The transmission will calculate the load and adjust the starting gear as it needs. Most people end up hating the max start gear being set to 1st as you won't be able to manually upshift when not moving.

Regarding your fridge, that little compartment on top with the door is almost certainly a small freezer compartment. At least, it has been on every other mini fridge I've seen - your mileage may vary 😅

The trucks used around here in forestry for hauling wood chips need the fuel fill at the front. This is because one of the paper mills unloads by tipping entire truck and trailer up on end. So all your fuel would run out the vent in the cap. :D

It’s hard to pay all the tax when buying a new semi. Glad farm equipment isn’t taxable. It’s nuts that you buy brand new semis as a farmer. That’s one thing most skimp on.

Very nice ride. The last one I owned as an Owner Operator was a 9900I with a DD14 tuned to 550 HP. It had a 13 Double over and a full Eagle package and an Arctic Kit from the factory. The truck had a Canadian Spread air bag setup and it was the most comfortable IH I ever owned. What a sweet ride. I enjoy your videos here in Liverpool NY as I retired 6 years ago

  • @markam306
    @markam306 Před 2 lety +4

Congrats on your new ride Mike, love that big red engine !!!
You mention the value of torque to pull the rig down the highway. Luckily, vehicles come with a torque multiplying device, the transmission. The torque that matters is the output shaft of the transmission, i.e. the drive shaft. (One could also pick the torque at the drive wheels if you want to include the final drive gearing in the conversation. This ratio is fixed). Diesel engines make their torque at a reasonably low rpm, which makes the power conveniently available without racing the engine. As long as the truck transmission has the right gears available, you can convert the engine’s power to torque at the driveshaft. Engine horsepower climbs hills, the torque that makes this happen is at the OUTPUT of the transmission.

Hey Mike, love your channel and content, I’m a truck driver myself, firstly, that’s a nice rig, I used to drive manuals when I first started driving 14years ago, over time most companies are moving to autos, they are better all round, and yes they do last longer, definitely put a CB radio in your truck if you are doing a fair bit of long haul driving, I understand where you are coming from with listening to tunes, I do that too (and podcasts) but, having a radio to communicate with other truck drivers is very important and could even save lives, you can warn other drivers of car accident, roadworks to avoid, also if something is lose on your load or something like that, others can warn you ect, lastly, in that fridge the top compartment should be a freezer yes, I have driven a truck with a similar fridge. Happy trucking mate, cheers from Australia 🇦🇺

K read a few other comments and the transmission details have been well gone over , over on this side of the world we have to pay quiet a bit extra for a manual gearbox in a truck and have done for years now I haven't bought a manual truck since about 2013 when I bought the first automatic I asked the dealer what was likely to go wrong and he asked me what causes most gearbox damage , of course I went through a number of general gearbox clutch issues that you would commonly have and after listening for a while he interrupted me and said nope most of your problems stem from the idiot sitting in the cab. In the intervening years I have often thought about this and he was totally right , we have very little trouble with transmissions since we got away from manual, any problems are generally electrical now.

For a test take a bowl of water. Fill it a 3/4 full, now tilt the bowl till the water is about to run over the edge, now look at the center of the bowl, the level is much lower. That is why filler ports are not on the end of a fuel tank.

I hate to hear people harp on the importance of torque vs HP. from a physics point of view HP is power literally electrical Watts. Or in theoretical terms the speed and size of a weight that can be lifted.
Another way to put it is that a 800HP super car engine will out "lift" or preform your 600HP truck. The super car engine just needs to run at 6000 RPM and have a big gearbox.

Mike I’m OCD also! I couldn’t live with the lights like that 🙄🙄🙄🙄! I would be definitely adding another one 😜😜😜😜! How does it ride? I know it’s fairly short wheelbase compared to what most run in the US, but that engine seems farther back than normal ??? Also I would be checking that front rear end, where you were showing the fluids on the rear fenders! It looks like the front rear axle might be leaking from the pinion 🙄🙄🙄🙄! I hope it is exactly what you ordered! I’ve been around semi trucks since I was a kid! I’ve seen huge oil leaks, water leaking into the cabs, wrong transmission 🙄🙄🙄🙄, wrong rear end gear ratio, both rear ends in one truck had no oil in them 🤬🤬🤬🤬, even the frame rails in the rear being off height wise almost 2 inches 🙄🙄🙄🙄🤬🤬🤬🤬! We only found that when we went to install the rear hitch! Similar to yours! Luckily it went back to the dealer, they loosened all the crossmember bolts & were able to align it correctly! Thank God, because he waited 6 months for that Kenworth & we thought that was along time 🙄🙄🙄🙄! It was a special order heavy haul truck! Doesn’t it break your heart ❤️ to run a brand new super expensive truck in the shit 🤬🤬🤬🤬! Even though that’s what there made for 😂😂😂😂! We would usually run our old trucks in the winter & keep the new hotness inside 😂😂😂😂, unless it was sold already 🙄🙄🙄🙄! But if it wasn’t necessary, we kept our old trucks until the new one proved herself 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻! Love the gigantic hood ❤️❤️❤️❤️! Automatic is absolutely the way to go when you have to put some FCKTARDS in your trucks 🙄🙄🙄🙄🤬🤬🤬🤬! For what they cost, it should come with it’s own detailer! How is it so filthy already 🙄🙄🙄🙄! Almost 1000 miles already? I really hope they didn’t use your truck to haul 3 others to the dealer 🤬🤬🤬🤬! There supposed to use dealer stock trucks for that BS, not a customer’s brand new super expensive truck 🙄🙄🙄🙄! It doesn’t really look like they detailed it at the dealer 🤬🤬🤬🤬! Which again for the cost, it should be perfect with very few miles, & full of fuel ⛽️ at least! I hate to keep adding to this book 📕, but you might want to see if it has a idle time shutdown 🙄🙄🙄🙄! Because most new trucks are timed to shut off in just a few minutes 🙄🙄🙄🙄! Also only dealer adjusted! Really sucks when your working! Very very nice truck! I wish you the best 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻!

  • @tony-the-tigerjohns3294

HorsePOWER is what powers you down the road. You can have torque at zero rpm, think of trying to turn a bolt with a wrench but the bolt will not turn. You are applying torque with the wrench but getting nothing done.
It is torque combined with rpm that makes horsePOWER and powers you down the road or across the field.

My guess on the fuel tank fill ports would be that when going up hill the fuel could run out the back. I know the tanks have baffles but that is just to keep the fuel from slouching. Just a thought. Love your video’s, just a thought from a Mitchell in southern Ohio. Nice truck.

I'd say it's so you can order a day cab model and you can put anything on the back like a service box that might block access to the tank so they put the filler as far forward as they can

    • @jmit5650

I believe the A26 Navistar Engine is a MAN. Been using it since 2018 or 19?

The truck should know when your loaded to start you off in first gear and when your not loaded start you in third gear I think.

Shame you don't get European trucks over there.
A nice Scania V8 would've instantly become the most desired truck in all of the land!
