Wow.... Vivan los Alfajores! 🇦🇷
I live in Ecuador now. I made these and my Ecuadorian friends loved them!
Omg, as soon as I saw the notification I clicked so fast 😅
In Argentina, we called this "alfajores de maicena" but maicena or maizena is the brand of corn starch. Generally, they are made with only corn starch and a LOT of dulce de leche 😍
i've made these without the coconut but i like the addition of coconut. my friend who is married to an argentinian man told me they loved them. going to make them and give them to my neighbor who is from south america. happy thanksgiving john and many happy returns of the day.
My boyfriend is from Uruguay and thanks to him I discovered alfajores! I absolutely love them
So interesting to see all the different renditions of Alfajores. My Peruvian mom rolls hers in powdered sugar. Every Christmas she has cookies spread all over her island, filing and rolling them in a long assembly line. Such amazing childhood memories, we would eat them at the pace that she made them. To me, alfajores equals Christmas.
John I totally understand you about the cornstarch feeling 🤣
IKR i get goosebumps from touching cornstarch UGH 😖 but i love baking with it anyway 😩
I feel the same!! My daughters boyfriend seen me using it the otherday then I put it at the back of the pantry. He went and grabbed it and at 2 scoops of it straight from the container!! 😳😲😬 🤦🤷 I was a bit shocked !! Lol
I used to live in Argentina 🇦🇷, and it’s been 20 years since I’ve had an Alfajor de maicena. I made your recipe and it was PERFECT. Soooo good!! Thanks John!!
I'm a simple argentinian
I see an argentina reference on a video's title, I click
I’m Peruvian and thank you so much for making these! I was hoping one day you would do video. I can’t wait to try them I know they’ll come out delicious!!
I'm peruvian too! I will have to try this recipe. I make alfajores all the time but my recipe is different. 😃❤
I'm from Argentina and I suggested this recipe over a year ago, not sure if you saw it, lol! The recipe is perfect! I make them and sell them on weekends and they're so popular! I make them thicker, both the dough and the dulce de leche layer, just because here you can get different densities of dulce de leche. The one you have would be the one to spread, but there are two types more dense, made for pastries or baking. And also you can just put that dulce de leche you have in a pot stirring constantly for like 8-12 minutes and it would thicken up! Thanks for making these!!!
Hello! As an Argentinian I can say for sure you just honored one of our favourite candys! We use a dulce de leche special for bakery, wich is more stiff and allow us to put a scadalous amount in there. Thank you John!!
These are wildly popular in Chile! My husband is Chilean and I lived there for a bit. Dulce de leche there is called manjar, and it's in all the good desserts!
Heyy! Here in El Salvador 🇸🇻 we just call them “Alfajores” and we usually dip them in sugar glass as well! Just for that extra sweetness ✨🍁
I love how calm and wholesome John is
I really appreciate the detail and specificity in the closed captions including sounds and prosody. Definitely helps to feel real effort and equal access to great content!
you're my favorite baker, thank you for the recipes
I’m from Uruguay and alfajores were my childhood treat, thanks for making them
I love the texture of corn starch. It reminds me of Play-Doh, but non-sticky.
Oh myy I'm from Argentina and I love alfajores de maicena. Can't believe you made this, they look amazing!!! Im such a fan of your videos, keep it up!
Tu me encantas John! You've reignited that baking spark and just in time for the holidays.
I’m very excited to see you tried Alfajores. I’m Peruvian (my parents were born there) and I was born in Argentina and I remember always making what we call “ Alfajores con Manjar Blanco ( dulce de leche) with my grandmother. I’m grateful to have learned her recipe and share the memories we had baking these delicious cookies and enjoying it with tea or milk. My grandmother passed away recently from Pulmonary Fibrosis and Covid. ❤️ Thank you for sharing this video and I always look forward to the next. 😄
John, I love your videos!!! you make everyone smile. I have never found a baking youtube channel as good as yours!!!
I love alfajores!!! They are delicious!

Hi John, I made these and my hubby eyes changed color when he tasted this treat. It was that good! Another winning cookie recipe from your playlist!
This looks AMAZING!!! your my favourite baker of all time! and i love ur recipes you re such an inspiration.
These are called “alfajores de maicena” in Argentina :)
I'm Brazilian and I was confused about that, the Argentinean alfajores I got in Buenos Aires were the ones that are softer and covered with chocolate, those are also easy to find here in Sao Paulo. This cookies he made we call "Casadinhos", two cornstarch cookies glued together with some sort of filling, and they are way more common here than the traditional Argentinean alfajores
En realidad las maicenitas son diferentes jajaj (soy de Jujuy). Tendría que hacer alfajores marplatenses, ya que son los mas conocidos
yesss i’m from argentina and i love seeing people from other countries making them!!!! u should do more recipies with dulce de leche🇦🇷🇦🇷💗💗
Cookies look so perfect
Happy Thanksgiving John & family !! Hope you all enjoyed your day together !!
Just made these and omg😫 they’re so good, my family loved them.
Im from argentina and i call them "alfajores de maicena", most of the time they're actually gluten free

I love this! I grew up in 🇵🇪 Peru and always always had them! Nice job! We call Dulce de Leche, Manjar Blanco, but it’s the same thing. 😉
Yum! “Such a treat to have with coffee in the morning... in the afternoon... or at nighttime!” I felt that in my soul 😂
I'm from Venezuela and my grandma would make these a little thicker and bigger and they were such a special treat cause they just melt in your mouth. Loved seeing your recipe John! I haven't these in years, I'll probably have to make some of my own
I'm chilean living in the states and my American friend loves them. I make them for him and his family every so often
I’m from Argentina and my mom makes these all the time. Delicious.
Thank you, Gracias, etc. This has been my favorite cookie since I visited Patagonia and they were everywhere! But..I love them best with powder sugar and bite-size.
I’m making the dulce de leche now and watched a few videos as my daughters South American husbands family loves these, and smaller is better as they are sweet. Your recipe looks exactly what I want!
Hello John, u really are great at baking! Thank you for making these videos for us!
i’ve become a HUGE preppy kitchen fan over the recent weeks and i’ve made several of your recipes for my thanksgiving and the family LOVED everything ☺️ i’m thinking about making these cookies for my job’s cookie exchange, i’ll sub out the coconut for roasted pecan pieces ❤️
Dear Sir, I love your recipes and there's something sweeter than them, you. 💙 from South America
The smaller ones are perfect!! Never tried these but they look delicious 😍
Made these yesterday!!! I'm not able to eat them myself, but gave them away and got rave reviews! I made my own dulce de leche, and was so excited and had plenty of dulce de leche left, I'm baking more today
Me encanta Preppy Kitchen!
Peru is where I first had these which were made by some precious friends from the church there. These bring back some sweet, literal and emotional, memories for me. When I make them I simply sprinkle with powdered sugar as I had them there. ❤️
I actually made some two days ago... They are truly delicious 😋. Greetings from this Chilean girl living in Germany!
I went to culinary school a couple of years ago with a woman from Chile. I remember her bringing these with her to class one day for us all to try. They were so yummy!
My neighbor brought me some for Christmas and I loved them so much that I was hoarding them😉 I’m going to try to make some. Thank you so much and appreciate you sharing this recipe.
Never thought my favorite childhood dessert would become trendy in a million years!
Being multi-cultural himself, John has been exposed to a wider variety of cuisine than your average home cook. He sprinkles in these regional favorites for folks like you who know what they are but perhaps have never made them, as well as for folks like me, who are not familiar but enjoy trying new things and trust that John is going to provide a fool-proof recipe.
I wanted to see your version of this since the dulce de leche video. Thank you!
Love these cookies!! Thank you so much for this video and recipe!!
Excellent recipe! Came out great! Will make again and again!
Happy thanks giving John!
I’ve never heard of these, but can’t wait to try!!
Yeeesss alfajorcitos de maicena!!!!! They are great!!!!! I'm from Argentina
Babe i just made your recipe and it went AMAZING
Amazing! That combination sounds super delicious! 😍
Lol!! I like the feel of corn starch!! It’s so smooth and silky!! And when you squeeze it, it makes a weird noise!! 😂🤪
Try mixing it with water then punch it. It goes from a liquid to a solid instantly. My daughter's when they were younger mixed it & it wouldn't splatter and did this odd liquid to solid thing. Idek
OMG!!! I was looking for an excuse to make this.
You are my soulmate John, love from Mexico
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THESE!! I'M Argentinean and have a baking/cooking channel here on CZcams. I have been following you for a while and love your recipes, excited to see you already have done dulce de leche and now these!!! yay!!!
Me and my mom LOVE dulce de leche. I’ve made these before but the cookies turned out really sweet so it was a lot with the dulce de leche. I’m going to make these soon and I’m very excited. I have made a lot of your recipes (one of my favorites is the apple pie) so I can’t wait to make these!

I’m from the Philippines 🇵🇭 and we also have this treat. We also call it Alfajores, the only difference is that the cookies are smaller and thicker in size. Like a perfect bite size.
In Argentina we call these “Alfajores de maicena” and “maicenitas “ I’m so glad you have a recipe for them!
My friends ! It looks so delicious. Your cooking skills are amazing. Thank you for the good food.❤️

YUM!! I went to Buenos Aires when I was 17, and fell in love with these cookies there - tried to recreate when I got home, but no dice! I'm trying your recipe to see if they capture that memory from 37 years ago!! Thanks John for this jog down memory lane!! ❤️xoxo Amy
YES!! I asked for this recipe!! Gracias
They look delicious!
I can’t believe you are making alfajores😱 it’s a typical treat here in Chile 🇨🇱
Originally from Al-Andalus, around XII-XIII centuries. As most words starting with “al” in Spanish, deriving from Arabic. So interesting to see how it then became such a popular traditional sweet in so many American countries! It makes me want to try all varieties, yum!! :-)
I have never tried them before! I can't wait to make them this week. They look delicious!
Looking good John
Wow...what I was looking for. Thank you John
