I found an interesting article while researching this video from the University of Cincinnati. A group of faculty and students were given a safety tour of the facility in 2019. The article shares everything that's done to keep the workers safe in a potentially very dangerous industry. It's worth a read when you have time:

This video was a lot of fun to film and I really hope you enjoy it.
I will post the link to it's Kentucky counterpart as soon as it's published.
Let me know what you think and please add any additional info in the comments.
Until our next trip, I hope you have a great day!

Nice work again Christian. Great drone work and editing as usual. Always like the fast speed action, can’t imagine how slow it must look in real time. I look forward to your videos because I always learn something. Thanks for another informative and entertaining video. Amazing what it takes to keep the lights on!

Always glad to hear you enjoyed the video, Terry.
This was an interesting and fun one to record.
I did have to remind myself to not move the drone so the sped up shots wouldn't look too shaky.
It was a lot of hit record and wait for a few minutes.

i once hauled coal from the Gibson, IN mine to the Princeton, IN mine. i drove a daycab with a 39 foot frameless end-dump trailer. i will say the Beelman drivers were nice to the company i drove for at first but then they got kind of irritated we were there.

They're mining coal as far down as 565 feet below ground level according to the latest data I could find.
It looks like the seam is between 450 ft and 650 ft below the surface.

I'm not sure but I think it's water to spray onto the coal when it's hotter and drier outside to prevent fires.
      Just a guess though.

That sulfer dioxide gas from burning high-sulfer coal turns into sulfuric if released into the atmosphere. It precipitates out as acid rain. Those sulfer scrubbers are an absolute necessity on hi-sulfer coal-fired power plants.

I ❤ coal. I live in Norfolk VA. Norfolk and Western used to roll coal train's around the clock . now not as much ships would be lined up in Anchorage at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay 15 to 20 now it's not as much. Miss those days it would put me to sleep at night clackady clack over the diamonds .
