      I have high hopes for future upgradability of this system. Dell seems to be showing commitment to their Dell Graphics Form Factor in their Precision line of products, which use Radeon Pro and Quadro cards. And hopefully they show commitment to future upgrades to the A51m later this year with an upgrade to the new Super cards, and maybe even with the option of having Vega II cards, and maybe even Intel's GPUs if they ever come out.
      Sadly, CPU upgrades probably won't follow into 10th gen Core chips, as rumors are already stating that 10th gen will have a new socket. Not that 10th gen will be anything new, as it doesn't support any newer technologies like PCIe 4.0, unlike Zen 2, which does. Personally, I think AMD would've been a better option, as they're committed to keeping the same socket, and Intel has been fairly stagnant and is now falling behind in adoption of new tech. Not that it really matters, the targeted demographic of this product could probably survive on higher end 9th gen for years while having upgradable GPUs, since this is for gaming anyways, unless games start getting heavily CPU intensive. Wouldn't be surprised if this could last a handful of CPU generations before it starts needing a replacement.

      Hey, did you find your answer? I just gave mine a thorough clean and dust and it was a tiny bit more complex than this teardown. However you can't get all of the dust without fully removing the heat pipe assembly, which requires a re-paste on the CPU and GPU. The fins trap dust on the inside surface of the cooling fins inside the fan assemblies.

    • @stephenhastewell
      @stephenhastewell Před 2 lety

      It won't be thorough but a can of compressed air through the rear and side vents will blow out some of the dust. The fans are open at the bottom but sealed where the cooling fins are, which is where the dust accumulates. Perhaps combine a vacuum cleaner over the fan and compressed air through the rear vents, blowing the dust into the vacuum.

      Yes you can upgrade pretty much everything

      @Wesley Moore You can't upgrade that, yeah I thought you good. It'll still work with anything that works with the motherboard, though.

    Why everyone is so hyped about it. Clevo is doing it since years. I believe you can even get a sli 2080 coupled with i9 9900k .

    no matter if a slim gaming or a DTR, all now have an average of 50db. Unbelievable...
    a few years ago 40db it was loud and unbearable. Now? "50db is ok"
    The technological process is more advanced but laptops are getting louder and louder. This type of housing is only suitable for the mobile version of the i7 and the card like RTX2070 to avoid thermal throtling. That is the truth. Most laptops on the market work under a load on 70% of their capabilities mayby less...

      I can't disagree with you that 50db is loud. It's loud to me too. I personally do not game on my laptops so I have a lower tolerance for noise than most gamers these days. However, I would offer as far as laptops with this kind of horsepower go, this machine is actually quieter. And I can also tell you this machine is better than most with respect to thermal saturation issues. Dell designed this thing really well.

      Thing is when you're playing games you almost always have a headset on and thefore not hear fan noise.
      Also I've seen many feedback from people having rtx 2080 with i9 processor on a51m and have no thermal throttle. Check r/Alienware

    Ah yes a portable Desktop Computer how cool is that!
    Bud come on MX4 is NOT the paste you would want to use on a Notebook like this.
    Get some Gelid GC Extreme or Kryonaut on there.
    I have had MX4 and GC Extreme on my HP Laptop and GC Extreme is the clear winner.
