Every so often, I like to watch this video. It's like a time machine for me. You drove around my old stomping grounds, my old schools. Awesome video.
Did you ever go to Rolling Acres Mall? I watch videos of that mall a lot. It was in the outskirts of Akron.
At :17 and :26 you can see the back end of my yellow trans am in the parking lot and at :27 that's me walking in front of the station. How cool.
that is actually very cool
That's cool to see
Ellet...class of 1970. I left Akron 45 years ago and have never looked back.
Thanks for posting this. I'm happy someone (you) videoed parts of the city that are now gone, like Spicer Town. I grew up in Ellet and went to AU. Don't know what you've got till it's gone. I especially liked the 88 cent gas price, which we probably complained about at the time. Great memories, great stuff. Thanks.
Thanks for the thanks. Who knew we would have a vehicle like CZcams to share it with the world? It was done just for my personal memories. I had been away from Akron about 15 years in '87.
Fantastic! Love going "home" again to Akron. Wonderful video, so nostalgic. Love the background radio music, all the people, everything. Just great. :-)
Seriously. It's 2am and I can't turn this off. PRICELESS. I could cry.
I was 10. My dads a locksmith in Akron. These were some of my favorite times with him. Riding around when I got to see him in the summers. Beautiful memories of my time with him.
I was 7. I have so many locksmiths in the family. Started with A1 Key in Kenmore.
YOU JUST DROVE THRU MY WHOLE CHILDHOOD LIFE .. EVERY STREET AND EVERY SCHOOL
Where did you do your time?
This era is gone forever. Gone our the days when people drove big cars, with real mechanical parts, not stealership controlled.
Lebron was 2 years old somewhere in that city when this was filmed.
That drive through the U of A was a blast from the past. I was a student there at the time.
Thank you.
My grandma and grandpa lived on Curtis Street in a giant house very similar to the bigger ones in the beginning of the video.
Those houses were actually 3 floors. The attic space was so large you could finish it off and have an entire separate apartment up there.
My uncle John lived on the 3rd floor of grandma and grandpas house.
Thanks for jogging such a pleasant memory for me.
I loved that big giant house and I loved my grandparents and my Uncle John.
So many years ago.
At 1:30, those are the Loughneys, my friends parents. That house is on Delmar, just off Glenwood.
Born in Akron in 1972. Went to Bettis, Hatton, Hyre, Ellet, and Graduated from Garfield in 1990. Three bustling shopping malls. Portage lakes fishing. Wingfoot lake. Summer fireworks downtown. Children's Palace. Gold Circle. Brown Derby at Chapel Hill. O'Neils downtown. Civic Theater Easter talent show. No internet. No cell phones. You had to connect with ppl. It was a better time. 80s we will never get back but memories
I remember all of that thanks for the flashback
It’s funny because this is exactly what Akron looks like today too. Same cars also 😂
I remembered that R.R. crossing by the Pepsi Plant, very Kool video, once upon a time😮❤
This was great! Thank you so much for sharing.
Wow! Class of 87 from Central-Hower!
My mom was 88,dad and uncle 86, auntie 89 or 90
Neat video, thanks for sharing it. I lived on the west side of Akron as a kid and moved away the year before this video, so I don’t recognize much but it has the feel of my childhood. Amazing how dated it seems.
Thank you for sharing this!
Those days was so much fun
I grew up on Kipling st right across the bridge from Goodrich I started kindergarten at Glover elementary in 87
R.I.P. Joe Steen
Immediately when the video started I knew right where we were, but the minor differences are very obvious. Blast from the past.
I was a year old when this happened.
What is really crazy about this video is how much of Akron is still the same
Back when rolling acres mall was was still open. It will take decades for Akron to erase that rotting mall from its image.
That was I-76 you took to Brimfield, not I-80.
I remember Bob's Marathon there at SR43 and I-76. They worked (and his sons still do) on my car. The old Holiday Inn, where Stan Piatt used to host WNIR parties, has been torn down.
And WNIR had not yet moved its transmitter tower next to I-76.
WNIR's transmitter tower was never next to I-76. That was WAOH's tower
Crestwood, you are wrong.
WAOH parent company owns WNIR and transmits from the same antenna.

Somewhere in this video my 17 year old teenage dad was roaming the streets lol
My old Neighborhood when I was 12 god how it's changed

Anyone remember the building on Exchange at 10:50? I remember it but foegot what it was.
That was the recreation Center at Mason Park. Corner of Beaver Street and E. Exchange.
That is crazy...
Wow central hower is now stem high school and I go there
Please let me know what the soundtrack is? It's electrifying! It sounds like 'Sting'.

Pat Metheny. Last train home.
i want to see the arena in akron that was torn down.
Awesome, sure wish you would have explained things
Does anyone know if the original Portage Path Elementary school is still around?
Jeffery Skoblar What a shame. It was such a beautiful building. I wonder if my old house is still around.
It is not www.ohio.com/akron/news/portage-path-alumni-recall-days-of-indians-and-braces
I stopped watching. Does he kill her at the end?

Those boys walking home from school together really summed up the video for me 😢
This isn't 1987.
Is the Toys R Us still there?
That was just a billboard I think is what your referring to in the beginning . No toys r us was around there at the time .
Anyone else looking to see if they see lebron ?
Or cyraxx
Nothing going on in Akron Ohio. Then or now.
Cyraxx now run's Akron from his grandmothers attic
@@kenkellalea329 who? That sums it up.

Akron never changes, it was ugly then, and it's ugly now :)
Oh it's much uglier now
