    Glad you reviewed these. I bought an unmatched pair off ebay 10 years ago. Put a new surround on the woofers and rebuilt the crossovers and pots using the classic speaker pages instructions. One tweeter was bad so replaced them with a new hivi tweeter with an inductor as recommended by many on line and also by the vintage AR store. The results were fantastic. Some of the lowest distortion and clearest speakers I have heard with very deep bass. These need a lot of power. A Vidar 2 works well. Don’t underestimate these. Better than new Lintons IMHO.

      Glad your improvements worked out well for you and you have enough power for them- thanks for sharing!!

    Thank you for the vid, another well done one. I remember those speakers from the early 70s. You know, friends dads who were “into stereo” in that suburban way :-)
    There are a pair for sale locally right now . #48286. They are asking 455can.
    Cheers

      Thanks so much for the comment and if they were a bit cheaper, I think they would be worth looking into more...

      Yeah, pretty well all vintage stuff around here is, I think, a bit over priced.

    Another nice review! Lovely that the owner kept them in what appears to be such great shape with the original boxes. I wonder if they placed the label that way because they thought most people back then would put them in a bookshelf that way? At my friend's house in the 70's, his dad actually put their AR's in the bookshelf.

      Thanks for the comment, Chris. I am guessing that is the way they listened to them or did not know you could rotate the label. Your friend must have had a pretty robust bookshelf!

    The issue is the dampening material under the tweeter dome decays and kills the tweeters ability to generate high frequencies. I ended up breaking the rules and using a new tweeter, so sad

      @vintageaudioreview  Před měsícem +1

      One would think there is a repair service for that, but sometimes a replacement tweeter will end up sounding better w/out tweaking the crossover.

    If one were to buy these do they need to be re-sealed on the surrounds?

    • @vintageaudioreview
      @vintageaudioreview  Před měsícem

      I guess it would depend on the surrounds- if they were still intact they should not need to be replaced....

      @@vintageaudioreview I meant re-sealed. Aren't the surrounds a type of cloth that just needs some type of sticky glue like treatment?

      @@vintageaudioreview Okay. I didn't know for sure if the surrounds are like those on the AR4x speakers.
