I almost feel like penga is only playing through these to get info for his own troll level.
He should make a troll version of "Please Just Do Better," using the anti-softlock mechanic from "Rhymes with fun" for half the platforms. And then he needs to make Carl play it.

nope. smm2 only requires a course to be beatable from the checkpoint when the on/off state is "on". getting the checkpoint when the state is "off" is absolutely allowed to kill you.
Yeah, which makes that checkpoint unnecessary to beat the level.
Sooo... basically as the uploader, if you were to beat it from checkpoint the state would be so you can just land on the switch blocks and finish the level. But if you were to beat it from start to finish you wouldn't get the checkpoint and could just go past it. I guess that would also explain why the ending was different when he was going for world record, because the on/off state was different.
@@icycloud6823 You're wrong about that last part, because there's a state check right after the checkpoint. If the state is ON, you're required to manually turn it OFF to progress from there. If you clear check or speedrun while skipping the checkpoint, you can just run right through, but when you respawn you have to hit that switch block.

Someone should start making multiplayer troll levels where both the level can troll you, but also has tech in it that allows players to troll each other too.
I like how these well made troll levels are like pseudo puzzle levels

Yeah there was this one troll level video DGR uploaded a few days ago and it was in super bros 3. He was at the finish but he didn't know he had to go another way and he literally went through the goal and he was soooo surprised and confused

You could shave time by damage boosting into the flagpole on the first cycle
Could you though? You had to hit the POW, and it was below you. Since you're in SMB1, that forces you to use the Dry Bones shell ground pound feature, which places you in the dead state for a set amount of time. I don't think there's any other way to get down there.

just once for one of these levels id like to see how the dev path that makes it beatable without checkpoints works. troll levels really are something else.
I spotted another comment saying that on this one, you can actually just skip that checkpoint entirely (as you can see him do in the speedrun). So for the full level clear check you don't even go down there, and then for the clear check from that checkpoint, the on/off state is ON (as it is when you respawn there) instead of off (as it'll always be when you get there beforehand) so it just works normally.

The Dry Bones shell will make you bounce off the saw instead of being able to damage boost through it.
If you press up you wake up faster and I think you could hit the end

That only works when grounded, if you ground pound then you can't wake up early.

I thought he had to ground pound cancel at the same time he hit the pow, similar to when you ground pound and enter a door at the same time.

you almost got the big brain room, but were too small brained in the end to execute it. to hit the shell down the donut, jump on the left side of the shell, not the right.

That's what I was thinking.
When you are in the bones-shell I think you can't because the first step is a mini-jump, so you can't go through that 1-block space because of the mini-jump
If you press up you wake up faster in the dry bones shell. This might hit the end

Nope. I tested it, you can only wake up early if you die on the ground. When you ground-pound, you HAVE to wait out the long timer.
