She didn't make it out before that though. She's on a G7 council and has been advocating for women's rights for a long while. And we all know that there are a ton of people who think those rights are bad.
Economics change, so politics change. Women's rights make perfect sense in some eras, not in others.
After WW1 in Europe, there were not a lot of woman wanting more from men, when there was a huge shortage of men, and wealth.
Not a huge number of feminists in the Great Depression or the 1950s either.

Daniel Radcliffe has said he made enough money as Harry Potter that he could now chose the off-beat, zany roles that appealed to him, not necessarily the ones that would bring him the most money.

@jessicagalvan3358 did you miss the part where he says she actually working? She won't be broke if she works and makes good financial decisions.
Rickman was talking about them as kids. They were inexperienced and needed a director that was not managing a blockbuster franchise. That or an acting coach. Everyone remembers at least one moment where she would enunciated everything too much. It was charming and cute for a kid but they all needed training
This totally took the comments out of context
Yes, and most of them weren’t very good in at least the first two movies or so. The only kids that were good actors from the jump were Matthew Lewis (Neville) and Tom Felton (Draco), sometimes Rupert Grint (Ron).
They never shoukd have revealed them anyway. A disgusting violation in my opinion.
I think her quitting is a smart choice
I don’t care what profession I was in, if I had $85 million you’d never fucking hear from me again. I would literally hire somebody full-time 24 seven to make sure nobody knew where I was what I was doing or anything about me so I could have nothing but my money and my privacy.
This is so funny but hard agree. Having 'enough' is more profound than most people realise - it's smtg most people never get
Thing is, most people drawn to acting like to be in the limelight, at least somewhat. Makes you wonder what happened that put her off acting so completely.
@@ford289cid7 she satiated her desire to be in the spotlight. Now she can ride off into the sunset, always looking fondly back on those days
@ford289cid7 child actors usually don't have a childhood. Imagine being famous at age 8 or 9 or something like that. You know when you already feel weird about yourself. Next thing you know everyone knows who you are and assume the character you play on TV is actually you. Or only wants to be your friend because you are famous and know other famous people since you work with them. It can be very isolating for young people. I am not 100% sure why she decided to stop acting, but I am sure that may have been a contributing factor.
She is a real life Hermione. More interested in books than acting
I remember her saying she didn’t feel like she was like Hermione in real life.
@nuclearcatbaby1131 and I remember the entire cast of the Harry Potter movies saying Emma Watson was Hermione in real life.
She'd love to act and I recall reading an interview where she talked about wanting to working with many big directors, even naming several (I can't remember the name of the interview where she talked about it). Unfortunately there are few respected filmmakers who'd like to work with her after her recent performances and the criticism she got for them (deservedly), and I don't think Emma wants (or needs for financial reasons) to take just about any role just to be an actress. She was a great Hermione, but unfortunately her acting skills didn't improve much over the course of the series. The opposite of Dan, really...
@@triton4411 Yeah the only other character I can think of that she played is Belle who is also a lot like Hermione. She’s getting typecast into the bookish girl roles.
@@nuclearcatbaby1131She’s been in quite a bit actually, I see her pop up from time to time in indie films and films for smaller niche audiences for smaller production companies, but yeah, her most notable was definitely Belle after Hermione. She’s been typecast and I know how frustrating that can be as someone who did quite a bit of local stage acting earlier on and was notoriously typecast. It’s infuriating when one wants to build on and into different characters. It happens more with women than it does with men in the industry I’m afraid. It happens to men as well, but not nearly as often as it does for women and as they age they have to begin writing and directing their own parts and films in order to do anything they really like as they are considered to have “aged out”.
If the tabloids treated me like they did her, I would want to leave too honestly
How often do people say that if they won a lottery, they would quit work and pursue whatever they desire? So Emma has $85 mil. Shouldn't be surprising that she wants to pursue her own projects. Why bother committing to acting and the bull that comes with fame. She can live a chill life, low key. Good for her.
Good for her. The industry is evil
Yup. Remember when she spoke of how on the night of her 18th birthday the paparazzi sat on the floor to take pictures up her skirt and uploaded them because she had just turned 18 so it wasn't illegal anymore? And she woke up to see them the morning after? It's literally heartbreaking.

@@Theproclaimed so you wouldn’t proclaim someone with 85mil to be living a normal life?
Jk Rowling DID NOT personally pick Emma Watson for the role of Hermione. She didn’t even know who she was until after she had the role and they were filming. And while she did know Evanna Lynch (character Luna) through some correspondence when Evanna suffered from an eating disorder, she found out she got the role and was pleasantly surprised. She had no say in deciding the roles for anybody in the HP movies. She sold the rights to Warner Brothers.
She made a success of acting without ever appearing nude or doing sex scenes, thus retaining her dignity and integrity. Much respect! ✊
Well there was a movie where she showed her breast and I was caught off guard when I was watching that movie
Nude or sex scenes aren't bad and not harming dignity and integrity if it has artistic value. But yeah, she didn't do a lot of "artsy" movies.
@kevin8439: I disagree. It's selling self respect for money, so it's the same as prostitution. There's really no need for such content in dramas as they add nothing to the storyline and are only of interest to voyeurs and wankers.
@lynnhall8720 Why is someone having enough self-respect to be comfortable appearing nude so offensive to you? If someone wants to do something with their own body, it's on them.
Also, how did you come to the conclusion that you have the authority to decide for everyone what is frivolous and what isn't? Some people like the idea of being allowed to form their own opinions.
Outside of her role in Harry Potter, her playing Sam in the Perks of Being a Wallflower was my favorite
That was my favorite role of hers too!
Loved that movie, and for whatever reason it really spoke to me as a teen at the time (im not sure why that movie specifically struck a chord and other YA stuff didnt at the time) Ive never wanted to rewatch it mostly because it sits as a time capsule in my mind of that period of my life and how ive grown. I dont want to find out it wasnt actually as good as I remember, and as dumb as it sounds, dont want it to screw with my memories of teen experiences.
Umm,, she was nice in the film but very apart from what Sam was in the books!

Happiness is always short term, it pops up and fades, you can't have eternal happiness as that's just called content. Chasing happiness only leads to misery.
I don’t think that acting is her calling. She is set for life as it is. She was a child actress so what can we expect? She did fine in the HP series. People who loved the books, overlooked the acting of the kids. We just appreciate that they stuck with it and did the best that they could. The 7th book should have been rewritten and movies 7 & 8 remade. Not their fault. Frankly, I believe that JKR lost her magic while writing the end of the story line. She was burned out, killed everyone off, and wrote an unrealistic ending.
If I had $85 million dollar I wouldn’t work anywhere anymore. 😂
Good for her. She did her acting and made her money. It's probably the healthiest decision. Honestly, Hollywood looks real toxic.
She's wealthy. She is financially independent. Work is optional for her. She has some serious sources of income though.
You can tell works optional just from all her recent works. All of them are something you can tell she personally wants to partake in (like Little Women for example) rather than just doing it for the sake of a job (for example, Hugh Grant doing roles he's dislikes for the sake of a role)
Much respect for someone who has the wisdom to stay away after they get to a good level of success. It is wise to focus on other parts of life instead of being drawn like a moth to a flame.
I love Emma Watson and I hope she’s doing good outside of acting
I mean she should just relax but what she does for other work is misguided.
British people seem to be good with their money. You will notice that if you check the net worths of British stars that are no longer active and considered “old news”, they are still worth just about as much as they were in their prime. Not like over here in the US where you see that somebody who put out a bad album, or they don’t/can’t get leading roles anymore, you expect them to be broke, and they really are. Not so across the pond. Daniel Radcliffe is worth £95M pounds which is over $120 million, and he was a child star. They all were, and they really managed to keep their funds as opposed to falling victim to the “celebrity disease“. He retains his wealth instead of spending it on a bunch of nonsensical luxury, and most stars from the UK in general seem to avoid leeches in their entourages. Even Rupert Grint is worth $50 million. Just wow.
Maybe it has to do with the parents not relying on their children for an income 🤔
Yup people in the states are poor poor and the parents and brothers and sisters and all use that money to live comfortably
Yeah most of the times is due to bad management, look at Micheal Jackson one of the richest pop starts ever and the man was broke as hell, how was that even possible?!? They spend all on debit living it big but they don’t even know how much they have left then when it’s time to pay they have nothing left. Also the taxes they pay are crazy. In UK people aren’t that extreme if she came from a wealthy family they are posh and real posh people in the UK are very clever with their money. They’ll invest it and keep it coming for generations to come.
It's because Britain has "class" which you can't buy and culture you can't bypass. It's considered extremely poor taste to spaff your money up the wall on nonsense and rather than demonstrating social capital, it betrays a lack of attention to what matters and a lack of self-respect. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of Brits who go to the US because they lack that impulse, but real British class can't be bought or born into, it is earned. Which is why Prince Andrew has none and Barbara Windsor had it in spades.
So many actors fall into the ego and high of it all. Which makes child stars much more venerable to loosing it all as they are exposed to the celebrity world so much earlier.
"Emma Watson is out.." got me thinking that she came out as gay or bisexual 😅 😂

She was intelligent with her selection in acting roles. She maintained her wholesome character and that’s why she is so successful. You never see any negative press about her, it’s so rare to see this in Hollywood.
She got slammed for being woke and stabbing JK Rowling in the back for suggesting that a woman is a female.

From the first time I read my first Harry Potter book, back in 2000/2001 at the age of 30, I was hooked. I could see the characters in my mind's eye. The bright, luminescent big green eyes of Harry, with his black untameable hair (not unneat, untameable). Dudley with small beady eyes, blond hair and tremendously overweight. And then hermoine with her big teath and bushy hair. Bill, tall handsome and charlie, shorter than Bill but with strong arms. The 4 actors that were cast in these roles didn't fit the description at all and it was such a let down. I am hoping with a new series and the advances with CGI, we would hopefully br closer to the books. Also the changing of the plot or character between the book and the movies can also be fixed
They were the right people for the movie. They tried green contact lenses on Daniel Radcliffe but his eyes got infected from them. The first three movies followed the story in the book closely.Movie six was a real let down. It strayed significantly from the plot on the book, deleting or omitting events in the book but then adding totally irrelevant scenes in the movie that had nothing to do with the events in the book.

To be fair, she has a lot of money not only from her movies but from her brand deals, fashion ambassador, etc. But I think the main reason she is stepping down is because she is the least talented of the trio. She is an okay actress but only because her early success made her a household name worldwide and she had the chance of 8 movies to learn to act from the best actors in the UK. If you compare her acting to Daniel or Ruperts she still falls short and never really diversified from the "Hermione" type character (Bookish and sassy) while Daniel and Rupert have thrown themselves into the craziest roles they could find as well as other HP alumni who show up in theater, cinema, sit coms and other acting gigs. She seems more successful because her acting gigs are always big projects but she hasn't really matured as an actor and the public that grew up with her is bound to catch up at some point if she keeps doing basic love stories.

@@mrconfusion87 _"she is easily one of the most recognizable actresses"_
Thank you for sharing your completely irrelevant comment about how well known she is, which has NOTHING to do with whether or not she is one of the most successful actresses of all time, which she isn't.
@the_weird_girl2042Nope. Emma Watson is not even in the same country as the ballpark of *HUNDREDS* of *FAR MORE SUCCESSFUL* actresses than her. Given that the claim is _"of all time"_ there would be *AT LEAST* 500 actresses who have been more successful than her.
Become an auctioneer man wtf
she doesn't want to sell her soul, good for her!
Just to be clear. She never said she was retiring or quitting acting. She just said she is simply taking a break until the right moment and project comes along.
I'm glad. I really wasn't a big fan of her work. Her role in Beauty and the Beast was terrible.
Thank you! Not just because of her bad acting and worse singing but the story changes ruined it. For example - in the cartoon, you can actually see them falling in love. Beast wants to give her the library to do something nice for her. In the live action, he does it to brag because he’s being rude.
@@KittenUndercover I agree, plus there was no chemistry or believability. In most of her roles she comes off as a know it all and that just wasn't Belle at all.
The public's main complaint about her in Beauty and the Beast - her singing! 🤣🤣🤣
She's beautiful and talented and knows what she wants to do. She should do whatever it is.
She is a multimillionaire, well educated in Brown University, young and beautiful. She doesn’t need to work for the rest of her life. Good for her!
She's set for life. No need for her to work anyway.
You'd still get bored without having any work to focus on and some people just like working.
After a curtain point it's no longer about the money it's about the work and the love of acting do you think Ryan Reynolds or Sandra Bullock etc still need money 💰 🙄
@@breewasherework is slavery end of the day. No freedom 🤮😂
@@breewashereit's not that she isn't working. She just don't want to be in acting business. Zayn stopped doing concerts bcz of his anxiety but he was doing other things like collab with fashion companies and doing songs with other singers for movies, and now also doing voice over. He is moving towards business. Those ppl have the luxury to do business abd investment bcz they have right ppl to help them out and they have the money and I think it's nice for those who don't want to be in limelight all the time.
@@rustyshackleford6035lol such a random pick of celebs Sandra bullock?? 😂 she doesn't act much
