- Here is my complete tutorial on "how to" learn, practice, and play Robert Schumann's Träumerei (Dreaming) from Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood) Op.15 No.7
In this In-depth lesson, you'll find an explanation of playing each phrase with separate & both hands, timing, implementing the pedals, different options of interpretation, and more.
Schumann's Träumerei is undoubtedly a challenging piece to learn, play, teach, and perform.
I hope this video will help you play and enjoy this music as much as I do.
Good luck!
Kinderszenen, (Scenes from Childhood) Op. 15 is a set of thirteen pieces of music for piano, written during the spring of 1838. The same year in March, Schumann wrote to Clara, "I have been waiting for your letter and have in the meantime filled several books with pieces... You once said that I often seemed like a child, and I suddenly got inspired and knocked off around 30 quaint little pieces... I selected several and titled them Kinderszenen. You will enjoy them, though you will need to forget that you are a virtuoso when you play them."
The seventh piece, "Träumerei," is one of the most popular in this set. It is a depiction of childhood innocence, vulnerability, and gentleness. The main theme is sweetly innocent and sentimental, perhaps representing the adult Schumann's fond view of aspects of his own childhood.
The whole piece lasts under three minutes but is the longest in the Kinderszenen set.
I heard this piece for the first time from a CD of Vladimir Horowitz when I was a child.
The recordings from his Hamburg and Moscow concerts are very well known, and you can find them on CZcams.

Indeed
There is no better or better pianist on CZcams than you, thank you!
Thank you for including the background knowledge of the piece in the description. 🌷
I have been playing this charming piece since my childhood. It's funny that I have been playing it at very different speeds and columns depending on my mood, while thinking I was playing wrongly but now, after watching your video, I think that I was right. It can be played very different depending on your moments!
A very simple piece of music, but with plenty of possibilities.
This is just great, instead of playing random pieces I will now only play the pieces that you have a tutorial on because from these videos I get +50% accuracy instantly. Your approach to learning the pieces is the best. Thank you so much. Cheers from Germany
Glad I could help!

Simply beautiful. So delicate, so expressive. Great tutorial as well. One day I’ll be able to fully enjoy your tutorials. With my current skill level I’m happy if I can play a piece as correctly as possible notes wise. I can’t control dynamics as of now.
Many thanks!
Good luck with practicing!
Just curious how are you doing now?
@@owenevilmakings5433 a bit better but not yet ready for träumerei. I'm learning piano by myself so I'm sort of on and off. Although I'm aware of the role of dynamics, I'm still struggling to play the correct notes. Thanks for asking!
@@fabianom7 that’s nice you are still playing. I’ve played since I was 7(I’m 15) and from what all I’ve learned you definitely make sure you are having fun first when you start. Having fun makes the process go not just alot faster and smoother, but more consistent. Nice to hear anything piano from another perspective :)
Thank you for the tutorial. Learning it now! 😊❤️🙏
Happy to help :)
Have fun!

I learn so much from your videos. I am learning this piece now. Could you do a tutorial for the Bach-Busoni Nun Komm der Heiden Heiland? I love that piece but have been struggling with the voicing. Thanks again for all you do for us!
Can't wait to learn this piece! I am having trouble downloading the sheet music, however, will try again later in the day to see if it'll make any difference :)
Hey there! If you keep having trouble with downloading the sheet music, please send me an email; antuneme@gmail.com

Could you cover Ravel's Pavane for a Dead Princess too? Thanks
Most definitely! I have been planning to make a video on it for a long time. Hopefully, in a couple of months!
@@Antune thank you! Looking forward to it.
Yeah, that's an excellent recommendation. Would be greatly appreciated if you could do a tutorial on this Ravel Classic. Thanks for all the great lessons, Master. God bless.
Tq Sir.
Hi I'd love to see a Moonlight sonata 1st mvt tutorial. Even if the piece isnt that diffucult Im really curious to listen to some of your advices about the interpratation, pedaling and more...just like the op. 28 n. 4 tutorial
I am planning to make videos about some of the Beethoven sonatas. However, I'd prefer to explain and play all the movements in general. On the other hand, I haven't played the Moonlight sonata myself but worked on it with some students. So, most definitely, at some point, there will be videos about each movement of it. I will take it in my repertoire hopefully next year!
@@Antune i second this
Will be looking forward to it if it ever comes out
was learning this piece and wondered wish there's a tutorial from Antune. Wowww and here it is! just about to make a request for this one!
I hope it helps. Good luck with practicing!
Hi. Thank you for this tutorial. I really enjoy the tips you give. In 18:20, you said we can play the chord as an arpeggio if we struggle with reach. I didn't really catch how to do that. Was wonderting if you could explain or show it.
Hey there, thanks for the comment! I colored the chord you mentioned blue and red in the video. First, I divide the blue notes equally between hands; 3 tones for left 3 for right. Then, as the left hand becomes free as soon as the right hand comes in, I take the last red note with the left hand as well, just like how I play it at 18:18.
I hope it makes sense. Good luck!
Yes, I watched the video again after reading your comment and I understand what you mean. Tq so much for replying and putting in so much effort into yr tutorials. They are really helpful. Take care n keep on playing!
At the third last bar, if both hands cannot reach all the chords, do you suggest me to roll both or give up some notes?
Please do not give up any notes. Here I explain how to do it; - czcams.com/video/9NjcfdnUVKo/video.html

❤🎹🍀🧿
okay realized my hand might be too small for the F major chord lol
you can arpeggiate kinda
Comment faire pour obtenir la partition s'il vous plaît ?
Please check my website. You can find the scores there!
I'm a 39 year old dude and I can't play that 22nd measure all at once, I have to roll that chord and yet you reach so easily! Lmao! Have you ever been told you have giant hands??
Shigeru Kawai!!! which type?
SK7 :)
@@Antune I‘ve a SK3…great Pianos!
Lucky you! I think SK3 is the best model of Shigeru Kawai, despite being a smaller one.
enjoy it! best instrument for play classic piano peaces better than steinway for me
Bros level 8000 on gta 5 nice one
Lol thanks! 😅
A fun fact. This is one of the most popular tune in India because it has been used for the advertisements of Raymond Suitings (a very prestigious fabric brand in India) for decades. It's played in different styles and on many instruments. I too as an Indian have loved it so much. Just imagine a tune composed by a European composer a century ago, has been the favourite of Indians for generations and decades. czcams.com/video/I6-p07anAro/video.html Here's a little glimpse of those ads, if anyone would like to see!
