    that is one deadly slow pace. like if plasticine had a sound when you stretch it. if feels like hes watching the sound of his own voice. hearing and watching this is a trip.

    Yeah! Dr. Hannibal Lecter, as portrayed by (a much rejuvenated) Anthony Hopkins, singing a previously unknown Tom Waits song! That's as cool as it gets.

    @marinahcl I agree, accent is essential to a persons essences, obviously some songs are hard to be sung without the accention which is incorporated into the songs foundations but by the by as it is sung and flows graceful its beauty either way.

    @aridal68 no I'm not saying it's odd that he performs the part well, and had he been an actor in a film about delta blues in the 30s, there would have been nothing to say on the topic other than amazing job. It's had to articulate exactly the point I want to make, but I suppose it's all about the question of how much of oneself a singer needs to put into the performance. There's no doubt this music is what he loves and he's doing it out of his passion for the genre and not to impress-cont below

  • @IanBoyterJazzsax
    @IanBoyterJazzsax Před 12 lety

    Sounds fine to me. All good singers decide which voice to sing in to best present their music. Listen to very early Sinatra, amazingly he sings with an English accent, which was in vogue at that time. Only later did he adopt his laconic casual American style.

    starting was perfect. stoneking can be legend like tom waits but he has to correct himself about the middle part of the his songs cause he's like someone can't find motivation for next line of the song , that's difference between him and tom

  • @marinahcl
    @marinahcl Před 13 lety

    (cont. from above) However he is singing in a style which came out of a specific place and time and while we are all influenced by the past, I find it odd to stick to the original style of delivery rather than evolve it into something else. None of this is a criticism of him; I'm just voicing my thoughts on the nature of influence and vintage style.

    This is great music and I love the style, but doesn't anyone find it odd the singer putting on this old crackled voice and basically pretending to be someone totally other than he is? Sure all singing is a performance, but this feels like a bit of a sham (even though he does it brilliantly). Just wondering what others' views are on this?

    • @patrickhoulihan7210

      My opinion is that you don't have a grasp of the world of music and consider that anything retro is unacceptable.

    • @catxanax
      @catxanax Před 6 lety +1

      Both of his parents were American but he was born in Australia, also if you hear him speak his voice really is that raspy and old sounding. So I really wouldn’t consider this to be some facade he’s putting on.
