As someone on the other video of this on youtube noted (that is significantly lower-quality yet more popular??), it's worth remembering that this was a pretty big moment for Trey. It was his first time on stage since getting sober 7 months earlier. He reportedly even had to get his judge to sign off on going. While he does seem a little timid at the beginning, it definitely feels like somewhere around the 4:45 mark, after what looks like a little nudging from Dave, he clicked and instantly got his confidence back.
This started the road to Hampton 2009 and phish 3.0. Really, really grateful that he got sober. While he may not have the machine gun speed like the early-mid 90s, to me he continues to get better and better every year. There's no guitarist out there better at building music to giant, emotional peaks. This was a good one. Glad I ran across this version
So cool. I'm sober from alcohol and guitarist and my mom sent me this tonight ... Chills.
Derek trucks can build monsters as well
@@kbbl102.5 your mom is cool, this solo is all time considering the gravity of the situation.
Exactly. This is probably such a special moment for him. Learning how to fly all over again
Someone: how many times have you watched this video?
Me: yes
This is an important historical artifact
One Show At A Time ❤️
My first Dave show ever. My 16tj birthday. This got me to go to 70 phish shows. Thank you Dave and thank you trey. Love you both.
So cool nice work !
no matter how many times, it still gives me chillbumps and brings happy tears
Unspeakably beautiful, the way Trey and Beauford feed off each other is magic
One of the best live solos of all time, from the slow buildup, to the eruption, to the attitude at @6:28...
no doubt
a monumental moment in time, like spring after a long cold winter, don't give up hope
I was there. Total magic. Tears in my eyes. Amazing.
Me too, brother! Also there crying like baby...
god damn i fucking love trey
Especially when he turns his amp up to drown all the other great musicians out !!yea god damn I love trey too
Chris M the two bands I’ve seen the most live... phish 125 dmb 21... luckily started seeing both in the late 90s. Wish I was earlier to both, but I cherish everything I’ve seen by both
Sir, I never say thank you to people who post stuff on CZcams.
Thank you for this.
All you need is a little help to get you going again.
Trey being the trey we know and love dear
Chills still 5 yrs later
Almost 15 years later now. 😳
Seeing this in person live was the existence of being alive.
The last year of dmb... things changed when leroi passed a year later and now without Boyd, it’s just different. 98-02 were years I will never forget, so many epic shows I saw by both phish and dmb
I really do not understand why they haven't replaced Boyd, to me dmb isn't dmb without a violinist. Dmb fans get pissy whenever I mention it but to me it just doesn't sound the same without that instrument being part of the sound.
@@lucasm7177 I 100% agree. 90% of their catalog was written with violin, and it’s not like it’s another guitarist that left the band, it’s a main component in what made their songs different. Obviously the dude did some weird shit, but atleast get someone to replace him, don’t just erase one of the best parts about their music
@@atamagashock I agree, it's so weird that they haven't replaced him. IDK what Boyd has been doing but I wonder if maybe Dave is hoping to have him back at some point after he gets therapy or whatever, but it's so strange that they haven't replaced him at least with someone temporarily. Dancing Nancies was one of my favorites and Cornbread, like those don't sound right without a violinist.
This video has been a staple in my virtual library for years, thank you!
Even without great sound, I've recommended this video so many times to friends who need a fun pick me up
This vid will never get old
trey is a god
damn straight... was too young to see Jerry live, so Trey is my guitar deity
Such a great example as to why trey is so wonderful. I'm sure only DMB fans remember anything but trey and that beautiful peak
Bro, this solo is all I remember from that show, 12 years later. Everyone that was there remembers this. It was incredible.
@@edgonzalez32 Awesome, so jealous :)
Really wish Dave would release this, it's such an amazing solo and such an amazing piece of music
Edit: first time listening in about a year..still gives me the chills such an amazing solo considering where Trey's life was at
Hose!!
¡que belleza. ¡Muchas gracias!
trey makes this performance
Thank you so much for putting this up in good sound quality. It's so fucking good, and I was always going back to another version with lesser quality.
Me too for years
This is the most inspiring solo maybe ever
@@dustinbryan9701 hellz yeah
Still one of the best trey magic
nice edit, thanks, very emotional concert.
Ben Jacobs redemption for big red.
A+
Chills
"...sweet like candy to my soul..."
worlds colliding
Kramer had to tell me about the worlds.
my god....
amazing solo but let's not forget about Carter building that beast every step of the way
It's like surfing. Trey catches the Carter wave and just rides it. Pure hose
My fav LIOG to bad the taper didnt get the end w/ no reprise and the startled look on Daves face!
***** i have been looking for this for a while. Is there no full footage video? I loved the very end of this jam, any idea where I could find it?
I just want to tell Boyd to sit back and watch. Quit trying to get involved in this shit.
Very funny
Almost unfair to take the sheer musician talent of DMB... then add Trey. Dave really "gets it". We get to enjoy some remarkable stuff... and yet there's MORE that happened.
bump.
What was boyd thinking trying to solo after that's
LOL, exactly. Love how the video just fades once Boyd jumps in and gives it a go
LOL must be similar to when Hendrix was opening for the Monkees, except the lame monkey fans bood him!
anyways yeah it's like eating a salad AFTER dessert. Sure Boyd still plays a few good "croutons" in there, but we just tasted chocolatey goodness. It's hard to get excited about even the most delicious salad after that. Regardless of the croutons.
mg37948 It is from a portion of Black Jack.
is the intro Blackjack? if so, which show??
there is a LIOG with Trey from 2001 circulating around on CZcams...and as much as that is a more complete video, this jam with Trey is so much better (despite the Trey-Boyd dual on 2001 video)
Dude
trey>dave
