- Christina talks about having a very sick sense of humor, being diagnosed with MS in 2021, starting the podcast MeSsy with her friend Jamie-Lynn Sigler, her friendship with Martin Short, Marty reveals whether he likes Christina or Jimmy more, “audio descriptions” on reality shows, going to Coachella with her daughter, and Jimmy shows a great clip from 1981 of Christina in the movie Jaws of Satan as a nine-year-old.

So great to see Christina here, I’m glad she hasn’t lost her fighting spirit and sense of humor. “Dead To Me” is one of the best shows ever!
She played a real estate agent perfectly :) Love her, as a fellow real estate agent.
i love her, great human being, & brave beautiful soul. thanks Jimmy💙🌻🦋💎
Tits Mcgee was her best role. Anchorman 1 and 2.
Agreed and wasn’t the end beautiful?!
Loved Dead to me👌
My wife has been battling ms for 16 years. It’s a cruel disease that slowly takes away your life little by little. Keep fighting the good fight Christina!
My ex-wife was diagnosed with MS about a year after we split. I have spent the last decade since, wishing we had caught it so much sooner. It's a horrible disease, because it doesn't just affect them physically, but the cognitive, emotional, and personality changes leave the rest of us confused as to what's happening. Sadly, her form of coping has been alcoholism, so no matter how much someone loves and wants to help her, it's a pretty pointless effort. Everyone including our grown children have given up.
My wife also has MS along with her sister. She's 51 and was diagnosed 22 years ago. It has ravaged her, my kids, and me alike. I take care of her to make sure her quality of life is as good as I can control. Steroids really help, giving her a week or two of relief throughout the year, and letting me spend time with the woman that I used to know.
I (and her alike) have given ourselves permission to be angry at the disease, as an entity of its own, without getting frustrated with her as my wife, best friend and soulmate.
Keep fighting the good fight, I'm sure your wife is worth it. Lord knows she is, as is mine.
I GOT MS, MS HAS NOT GOT ME.
I was diagnosed 16years ago and it has physically affected so much especially since Covid.
I am quite a positive person and try to use my kids as motivation, especially as I was a working man but now I’m at home I get quality time I would never have with my kids which you don’t have get home at 6/7 not to mention the fact that I refuse to let my kids see me quit in the face of adversity.
@@Eric-qk3bk I feel ya buddy. Hang in there.
My wife 15 years and lost all ability to walk and use legs. She weighs 90 lbs can’t gain weight. I remember the days she could move like Christina and those days were short lived. It’s a horrible road to go down.
Still beautiful and funny after all these years . Nothing healthier than being able to laugh at ourselves no matter what life throws at us. Glad to see her tonight.
"Still beautiful" that's overstatement
i will never forget christina applegate in the chris farley down by the river skit where she just could not stop laughing. one of the best snl skits, ever!
Excellent memory!!!
👍
Yes but the truth is she could stop laughing. She was great.
MY fave also.
Christina s condition came from the killer clot shot. Wake up folks. Jesus saves!
So great to see Christina in public again. Looks like she has found peace, and is living life to the fullest once more
I was background in Anchorman 2, you're told to not approach the principle actors. Washing my hands in the ladies room I look up in the mirror and who walks up, Christina. She says " hi" shook I was like " hi there, I'm just playing it cool." She winks and says " me too" ...made my life. Love her ❤❤❤❤
Awesome story! Thanks for sharing! Christina's condition came from the killer clot shot. God bless you!
I love this because I had a similar experience with her. She is an incredibly magnetic woman!
Hey, would you mind telling me what company you’re with? I’m trying to get into background work.
If Christina would say something to me i would for sure answer something jibberisch like:'helloo who are you doobing" and then faint
‘Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead’ is one of my favorite movies from the early 90’s.
Oh my gosh, mine too!! 😊
One of my favourite lines from a movie 'The dishes are done man!' 😂
I can't do the dishes without saying "The dishes are done, man!"

Christina is truly a National Treasure. Best of luck on her podcast and best wishes on her health. So good to see her.
I'm from Canada, but I totally expected someone to say it!
Christina Applegate is a beautiful soul!! Her dance to Fever on Married With Children is still one of my favourite all time pieces of television!!!
1 of my favorite episodes also! She and the janitor were hot 💯🔥
She is a legitimate badass.
It’s really great to have role models for the chronically ill community there are several famous actresses and singers now that have been diagnosed with different chronic illnesses and I’ve seen all of them speak out about their conditions . As someone with 3 chronic illnesses it really means a lot and I love the way she copes .. you do end up with a bit of a twisted sense of humor because she’s right you cry enough .. you can’t spend all your time doing that ! So you fight , you find the small joys in life , you live in the moment , and you get a little pissy lol but laughter helps a ton ! Thank you for this interview Jimmy it really does make me feel less alone in the struggle .. extra prayers for Christina as she fights 🛡️⚔️🙏
🙏
🙏
Nicely put I am a gimp myself paralyzed from just above my armpits down and in constant pain but I have to laugh it off or I would cry 24 hours a day I wouldn't say I always have a dark sense of humor all the time because sometimes a light-hearted and loving sense of humor will come out and it will go all different ways but you just have to laugh and do your best to smile and make bad jokes sometimes they're even in bad taste LOL

I was just diagnosed with MS this year, I am so appreciative of people like Christina, Jamie, Selma etc for bringing light to MS and sharing their raw experience. It makes me feel less alone while I’m learning about this disease and feeling overwhelmed with it all.
Christina is such a inspiring, brave women!
Our thoughts are with you. Keep strong!
We love you, Christina ❤❤❤❤
YOU'VE GOT THIS!!!
That poor girl has been through so much. Had breast cancer & lost both breasts & now MS, but she tries to keep a positive & funny attitude. One of my best friend's died from MS. He was pretty much a vegetable when he died. Broke my heart. I wish her the best. She's still a doll.
She is very strong
Yes she is! I have a huge amount of respect for her. @@Shankar-Bhaskar
I just got diagnosed with a fatal lung disease. Like she said, it sucks. I don't wish it on anyone. But I am learning to live with it. And I've decided that for the rest of my now short life is to be happy and try to make others happy.
Wow. 😢
God bless you my friend, keep fighting 💪
Live like you're dying.

You are so incredibly brave and lovely to deal with that how you do. Thinking of you and sending love and strength through the universe. 😊
Blessings to you and your family! Don't give up, friend. Fight the good fight! God/Jesus is in control!
I've had two sisters with MS (one passed quite a while ago), so I passed on the podcast information to her. Thanks for having CA on the show.
I'm so sorry to read your comment. It's a very hard thing. My mom and her sister had it too. Both lived into their 80s. I think the impact of diet is underestimated, so maybe research that. ; ) I hope your sister knows she can still live a good long life.
WOW! I remember watching her on 'Married with Children' and my thoughts of her back then... time marches on and I feel much the same way for far different reasons. Such a beautiful person!
She still dresses and sits like she is a 1990s grunge rock era teen. I love it!
So glad that Christina is not letting her diagnosis keep her down.
👏👏👏👏👏
I don't know, I feel like it's all she ever talks about. Sounds like it does keep her down.
Until it does.
@@captainsubtext6772 Always discussing it does not equal it keeping her down. It is a disease that not only changes a person's life but is a constant reminder, quite literally, that tomorrow you might wake up and not be able to see or speak or do something normal like use the bathroom. It changes your life, and changes your perception of what the future even means. You don't get better, MS doesn't go away, it is guaranteed to get worse, and you cannot predict HOW it will affect you next.
@@captainsubtext6772 Yeah, she's kind of egotistical. My mother had MS. Diagnosed at 19 y.o in 1953. It was the last thing she'd talk about. My mother was too interesting a woman to blather on about her symptoms. Poor form to drone on and on about me, me, me, more me and my MS.
Jimmy's right, we do love her.
Love everything about Christina Applegate she is definitely an amazing person
Have always loved Christina and her comedy! She is a great scene stealer because of her talent and timing. I wish she could have had an easier life but am so glad to see her and wish her some easier times and many reasons to smile. She deserves it.❤
Thank you for this interview! SO FUN!! Always Love Christina!! 💕
FABULOUS wit between these two, rounded out with Marty Short! ... plus a bonus of flashback cinema! Love it ALL!!
Married... with Children is the greatest sitcom ever made. NO MA'AM! Loved her character!
Not even close to the best sitcom ever made, but I wish her the best.

This lady has been through ALOT. You are one my heroes, Miss Applegate. My prayers go out to you and your family. Bless you. ❤
I was 14 when my mother was diagnosed with MS. She lived many years after. Stay strong Christina!!
I love her, and her attitude! Maybe a first crush being a 50 year old guy now ,watching married with children back in the day. All the best to you Christina. I appreciate Jimmy and his writers
She’s so charming. I love her comedy work, the Anchormans, and my personal favourite Vacation with Ed Helms.
She’s a rock star and showing more strength and courage in trying times than most people display in a lifetime.
Christina has such a 'fun' personality, even amidst dealing with a devastating disease.
Prayers for you Christina Applegate.
She is funnier than most comedians! Great to hear someone talking so honestly and also humorously about chronic illness. Wish her all the best and will def check out the podcast!
Love Christina Applegate, God bless her ♥️🙏✝️
Gen Z REALLY needs to watch *Anchorman.* It was the most popular comedy of my youth and Christina Applegate is iconic in it! Every time I ask anyone under 25 about it, they say they’ve never seen it and it makes me sad because of how much they’re missing out
Absolutely correct.
I like lamp
Let them miss out. They have references we don't know. It was great to us because it was a time. They have their Olivia Rodorigos and whatever, so let them.
Let the kids waste their brains on tiktok
“I want to be on you”
Thanks Christina for being in our lives!!!
its my new normal... yeah, i feel her, been diagnosed 2 years ago myself at 49... that turns your life upside down...
I was dx 26 years ago, and it sure does!!
Hi. My mother was dx'd at 19 y.o. (in 1953). She'd been educated in boarding schools; the neurologist figured she'd been living with it for a number of years. She lost her eyesight, which came back. Lived well into her 80s. She would tell you not to dwell on it; that it's not the end of the world. Her pet phrase.."let's move on, shall we?" (She would not have appreciated this woman yakking away about herself ad nauseum...me, me, more me and my MS...) But the opinions (back when I was reading more about it) is that the older you are at the onset, the better...the more slowly it will progress. Make sure you watch your diet. I think nutrition and sadly cutting out the good stuff (like sugar), can make a huge difference. Cognitive therapy can help too. Look out, not in. ; )
@@julieb7785 thats what my neurologist said to me... but i must have had it for years before, i just didnt tie the knots (it was actually my orthopedist who had me go to the neurologist). but losing your sight sounds scary.. i have "only" lost most most of my muscels in my back and legs.. living on painmeds, vitamins and dropped the antidepressants (gained 20kg in 2 month).. next week is my yearly checkup if it has flurred up.. fingers crossed it hasnt..
You talk about Christina just "blabbing on" about herself and situation, yet here you are blabbing making it about yourself and telling your life story. Have some compassion or don't bother. CA can deal with her diagnosis however she wants, it doesn't have to be like your mom did it. Everyone else isn't your mom @@julieb7785.
man, ive been a fan of her since MWC and her movies but to be still in good spirits and cracking jokes non stop with the suffering she goes thru, thats insane. Thats awesome!
She's great. One of America's Sweethearts.
Thank you for having Christina as a guest 😊 😊I'm looking forward to listening to your podcast 😊
I also have MS but I'm not letting that stop me from doing the best I can everyday 😊❤
I was fortunate to get to watch her grow up on Married with Children --one of the best TV shows ever made, and several movies since then. She is a fun, sharp, talented, and excellent actress and has always seemed down-to-earth and grounded ...and a good role model for anyone.
Thank you so much, Christina, for all your dedicated work in your career, and helping support so many good causes. Even if your health prevents you from being on camera so much, I am certain that you will be very active behind the scenes whenever possible. 😄
I'm glad she's speaking about her MS journey. My son is 33 and has Progressive MS. Maybe she can help find a cure or medications that don't have serious side effects. It keeps me up many nights worrying about what's going to happen to him next.
Oh what a beautiful soul she is and I love her sense of humor it's awesome, blessings ❣️

Thank you Jimmy for treating Christina with kindness and love. ❤❤❤❤❤
I'm wishing she has the best possible life and finds much happiness.

I was diagnosed with MS the same year Christina was, maybe a month or 2 after her. I was so grateful to read her posts on Twitter. It helped me feel that I wasn't alone. I actually felt stronger reading all of her messages. Thank you for sharing and thank you for your voice, Christina. Best of luck on your journey 🧡

Newfie? I remember seeing a big moose lumber across a road while I hitchiked to Gander 1971 to catch a plane to London. I worked with some Newfies on the Alberta tar sands refineries 1977. Hard working guys!! 1
Every time she's interviewed I want the host to ask her about the lyric in PM Dawn's song: "🎵Christina Applegate, you gotta put me on 🎶"
She is a very talented person. Wishing her all the best in her struggle with MS.

So much respect for this very kind and talented individual. Good luck with you new podcast. ❤❤❤❤
It’s so refreshing to hear from a Generation X. The slickest, chicest and most formidable generation ever. ❤
Exceptional to listen to. Thanks Christina Applegate! And of course Jimmy too. Always the perfect host.
Hero! Make sure to listen to her on “Fly on the Wall” podcast. So good, so courageous. I have a friend suffering from MS. This message needs to be learned, heard.
"Taking a shower" pretty clear on what she's talking about. She's fantastic :D❤
My daughter has progressive MS. As the name implies, it's progressing extremely fast. Since her diagnosis five years ago, she has deteriorated rapidly. For the last three years she's been unable to stand, can hardly talk or see, shakes all the time, and has spasms. It took four years for Social Security disability to approve the disability claim. Now she has to wait one more year to get Medicare. In the meantime she has no insurance.
Christina I’m glad you are doing well and look great. I wish you all the best, nobody deserved this malady. But your circumstances are different from most people afflicted with this terrible disease. You can afford therapy, doctors, and treatment. Not everyone can, and that makes the situation even worse.
I think that's a poor way too look at this. I think you should flip it around. Someone with as much success and a platform that she does can still get this disease and should be out there talking about it
Sending all the love and good vibes to the Outstanding, Amazing, and Talented Christina Applegate!❤❤❤
My heart is very sad for Christina 😢. Having suffered a devastating stroke two years ago, I somehow feel the struggles she's going thru. Christina you're my inspiration 😅

I was diagnosed with MS 15 years ago, but having had precursors since I was about 12. I was RR but have moved on to progressive recently and had a grand mal last year. I never watched Married With Children so I don't know Christina but she was totally on point with the naked and afraid in the shower. I totally agree laughter is the only way to deal, and it is the best medicine because it is free.

So happy to see you Christina, sending you much love and light your way xoxo
The support of my family has helped me the most since my MS diagnosis 15 years ago. The disease has been with me for almost half my life now and humor is definitely one of the strongest tools to cope with it in everyday life. It also often helps me to say that MS has to live with me and not the other way around.
I think it's great that more and more people are coming out about their illnesses. This can also help in research.
I have great respect for Christina and wish her all the very best for her health. ❤
