ABOUT US
Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.

We have the home version and used it while traveling full time in our RV (crossing the United States 4.5 times in two years). With cellphone hotspot it would take hours to upload my vids to CZcams with Starling just a few minutes. We are currently in a sticks and bricks while shopping for our boat and have so called high speed internet with AT&T and doesn’t come close to Starlink. Love it! Happy New Years!

Starlink needs to be converted to a DC to DC setup. There are 3rd party solutions to convert starlink from the AC power, to a DC power which cuts the power usage significantly.
I don’t think going to DC won’t save much, since all you’re cutting out is the inverter. 10-20% is what i see a typical loss there, so for our numbers it is using 90ah instead of 112ah. Definitely an improvement, but still a large draw. Our plan for our next Starlink install is to have a small dedicated inverter for it, so we can save most of that 20% without having to modify the Starlink itself!

I paid a deposit and have been on the waiting list for well over a year. I have about decided to do something different.
Oh darn, we didn't have any wait time and it arrived in about two weeks when we ordered it in August of '22.
I can't believe your Starlink is so slow!... Even at the slowest mine runs 70 mbs, but normally runs 120-150 mbs.... and compared to my KVH, the Starlink is relatively unaffected by weather.... trees, leaves and structures.. YES, storms no.
Interesting! This has been our experience from day 1, it's surprising yours is much faster. All being said we are satisfied with how fast it is 😁
We get really fast downloads, like 300Mbps. Uploads are pretty slow.

Elliot, I know you work in the tech industry in some way, so I figure you'd know as well as anyone else- would it be fast and stable enough for two coders to work full time on to include the daily Teams meeting?
*edit- And based on your experience, would you recommend Starlink over cellular internet it if you were just cruising between the Keys, along the AICW, across the Trent-Severn, and up around the 30,000 islands region of Georgian Bay (no farther north than Parry Sound)?
Great question! Yes, it is definitely fast and stable enough for that use case. It is robust and surprisingly good when conditions aren't perfect, like, for example, while cruising or with obstructions.
You should have pretty decent cell service on that route, so it depends on what you need to use it for. For us, if we only cruised those sections, we would still get Starlink. It's just too good to not have while not living on a boat. The cost is a business cost, so we eat it, but otherwise, there is a lot to say about a cheaper cell-based option. Cheers!
