    My first "car" was a 1951 Chevy 3100. We were the same age. ;-). I didn't fully appreciate it, miss it now.

    I have a 1950 3/4 ton Chevy that I've had 33 years and my brother 20 years before that. Two February's ago it passed one million miles. It now has power steering, power (still drum) brakes, non-split-rim wheels (too dangerous), a Dana 60 limited-slip differential and a 4-link rear end. A 4-speed 700R4 automatic transmission and a 383 Stroker engine. Its my daily driver and when I get too old to drive it anymore, my daughter wants it.

    6:18 my dad bought a new 1950 five window 3100. I totally restored it 25 years ago 216 and 3 on the tree,no rust always garaged from new. We have always called it old RED, my wife of 46 years loves to ride in it.

    Grandfather had one. I remember the starter was a button on the floor and the battery was in a hatch on the passenger side floorboard.

    I own 1954 3600. It's in pieces in my garage. I hope to get it running soon. This is the inspiration I needed to get back into my garage. Great video!

    I've got a '52 half-ton with a 261 Engine and a later model open drive-line. 3:08 rear axle. Otherwise mostly stock except for 12 volts, seat belts and a few other things. Runs fine. Everyday driver for the last 30 years.

    Beautiful truck. Nice rundown, thank you. These videos work well with Eric joining you. That low gearing probably sold a lot of overdrive boxes, just as the low gearing on Landcruisers, etc. sold a lot of Fairey overdrives in Australia, right into the 90s. Now the Aussies just fit Allison 6-speed autos if they have to do the long drives (and they have the cash)!

    Thanks, “Team Truck”….. oddly interesting quick overview….Anyways, remembering a few Farm trucks from my Work: 1940-50 models, some worked really hard. Anyways, after getting my first new truck.: 2007 GMC CANYON SL( loaded , exc 4WD); getting real interest in ( especially) early GMC, Studebaker specials…

      Thanks, about same here, but: some rational life saving upgrades ok, etc.. ( brakes,tires), I lost brakes, in water couple times, & had a 54 CHEV BELAIR lose the one **Brake System(** scariest, as I was backing carefully down driveway, to roadway, “adjacent to 50 foot drop to LAke on Other Side of road! Fortunately, I turned , quickly, proper direction mild uphill Grade.,,, ( second luck, no traffic!!)..Probably made more scary by remembering vividly over 60++ years, etc, & all the sketch old trucks / cars we worked on & drove.!

    Very nice truck for the most part, just not the cheapo tires on it, I cant hate too hard since my rampage came with a new set of prime-well's but I've worked at a firestone affiliate and those are the bottom bin option, defiantly not rated for any kind of load either, but hey if their black and round and hold air it works, and I did buy a trailer tire to replace the spare, which probably isn't the "right" choice, it's a shame those retro full side whitewall's are so expensive those would look really nice on that truck.

    Very few shops won’t mess with split rims anymore. They don’t have the tools or the necessary skills plus they are afraid of them…for good reason. What does a person do if they have these now?

    • @michaelguerin56
      @michaelguerin56 Před 2 lety

      Back in the 1970s Autocar magazine (the original one, still going) published a black and white photo, showing the ceiling of a Norwegian tyre bay. You could see the outline of the tyre technician’s body where he was thrown up after the tyre blew. He failed to use a safety cage after changing a tyre on a split-rim wheel. Sobering image.

    • @kw9849
      @kw9849 Před rokem +1

      Firstly, these don't have split rims (AKA RH-5's), they have lock-ring wheels (either 2 or 3 piece); They're a completely different design. One of the advantages is that you can change them yourself, though an abundance of caution and a set of chains is recommended.

    • @craigjorgensen4637
      @craigjorgensen4637 Před rokem

      @@kw9849 call them whatever you wish to but all of these are commonly known as Solit Rims. All are dangerous! Some much more than others. It takes training, caution and the proper tools.
