Emppu is clearly using a guitar effect called Octaver, which produces and adds a simultanious note, one octave below the note your playing with your guitar. With a distortion it sounds exactly like that in the middle section of the song. I have an octaver and gives beastly sounds!
This album is really good, every song is absolutely amazing. On the EFMB tour the did not perform this song live, only a few times, and in Tampere they left out The Poet And The Pendulum, and did this song instead. Elan live at Wembley, a song Floor really took to an other dimensions live, one of my favorite song from the album.

That instrumental bridge is hands down one of my favorite sections of music ever written. Idk it just, it really speaks to me. And I really love how Marco is so much more up front in the sound when they play live-he usually sits a little further underneath the lead vocals in the studio versions which is a shame. And yes. This whole album is killer. I listened to it for like a year straight when it came out, with very little else thrown into the mix.
Very solid album indeed. I have a couple of suggestions: Floor and Marco singing Ave Maria. Nightwish - Sacrament of Wilderness from Oceanborn album (dont forget Gethsemane from the same album). Also i would like to recommend you to check out some spanish old school heavy metal: Rata Blanca (White Rat) - La Leyenda del Hada y el Mago (The Legend of the Fairy and the Wizard). Well most songs on Endless Forms Most Beautiful are uplifting and different from the last three albums. Nightwish lives and breathes Toumas afterall... so when he compose lighter music like this it means he's happier. We can also see it on the band itself, since all of them seem way happier then the final tours of the Tarja Era and during the Anette era. Even if Floor can't fully replace Tarja on the earlier album tracks, I still think that the band are better with Floor and Troy as fulltime members for the overall health of the band.
The musicianship of the band on this track is remarkable, but add in Floor and Marco in a duet and you have a great fun song that sounds absolutely wonderful. Hey I remember Iron Butterfly IN A GADDA DA VIDA all 17 mins of it on the FM dial. That played and you knew it was a bathroom break for the D.J. (LOL). This is really a great album and frankly Elan is the weakest song on it so that should tell you right there how good it is. (Hope you enjoyed the Marco videos!!)
Hello Ryan. I was getting yelled at by a woman at work and missed this reaction. Now that I've seen it, I'm all smiles. This was the first song, off the album, I learned all the lyrics to. Lol... Was not easy.

It's the music that counts, and he was and is a great singer and musicians. This song is one of Tuomas most amazing piece of music that shows how great of a songwriter he really is.
I love every song I've heard from this album. Every. Single. One! What are you going to do for Elan? Live or official music video? I anxiously await! A tad heavier live, but the official music video has Floor all dolled up and looking absolutely stunning, but again, I don't care for the studio mix. They have Floor and Marco's vocals lower than I prefer. After buying the studio MP3s, I was disappointed and made my own MP3s from the Tampere 2015 show. lol
Agree with you on Elan, other that Floor looking like a stunning 40's cabaret headliner, even Troy sounded weak on the studio mix. Floor is still stunning LIVE and sounds better anyway!!
Great reaction as always. Won't suggest anything new to you Ryan since I've already suggested quite a few new songs/bands & others seem to be doing such a great job in suggesting NW songs. Have not been an active YT user for long, which is why I'm just starting to compile playlists of the bands that I like. Presently I have a public NW playlist with 149 items of various types and some other public playlists also in case someone wants to check them out.
I would love to get a gander at any list that you have in this genre, you have never disappointed yet and seem to have a knack for digging up real gems.

Yeah, Ryan, if you will react to it, Sharbat Gula is the name of “the Afghan girl” from Natural Geographic journal most famous cover ever.. I think you probably seen her already. The picture was taken in refugee camp in 1985... you can do some research about her..

You say that they are lucky to have found each other, I beg to disagree. Annette had been causing problems for a while before she left. I think Tuomos waited until Floor was free of contracts before booting out Annette. Floor had been garnering attention around the metal world for a couple of years by then, and I think Tuomos just bided his time.

When you do Elan, Wembley seems to be the most popular performance of it, but I think Floor sounds better in Tampere :)
