  • Not sure how to use the wrist on a topspin tennis serve? Check the video above but first sign up for a free topspin CONSISTENCY course: www.feeltennis...
    Tennis players are often times confused about the role of the wrist when hitting a topspin serve.
    Does the wrist snap or not? And if not, is it then completely passive and all the work is being done with the forearm?
    Well, as it turns out the wrist does not snap nor it is passive.
    While it doesn't move in the flexion - extension plane (which would be "snapping"), it does move from abduction to adduction.
    While this sounds quite complicated it actually is not.
    You'll see when you check today's video where I'll explain first in theory how the wrist works and then I'll show you also in a slow motion using a video analysis app.

    By the way, for those of you looking for another app to replace the popular Coach's Eye, I recommend OnForm app for Apple users and CoachNow for Android users.
    I plan to make a more detailed review of both in the future so stay tuned...

    Fantastic slo-mo!!! Best visual example of a topspin serve ever! Thank you. Now, if only I’m able to replicate it on the court 😂😂😂

    Congratulations Tomaz. Your explanations make it easy to execute details that I couldn't distinguish well and, after watching your classes, everything is very clear. Thank you very much for the content provided.

      @@feeltennis I’m loving your channel. You really helped my backhand, and now I’m reworking my serve from scratch. You make it much easier to understand complex topics, as it’s easy to get bogged down into tiny details. It really helps me visualize what it should feel like, if that makes sense. For instance, the serve swing plane is going to the right of the target due to pronation. This really helped me a lot. Thank you!

    Very helpful! Tried it in a practice session today. Had more serves land in than usual. The speed according to my Babolat POP was about the same so the results tell me that this move imparts more spin onto the ball to get them in.

    Good explanation .
    Do not think about trying brushing the ball with arm or wrist . Just let the racket goes up , just like you feel you are chopping the ball with the flame of the racket . Dont worry about the flame , the wont hit the frame because your toss is not at 0 degree , your toss is probably at at least 20 degree angle , if you toss on top of your shoulder .
    I hope my statement make sense

    Exceptional video, with the slow-motion effects. Looks as if racket moves along the baseline, left-to-right, during the hit.

    This serve gives the most problems to ppl. To me, if i get the toss exactly right and my body is sideways, the serve is naturally going to occur. It's pretty easy. I don't even think about it. The toss should be at around 11:30 for a Kick serve and at 12 for a topspin serve. Both tosses should also be around 6 inches in front. If you don't have a consistent toss then forget about learning this serve. It will only lead to frustration. One way to keep sideways is the face the side fence until the ball is contacted. Once you get the toss and body position right, the ball will drop over the net then you can experiment with more or less pronation and turning the body a little if you want to direct the ball to a target.

      This idea of "naturally occur" really help me today. On the ad side I stand almost looking at side fence and toss ahead of my body (not inside the court) and the only way to serve is to pronate. Now I will try tossing into the court and adding hip rotation and a little leg drive (no jump) for more power and control. Thank you Wally, this was a great advice to complement Tomaz lesson 😃

    Tomaz, can you show the whole serve movement from the view on the last part of the video? That would be very helpful to see the whole movement thinking in 3D. We usually see the serve from behind - this left view clears a lot of questions on how to correctly perform the serve. Thanks!

    enjoyed the video but the ending the swing with pronation and racquet facing back looks like an american twist topspin versus ending thw swing with wrist flexion would be simple topspin?

    Hi Tomaz. Your big fan here in Hong Kong. Recently, I used a 340g racket to practice topsin serve and I execute it with the ulnar deviation. It seems that the racket is too heavy for such action as I got injury in the wrist area as a result. Do you have any comment in this regard? Thank you very much in advance🙏

    • @feeltennis
      @feeltennis  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yes, the racket is likely too heavy but you may also be forcing the move too much. Let the racket's weight dictate the path with its momentum while you more gently steer it into the move you want. Use feel! ;)

    At the time of contact ( 9.0’ to 9.10’) I have a problem seeing brushing up on the ball. So how is spin produced ? Am I missing something ? Thanks

    • @feeltennis
      @feeltennis  Před rokem +3

      The ball is in contact with the racket for about 0.004 seconds. Yes, 4 milliseconds! You won't see any brushing, the ball leaves the racket almost instantly. The spin happens in that split second through friction between strings and the ball.

  • @FairwayJack

    Whenever I do topspin serve, I cant make net clear..how can i fix this? I mean I can hear the spin sound well but the ball doesnt go over the net..very short :( guess this is too much spin only?

    • @feeltennis
      @feeltennis  Před rokem +2

      Yes, too much topspin, you need to open the racket face slightly too and try to hit the ball clean on the strings.
