      @rolandthethompsongunner64 Před 2 lety +2

Possibly. But are you also willing to accept a rise in suicides, accidental shootings, stolen weapons ending up in criminals hands ?
I totally understand your point of view. But every action has consequences. More guns will lead to even more shootings and gun deaths. It’s a math equation. One plus one doesn’t equal 0. You add guns there will be more gun deaths.

@@rolandthethompsongunner64 suicides are a mental health issue that gun free countries struggle with. Japan is one example. Accidental shootings are an educational issue. Stealing and using stolen guns is a criminal issue.
What is your solution to defend yourself?
I'll take care of myself and my own and that includes guns.

@@rustylugnut755 I don’t think any other country on earth has the rate of suicides particularly gun than the US. And that’s my point.
      But I’m going to check.
And the focus needs to be on mass shootings. Of which there’s no other country on earth that has them at the number an frequency we do. If I’m wrong please show me a source that says otherwise.
And it’s simple math. More guns than citizens is obviously going to lead to various gun deaths. Whether suicides, accidental shootings, mass shootings. I could be wrong? But it’s simple math. If we all walked around with swords, my bet is we would see more hacking and stabbing deaths. But we don’t do we ? We prefer to settle our deference’s with mainly hand guns.
Now my mind remains open. But facts are facts and math is a fact.

    • @rolandthethompsongunner64
      @rolandthethompsongunner64 Před 2 lety +1

@@rustylugnut755 Your question “ what should we do to defend ourselves?”
It’s a valid question. And I’m not saying we should ban all guns. But there wouldn’t be mass shootings and high rates of gun crimes without guns would there ? Look at countries that do have stricter gun laws. It’s like magic. Fewer gun deaths all around.
You can’t add a number to another number and arrive at a negative.
Now would you be apposed to anyone wanting to own any gun having to receive training and carry insurance on their guns ? If so why ?

I'm thinking that it may be a legal matter for the news business and/or transit system. Since there are no charges filed yet they probably can't publicly show them maybe? They also may not know the ages of the people doing criminal acts. They may be minors, and lawfully may not be able to show their faces. I agree with you though that the public should know to be safe - especially if they haven't been caught yet. I'm not exactly sure ... I don't think it's about their skin color, despite any racism that we'll likely find in the comments.

I have lived in Los Angeles all 48 years of my life. My car died about five years ago and I have been 100% dependent on MTA Los Angeles public transit bus and light rail lines ever since. I even used my car for years to park at rail station parking lots to ride the Red/Blue Lines such as North Hollywood, Universal City and Culver City (Expo Line). There are many reasons why this chaos is going one...the MAIN reason is because MTA executive board members, Mayor Garcetti, and County Supervisors absolutely DESPISE LAW ENFORCEMENT. Go online and watch and listen to the various board meetings. Our elected officials have incrementally disabled armed law enforcement's ability to operate and be present throughout the system and in many different ways.

In the 1990s (I can't remember the year), my mom caught the L.A. subway (I can't remember from where), got off at Slauson Ave., walked down the stairs towards Slauson Avenue, then waited for the RTD bus on Slauson Avenue, sitting on the bus bench, for the RTD bus to take her home to Huntington Park, California, about 2 miles away. This was in the evening, about 8 pm. 5 blacks with black leather jackets, 1 was a woman, took my mom's purse, punched her in the face and pushed her onto the cement sidewalk. My mom's fall onto the cement sidewalk broke my mom's left wrist. The bone was sticking out at the wrist, but did not break through her skin. Mexicans driving by honked their cars horn at the blacks who ran away. Mom laid on the sidewalk for sometime (I don't remember how long) until the LAPD came and took my mom to White Memorial Hospital. They dropped her off.
The hospital was busy. The workers at the hospital just wrapped my mom's left wrist and left arm with newspaper, having a wooden stick inside the newspaper to keep her wrist and left arm straight, and told my mom to come back to the hospital 5 days later. The LAPD called me at work (I worked at JPL in Pasadena, California) to say my mom was at White Memorial Hospital and for me to pick her up there and take her home. The next day, with my mom, I drove to where the incident had happened. There was still blood, dried blood, my mom's blood, on the cement sidewalk, by the bus bench, where the crime had occurred. Five days later, my mom's left wrist was operated on. Her left hand, left wrist, and left arm were then put into a plaster cast. Two months later, more or less, the plaster cast was removed. My mom's wrist bone still stuck out slightly, but she was able to slightly move her left hand. To me, the operation was not done correctly. My mom wasn't able to use her left arm anymore after that. She needed her right hand to help the left hand to pick up things, or hold on to things.
The LAPD and the L.A. Sheriff Department each said they were not responsible to handle the case because it happened on the border of L.A. City. They each called me, asked me what had happened, and each decided it wasn't their responsibility to handle the case. Each wanted the other police department (LAPD or L.A. Sheriff) to handle the case. I don't think anyone handled the crime. But it didn't seem to matter to us, the crime was committed and it was over.
This is Los Angeles. Crime has always been like this in the inner city. I was raised in downtown Los Angeles with my parents. The LAPD is overwhelmed with crime. They solve about 10% of the crime that is committed in Los Angeles. Their response time takes about 30 minutes or so. I know this because other things have happened to us as a family, as fights in the neighborhood, shootings in the neighborhood, breaking into our apartment, thievery, and the LAPD, more or less, take about 30 minutes to come to our home or apartment.
My mom passed away in June 2016, and my family and I don't live in Los Angeles, or California anymore.

I was watching dash cam videos just yesterday, and I saw one in LA where a person with a dash cam witnessed a pickup truck floor the gas ramming a dozen cars. The cammer calls the police and is immediately forwarded to an answering machine instead of a dispatcher. I'm a firm believer that most people won't seek out an opportunity to do something wrong but can and will act if an opportunity presents itself. The whole damn city is an opportunity if police never actually show up when people need them.

      Matthew 13
      The Parable of the Weeds
24 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
27 “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’
28 “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.
“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”
The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast
31 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”
33 He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds[b] of flour until it worked all through the dough.”
34 Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. 35 So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:
“I will open my mouth in parables,
I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.”[c]
The Parable of the Weeds Explained
36 Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
37 He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.
The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
      The Parable of the Net
47 “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
51 “Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked.
      “Yes,” they replied.

I've seen people smoking cigarettes on the trains, people panhandling, people selling things, people blasting music, people talking way too loud. People don't bother actually paying to ride the trains, I've watched people walk right through the gates without paying. The so called "emergency gates" that are supposed to trigger an alarm don't work as I've seen at every green line station people opening those gates going in and out and never once heard an alarm. I've seen people do this in front of Metro personnel and they never say or do anything about it. Trash everywhere on the busses and trains, bus operators and train operators not wearing masks. Mental illness and drug addiction are mostly the problem (homeless and politicians alike- e.g. Mike Bonin). Security is one solution. Not letting people use the subway as a dorm is one solution solution also, there are many solutions because THE problem is really many problems combined.

Pre pandemic: I used to ride the Metro to go to work in Downtown, hang with friends after work, happy hour, concerts, etc. Besides riding the Blue line, which was known to be sketchier, I felt safe and confident and never had issues on either trains. I have not riden since the pandemic and I have no intention to do so -not until this is under control. It's concerning and I feel for those that have no car and rely on public transportation. A lot of students use public transportation too... I was once one of those kids.
If the city is pushing for public transportation, they need to control this. It's very dangerous and unsafe.

In August 2021 my car died, and I had to choose between taking the train to work near Downtown LA or going into more debt buying a used car. I was already $15k in debt, but I bought a car that put me $15k more in debt, because I'm not riding those trains regularly again. I did it for 3 years from 2008-2011, and it was horrible, but not like it is now. The LA MTA downplays the violence on their trains, but it is real. I will eat less food and spend the money on a car to avoid riding those trains.

Move closer? Who has the time and Money to devote to moving closer to work? Think about that, its not just about conviennce think about the cost of living maybe housing is cheaper or safer if not both where they are. Moving closer to LA is expensive af. Maybe they already own a home etc. Ride share is bs too uber lyft etc has been robbing people blind with all the fare hikes, my sister who works downtown takes Uber and spends close to 500$ a week just to go and from downtown. If she bought a car she would be saving money not wasting about 10,000$ a year on rideshare. Also a scooter/bike isn't always practical.
