  • Yes, you read that title correctly. I personally prefer Dreamworks to Disney and this video will aim to explain why. This is my first video focussed on a topic this general and this controversial so I hope you enjoyed it. If you did then I may do more analytical videos on multiple films instead of just one as it can reach a wider audience. Plus, I had a ton of fun making this

I already know that this video will be somewhat controversial (although to be fair, I have also seen plenty of people sharing similar sentiments due to Dreamworks’ recent successes and Disney’s recent blunders)
I just had to express my opinions because I’m curious to hear what you all think. These are just my opinions so please be civil and respectful but either way, I hope you enjoyed the video

A great, well made and thought provoking video right here. I do honestly agree with your points as I’ve also been on a real Dreamworks high as of late, and they’re a fantastic studio. I still cannot enjoy Shark Tale in anyway though, sorry.
I will also say that I think some Disney films do have the qualities that Dreamworks can, an example for me is Brother Bear, one that I don’t like, but
    1. Does have some genuine merit
    2. It is ironically funny with the voice acting and the comical Phil Collins songs, No Way Out is kinda hysterical.
But yeah, stuff like The Black Cauldron proves your point.
I think the reason that Disney tends to be more popular than Dreamworks comes down to one key factor, Time.
Obviously Disney have been going for almost a century, literally pre World War 2. Whereas Dreamworks Animation have only been here for about 25 years. There’s so many people who have a nostalgic attachment to a Disney film (e.g. I have a friend who loves The Aristocats from their childhood). However, I reckon that in the coming years, we will see the true nostalgic legacy that Dreamworks will leave. I think Shrek is really the only one with that status at the moment, but give it time, and I can guarantee that films like KFP, HTTYD, Megamind, ROFG, Last Wish, etc, will get that same status.

When you think about it, a lot of really popular Disney films like Pinocchio, Bambi, Sleeping Beauty and Treasure Planet were flops when they came out but gained a lot of acclaim later
The same seems to be happening with Dreamworks. Megamind kinda came and went when it was first released but nowadays its a firm cult classic. I think the popularity of the Last Wish is also helping a lot of people go back to and appreciate the older Dreamworks movies (I’ve seen a lot of other people check out the Prince of Egypt for the first time after checking out the Last Wish)

I recommend you watch other animated movies from other studios like blue sky or Sony. They have more experimental movies. I recommend watching blue sky movies first to see some different movies.

    Disney doesn't take risks, period.

It’s a sad fact as they used to take bold risks (like with The Little Mermaid) but nowadays, they’re always falling behind and playing it safe
We really need something bold from them

Great Video and a good honest take 👍 Regarding the subject as a whole, Whilst I agree Disney has definitly become a let down in recent years and Dreamworks is certainly capable of making extraordinary Masterpeices overall I can’t help but personally disagree. Many of the classic Disney movies posses such charm and personality to them I don’t know what it is but many just lure me in which Dreamworks in spite of its more mature storytelling just… can’t capture me in the same way. Sword in the Stone is honestly my favorite disney movie, Yeah it definitly has flaws but there are Also so many moments that are absolutely hillarious to me. Merlin and Archimedes are some of the most entertaining characters I know, the magic duel between Merlin and Mim is awesome and deeply creative and thats not taking into account the side characters like Ser Hector and Kai. On top of that whilst Dreamworks have many movies that are pure works of art, Disney does too. Sleeping Beauty is Gorgeus in animation and has so many different layers to it (not weird as its meant to resemble a medieval tapestry afterall) and the way the story is told gives a sense of epicness that leaves your heart pounding. Pinnochio is also excellent, not only does it look good but it tells its message so beautifully and in a way that isn’t hard for kids to understand. Now in regards to your video itself there is a point I’d like to adress. That Disney has no good sequels.
Whilst its true that 95% of all Disney sequels are absolute dog sh*** there are 2 that are generally considered good and even better compared to the original. Namely 101 Dalmatians 2 Patches adventure in London and Cinderella 3. Both of these are really good and Cinderella 3 in particular is a great improvement over the 1st movies as many characters like Anstasia, the Prince and the King have much more character than they did in the first movie. However all things considered this was a great video and it truly shows of what Dreamworks is capable of. Awesome Job man 👏 Also on a sidenote I do recommend you check out the spiritual sequel to the prince of Egypt “Joseph King of Dreams”. It’s also a Bible movie and like prince of Egypt it’s really good and possibly even better in the story department. It’s a fantastic movie in its own right.

Thank you for giving a fair and respectful disagreement to my point
About the two good direct to DVD sequels, I only recently realised that they were actually done by a different studio to Walt Disney animation so technically they don’t apply to my video at all as I was only referring to my main studio 😅
I’m really glad you like Sword in the Stone. I personally wasn’t able to get into it. I admittedly need to rewatch Sleeping Beauty as well
I do also really like Pinocchio. I don’t love it though because the plot is an absolute mess but I do still enjoy it quite a lot
As for the charm of old Disney movies, I can’t argue with that at all. That is a completely fair point. I just don’t personally feel it for reasons I can’t fully explain
Anyway, thank you for a respectful rebuttal

Imo, the 'worst' of each type is like doctor who
Web Planet may be more well made than Warriors of the Deep
But i would FAR prefer to rewatch warriors

I really don’t like Warriors of the Deep as I do find it really boring for a lot of it BUT I 100% prefer it to the Web Planet. I still get some ironic enjoyment out of Warriors most notably with the Myrka and “FACE IT TEGAN, HE’A DROWNED!!!”
Meanwhile the Web Planet causes me physical pain

Would you still prefer Dreamworks to Disney if the Dreamworks-Aardman films were included?

    • @JAProductions494
      @JAProductions494  Před rokem

Oh definitely. I LOVE the Aardman movies (ok, I don’t love Flushed Away but it’s still enjoyable)
It would 100% improve cement my opinion that I prefer Dreamworks. I just didn’t include them because it felt unfair and those films feel less like Dreamworks movies and more like Aardman movies
