    Wow that’s exactly how I felt when I crossed the same bridge from North Korea back into China. Sure the Internet situation in China is frustrating, but you can only truly realize that feeling of freedom after being escorted and monitored constantly for a few days.

    Great enjoyable video of the travel between Pyongyang and Beijing!. Good to hear that North Korean customs isn’t too bothered about what’s in our phones perhaps unlike Iranian customs. Otherwise eye opening video, something that I will always cherish..

    Very interesting video. Can I assume that the train was Chinese and that was a Chinese restaurant car? The food was much better than I would have expected; I had heard previously that on this route (on the N. Korean train?) they serve unidentified meat that they won't tell you what it is but is suspected of being dog.

    One question: you mention the well-known fact that you had to be escorted by your guides everywhere you went in NK but how did it play out with the train? No more guides in the train? Did they escort you all the way to the platform to make sure that you actually boarded the train?

    • @RUNWAY05
      @RUNWAY05  Před 3 lety +23

      Yes they did escort us to the train. Made sure we all boarded. It wasn't very obvious but I'm sure they had their eyes on us. And no guides in the train. only passengers. Maybe they have people to monitor us in the trains too but our guides didn't join us. The train only stopped at the border station if I remember correctly. Immigration/customs checks were done just before the border.

    Several places in Dandong like 9:29 you can see wall-mounted air conditioners. I saw a lot of those in Russia and Ukraine in 2012, like warts all over the classic socialist architecture. There are even a few satellite dishes. Somehow I don't think those are very common in DPRK.

    Well photographed but suspect a watered down version. Was the train Chinese or NK. Compared with other videos , no mention of any checks on the train by NK officials, no harrassment at all. Bit like travelling between two countries in the free world and we know that's not true.
    Comment by former NK traveller.

    • @RUNWAY05
      @RUNWAY05  Před 3 lety +18

      I do not know when you travelled there but there was absolutely no harassment from NK officers. They did have customs officers checking all our belongings. I arrived in NK via air. so they had luggage scanners at the airport and it was quick. But when you travel by train, there are no scanners so they physically check it. I have gone through similar checks in USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand and many more countries. And the officer was smiling and joking throughout the check. Of course if one of us had anything illegal, it would be different. But as long as you are clean, nothing to worry about. And remember, this was my experience. I'm sure different people have different experiences.
