- Al Caiola was a 1960s specialist in the "big guitar" sound like Duane Eddy. He did a lot of TV and movie themes with exciting orchestra. These four selections are almost too much.
1) High Chaparral - This 1968 TV series theme, composed by David Rose, was included on Caiola's LP "It Must Be Him".
2) Autumn In Cheyenne - 1961 single backed with Speak Low
3) The Scalphunters - 1968 movie theme, written by Elmer Bernstein, like The Magnificent Seven
4) Ring Of Fire - The Johnny Cash song. Another exciting arrangement. Duane Eddy had an instrumental around that time with exactly the same title, but it was a completely different song. The labels here make the mistake of crediting this composition to Eddy. This was written by Merle Kilgore, like Wolverton Mountain and He Understands Me.
There is a Caiola import CD collection titled Bonanza available now at Amazon.
He also tinkered with jazz-pop, and did all kinds of international music. He's ethnically Italian, and still around. Don't know if he ever does live performances.
Al Caiola transformed this TV theme into one incredible sonic orgasm that takes you out, away, back to a long ago forgotten time (the Wild West or maybe just the 1960s when they wrote original songs for TV shows) if you sit back with headphones u can go all the way back ... to the "High Chapparel" ... unforgettable twangy masterpiece !
I heard him when I was in 8th Grade from Coimbatore India My Uncle played this music I might have this record I love a US Marine so Beautifully God Bless his family
VERY COOL AL CAIOLA! YOU ARE THE MAN!! His guitar twang is perfect for driving those long distances out West in the desert going back to your very own HIGH CHAPARRAL!! This song almost sounds like a modern guitar song from the movie Breathless starring Richard Gere.
I first heard this music in 1988 and fell in love with this..at the same time I saw a movie festival of Cowboy movies at Chanakya Theatre in New Delhi. I remember some of these music and murmur with the music. My all time favrt.

I bought a cassette of this album in a truck stop in 1988 while driving to my new posting in El Paso Texas with the 3rd ACR seemed fitting was a long drive across Texas and that cassette stayed in the player all the way there. I still have it , im looking at it now but I do not have anything to play it in anymore
incredible music!
You must have had that 9-song tape with High Chaparral plus other songs not in this post. Bonanza etc.

The TV theme masterfully done by Al makes it into a sonic orgasm ... really takes you down ... to the southwest and ... "the High Chapparel" ... awesome

Cheyenne in Autumn is a real tribute to the visual beauty of the Great American west ... makes one ready to visit cowboy country to enjoy the beautiful autumn gold of the passing year.
This is great!
This has to be one of the best cover versions on you tube, Al certainly does justice to one of the best TV themes ever recorded

I can only say, I like
Al Caiola (September 7 1920 - November 9 2016)
Let's hear it for the backing instrumentals, the guitar is just part of the situation here, but not standout.
@yandrsupreme I find that Caiola's Bonanza is blocked on CZcams by Warner.
You don't hear the similarities to "Telstar" anyone?
,,Rangers Julian Sanchez and Melina Mourino.
