- Today is our next instalment of Gregorian Chants. I have a few planned for Lent, but in the meantime, I think this might be the best known chant by the regular Christian. I have a friend who visits the monastery at Solesmes each summer, and when I think about the beautiful tradition of chant, I think of Solesmes. (Read more here: en.wikipedia.o...) If I had the resources and the courage, I would loooooove to do a retreat there. Can you imagine how it would feel to sing/pray sacred music in the peace of such an old monastery? What an experience!
For today, we're pretending we're singing in an old sacred space, as I experiment once again with a green screen background. Thank you for your kindness and patience as I practice with this! 😊
Also, if you're trying to prepare yourself for Lent, here's one of our Lenten hymn videos from last year; I love this hymn, both the text and the tune:
• Beautiful Old Lenten H...
P.s. If you think you're hearing a fluctuation in the audio, you can rest assured that your hearing is just fine. Something has gone wrong with my microphone (possibly from being dropped on the floor a million times by kittens....) I am going to try to record without it and see if it's better not to use it. x

Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiæ,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Hevæ,
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia, ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuos
misericordes oculos ad nos converte;
Et Jesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry,
Poor banished children of Eve;
To thee do we send up our sighs,
Mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
Thine eyes of mercy toward us;
And after this our exile,
Show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.
Thank you! May God bless you!
Amen 🙏

Salve Regina, sine labe originale concepta
I just had a look at the Abbey. Looks so beautiful. I would love to go there for a retreat.
ME TOO!!! My friends just loves it. I travelled on my own a lot in my twenties and early thirties, and wish I had done retreats in such places while I could have.
Beautiful voice
Dear Kathryn. I love the Lenten hymn you sang last year.

Thank you, Katheryn! These Gregorian chants are lovely. The background is quite fitting, too. Where is that?
Hi Jim! I think it's Groningen Cathedral in Germany. I have access to photos for publishing purposes. I've actually been to Groningen, but it's not a picture of my own.
Beautiful. But too high for me. Can't do it. And Gregorian chant is not supposed to have vibrato. Beautiful voice though. 🙏🏼
