New York City buys bus tickets for migrants headed north to Canada • FRANCE 24 English

  • In an act of political theatre over the migrant crisis, the Republican governors of Texas and Florida began a controversial policy of bussing migrants north to ‘sanctuary cities’ like New York last spring. Since then, New York has received some 44 thousand asylum seekers. Despite its reputation as a melting pot for immigrants, New York has never faced such an influx of migrants at such speed. The city is struggling to provide for them and is coming up with other solutions… Like sending them north to Canada.

    How do central Africans have a valid case for asylum?

    • @wonigu
      @wonigu Před rokem

      How did central Africans appear on the South border? They are not even South Americans. It seems Texas might be right : it does not make sense anymore, this 'immigration policy'. So Uncle Sam does not give them visas, so they cannot come directly to US. But then they appear on the South border - and look, they are here now.
      So what is the South border now? Just a semi-transparent migration hub?

      It's possible because it's an unofficial border. So, the technically, the law enforcement will arrest them and then find out why they came which they will say they came to claim asylum. Then begins the processing and hearing of their claims and if the judge determines their case is legit, they get to stay.

    These people won't know what hit them. Canada is already struggling with issues from high end migrants from China, who come in and inflate the property market. These migrants will also have to deal with the "attitudes" of many long-term Canadian citizens toward "migrants". I have done a lot of work there over the years and have seen some disturbing things. I also wonder what Quebec will think of this influx. The independence referenda failed partly because there were so many non-French people moving there. It will be interesting to see what you are reporting from Canada in a year or so.

      I wonder what number of migrants accepted into your country will it take for Canadians to demandi a stop to this practice.
      All it would take is a simple request from a Canadian official for it to stop and Texas would.
      Citizens of Canada demand your government tell the Texas government to stop this
      Even easier*, residents of Ottawa* demand your governor (Canadian equivalent) to, simply, contact the Texas governor and just ask him to stop this practice.
      In August 2017, your PM, Justin Trudeau, had to backtrack his open-door refugee statement he that January when 11,300 migrants entered Canada
      He doesn’t send migrants to non-Sanctuary states in the US. Only the Sanctuary cities/States who make it publicly known they have open-door policies for migrants.
      Until that happens, expect for the arrival of more bus/plane loads of migrants.
