it really isn't "beginner friendly".
This isn't a post to say "Hey! Play thief, it's a great class!" This is a post to clear up a lot of misconception. Thieves can be great, but you need to be able to adapt to their playstyle. I'd definitely advise starting out as a thief if you haven't played any similar classes before in other MMO RPGs. Get used to the assassin first and then if you're willing to try, go give thief a shot and see how they play and whether you like it or not. I love the class and it can be very beneficial in the right scenarios. They're flexible but not easy to use which is good because maybe you don't want something that's extremely beginner friendly and carries you through the entire game. They provide a challenge and that's what's great about them. \
My opinion on the class may differ from a lot of people's, but don't knock the class until you try and see how you can play it. If anybody else mains thief and wants to give their opinion, I'm happy to hear it and speak about it.
*Also thieves have an ability where we have to pay 770 mesos to summon a shield. We are the epitome of p2w* - this is just a joke, don't take it seriously. But that has got to be the most jokes ability in the game.

The heal of the Heavy gunner is so usefull in hard fight without the need of a healer. Like the Balrog when he do his aoe stun wave just when he start his animation but before the stun everyone can stay in front of him and with the delay of the Med kit everyone can survive with 50% hp ( but with its long cooldown you can only heal like that for the 1st and 3rd aoe so the 2nd need to be tank without healing ). Or you have 2 HG and Balrog can be done with only DPS ^^
me and my friend want to play the game but im not sure if i want a class that only heals allies and tickles enemies. my friend chose berserker so i think we should synergize. any suggestions?
berserker can work pretty well with a backline DPS like a wizard or ranger :)
thief is my third class, and I can say this: thief early game is very unforgiving, but personally I find it very thrilling, especially in boss battles.

Well, I’ve played Wizard for a LONG time, and as far as I’m concerned, Flame Burst is used to mob in a wide area/debuff, Flame Tornado is a huge DPS skill, Ice Spear is faster than Flame Burst, Ice Strike is good for stunning as well as some good damage. Electrical skills are more of a burst, as Chain Lightning can only be maintained for a few seconds before running out of Spirit. Thunderbolt is also a good skill for damage dealing and has properties from Chain Lightning. Teleport is good for maneuvering around the map and is excellent for dodging, however if you react too late the presumed attack will still activate on you, so you have to learn to dodge accurately. Phantom Claw is also a pretty strong skill, so it shouldn’t be neglected as it can fill in pretty well when you don’t have enough Spirit for your skills. Focus Seal is an ok support skill, and Magic Armor provides a short duration shield that protects you from damage. However, because it has a short duration you have to micromanage by using it at the right time. Arcane Blast is an ok skill, not very good but not terrible. On the other hand, Mana Claw is a terrible skill. Do NOT spend any SP on it, it is absolutely terrible. (It might be ok now, I only did tests during CBT1.)
Phanton Claw does more damage than Mana Claw, so it is a waste of sp.

He’s right if you wanna play thieves you gotta put in the effort. The best way I find it work is doing the combos with the poison skills and then being able to do somersault kick to add in the extra damage and then use blade dance for fast dps

Almost every end game mage guide has said that going pure fire is the ONLY way to go or else you lose out on 10k or so DPS (which sounds like alot). If that is the case, it makes wizards less dynamic than they appear. Would you say that pure fire is the only viable way to go if you want even comparable dps?

I went into this game blind but I studied the descriptions of each character to find the hardest one or one I enjoy by past RPG experience. Couldn't find the hardest one due to lack of information so I went for fun. Well, in most RPG and hank-in-slash, anytime I see "Thief" class, BABY I GO STRAIGHT FOR IT :D. I like to dodge to stay alive for the thrill and watch my enemies die as I cut them with poison, resulting in a slow and painful death >:). Or to take the time to enjoy and praise the developers for making a game with such beautiful graphics and an amazing art-style :3

I'll say Thief is a good choice if you have good mechs, else take another class. Thief is fun but isn't the best moment to play that class, just wait for awakening and try any build ;).
Tip: Lvl up a thief and learn how to play now and improve ur mech as ALT CLASS. Pick another class for MAIN.

For rune blade, the different elements give you different play styles. The fire is more consistent dps, Ice does less hits but does more damage per hit and the lightning is good at burst and mobbing and on some skills they have a reduced cooldown. And also while in lightning mode i think you have increased crit damage. I noticed this when using echoing blade the damage per hit in fire mode is higher but the damage when getting a crit was lower when compared to lightning mode.
Wait, berserkers have a passive heal?? Wtf where? Bc I main one and I only have one ACTIVE heal which sucks bc if I miss it, I’m boned until it comes back up from 5 sec cool down.
Anyone that is dissuaded from playing thief because this shit thinks its too hard or not rewarding enough needs to listen to what I have to say. Thief is harder than the other classes yes, but with enough practice the rotations that are "hard" become second nature and really isn't that difficult to do. Thieves do no dps for newer players because they haven't honed their rotations or care enough to look up the best abilities to cycle or build to use. I constantly out dps other classes when I do cdev and we are somewhat equally geared. Thief isn't bad. If you are looking to be a thief main I suggest you first look up the best builds and guides from the best thieves. "Friend" and "MrShiny" are both good thieves to learn from and they both play different styles of thieves.

I kinda wished you showed gameplay for each individual class in the background during their gameplay. An important part of picking a favourite is game-feel, which is hard to get an idea of just from descriptions, which is why having gameplay video in the background would’ve helped. As it is, only some classes have their gameplay, and it isn’t stated which ones.

pve fire, earth blow that bitch then spam flame blades and autoattack when mana low. the mass cutting blades look cool and have good dps but won't allow a decent rotation + will drain the mana you need for stronger skill. also use the skill that casts 5 blades on you as a low cost side dps.
you wanna spec down the first 2 brances for dps and pick up that critt aura in lategame
I feel that every player should roll a Zerk alongside their main class even if they want to main something else. While it's arguably a bit overtuned, I'd prefer to look at it as a standard PVE grinding alt. Netflix and spin and all that and save your real fun time for a more challenging class if you prefer.

I would recommend to play what you like and as second class, a class that holds two weapons cause you get 2100gs easier and can boost your income.
I just chose Runeblader cuz even though I have friends that play, I’m usually the one behind so I just went solo all the time. So far I’m not regretting it
What music is playing?
I recently downloaded this game, i've still got less than an hour played (i chose the knight), but i could see me getting really into this game. A lot of games aren't fun in the beginning but it seemed different, it seemed good. The graphics i love and overall from what i played its good. (Now remember i have less than an hour played so don't take what i said too seriously)
Wizards aren’t hard to play effectively, the best dps build only requires using flame wave/tornado on a macro which allows them to hold a direction to cast flame wave faster than normal, then use claw when out of sp. I’m fairly sure wizards dps is almost right next to assassins because of this. Another thing is that I believe wizards have the best dash in he game since it’s an instant blink, allowing you to go through mobs AND cancel any animation of yours AND it can be used up to 3 times in quick succession.

just started playing and im loving it
potentially thieves have the highest dps in the game, the problem being is that to get there you have to overcome a really high skill cap and are by far the most difficult class in the game to play well, due to their spammy nature and the difficulty in getting their combos off while being in melee range all the time while doing it.
Thieves can be the strongest class in the game. But the amount of hoops you have to jump through is why it's not worth it LOL
ive played WOW and Guild Wars 2 but then i started playing maplestory 2 and i dont know why but i just love this game, my first character was a Priest but since im smart after i made it to level 24 i decided to start a heavy gunner so when we dont need the priest i can be a main dps so im more diverse, im thinking once i get both characters to about level 50 im gonna make a beserker class, can anyone who has played this game have any advice on what i should do all advice is needed since i just started playing and only have about 7-8 hours in the game.

Go the poison route. If you like thief, it's probably because it is complex and is the only class that has a enhancing proccing skill. So why not go the most complex route. With poison it's not just "Oh the procc happened let's use viscious cuts". Nono, when you go the poison route you have to do it like this "Oh I got my procc, Well how many seconds are there on my poisons? If it's low lets reapply poison blow. If it's high let's first use poison vial and suprise attack."

even MrShiny64 doesnt suggest rolling a thief.. he said it take multiple times more work to get the same dmg output as other classes when I asked him on stream
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around this game. I've played most traditional MMOs. Never played ms1. In ms2 I love the look but I feel like there's so much going on. I'm almost level 20 and I still have no idea what's happening. There's so much going on on the screen. I also wish the controls were more similar to Diablo 3. I've been playing with an Xbox controller which is fine but further distances me from the MMOs feeling. I'm gonna keep playing and hope things start to make more sense.
