I rarely ever comment, and don't really have a lot to add beyond what others have already said, but I'll lend my voice to those who have expressed appreciation for the "then and now" nostalgic appeal of this video. I know it must take some extra effort - not just lining up the photos, but researching and having them on hand in the first place - but it really pays off, Micah. Every time you said, "Isn't that cool...?" I found myself agreeing and saying, "Yeah."
I first visited Disney World in the summer of 1975, and even though I had spent years as a child anticipating and reading everything I could about the Magic Kingdom, I unfortunately don't recall seeing, let alone riding, the Swan Boats. I know they were there, but like their eventual removal over time - as in my memory - they no longer remain.
It's a pity these type of "slow" attractions don't really exist anymore (except, thankfully, the People Mover) because sometimes, you just want to sit back and enjoy the ambience of the park - something that has become increasingly difficult to do in this "modern" Disney age.
As an example, my favorite memory from that 1st trip in 1975 has nothing to do with any of the attractions, but rather, a simple quiet moment when, some time after the parade, with the 7 dwarfs making their way (probably backstage) through the nearly empty hub, Grumpy caught me staring, stopped... and kicked a trash can just for my benefit.
There's a lesson in there somewhere. Yes, the big attractions are nice and definitely part of the experience... but equally important are the "magic" moments - like a group of dancers in colorful turn of the (20th) century costumes surprising and delighting the crowds by dancing down Main Street USA. I miss this kind of simple beauty and elegance...
...just like the Swan Boats.

They were my grandma’s favorite ride
I remember those. First rode them in 74. D ticket ride.
My first trip was in 73 and many times since. I recall the dock and vaguely remembering the swan boats. I don’t think we ever rode them. I do recall riding the skyway many times.

We visited WDW every spring break from 1975 to the late '80's and I can't recall ever seeing these boats. I don't think we ever went on them. Was it a seasonal attraction or did it run year round? I do remember the waterways being drained once or twice while we were there. Keep up the good work Micah! Love seeing my childhood memories of (old) Florida coming back to me.
Like you I have been going to WDW since the early seventies. I don't recall these boats as well. They may have been seasonal.
Fist went to MK in 82, don't specifically remember going on the Swan Boat attraction though. Will have to look out the old photo albums. Awesome content BTW Micah.

I saw one on a website a few years ago that one was privately owned and have heard they kept one to clean the mote out. They had a different steering system using a couple valves for steering as they used a pump for thrust/steering in lieu of a traditional propeller.
Went down this rabbit hole awhile back too - I wish it were possible to bring back the swans.

Great video.... never went on boat.... hung out many of times on the dock just to relax.... it was tucked away, so most of the time, it was quite there.... my dad would always say this used to be the boat loading dock.... Great history... I think it would be cool if they did character boats around the castle like Animal Kingdom.... I remember those! Rode them too. They should have kept those, every princess needs to ride a swan boat. Animal Kingdom was supposed to have some boats that went around the waterway, even to a mythical dragon area, but they never materialized.
Landscape-wise it seems Disney World was way more beautiful back then

Strange that these did not work out @ MK and was remove, then 20+ years later at Animal Kingdom they built basically the same ride concept with different boats, but that install failed too.
Maybe it just does catch on with guests?

I would imagine those swan boats were on a track like the ferry boat huh?? Wonder if u can c the tracks thru the water now or if they removed them?
